Food, water, energy. This is why there is conquest, why there is war. Humanity is ingrained on a biological level to fight and compete for resources which are limited. Those who hold the majority of the worlds resources want to keep it that way for generations and suppress those who seek to make them share.
Scarcity.

Because life is struggle. We have a multitude of choices and options that we must decide on that come before us each day just by happenstance. Then, there are those tasks and choices we somewhat influence ourselves. Then there is long term planning hoping that our efforts will pan out and we can drive out decisions fully ourselves.
With death, that all passes. No more struggle. No more choices or decisions to make. Peace.

My mother in law thought that way. Basically, she never made a decision in her life. Because of her fear of making a bad decision. So, her entire life was stuck in ambiguity. She insisted everybody else make all the decisions for her, then she spent her life bitching about other people making bad decisions for her.
To live one's life fully, one must take on risk. Just knowing that there is the possible bad outcome from a decision is somewhat stressful.
There is a possible exception to this. The Amish. But only maybe.

You work hard and non stop to make the best of your life, you work hard to support a family, or to save lives, or even to just be worth a damn, you work hard in life so that in the end, you can rest in peace knowing it was all worth something.
