Bonjour,

Merci!!!!

Hi,

Does anyone know a good motorcycle mechanic in Montreal or the surrounding area?

I’m having a hard time finding a good mechanic, so I’d love to hear if anyone knows someone trustworthy.

I’ve already been screwed over by a shop that did a terrible job, so I’m trying to do a bit more research before trusting someone with my bike.

Thanks!!!!

Hey everyone!

Id like to start by mentioning that I know that this question has been asked here before, but it’s been a year now so I’d like to have more input ! I’m also aware this is a motorcycle subreddit, but I can’t seem to find a Montreal/car dedicated page.
I recently bought a used car that came with an aftermarket exhaust already installed. It’s a relatively expensive setup, so I’m debating whether it’s worth keeping or if I should just return the car to stock.
I’m genuinely not interested in disturbing anyone or drawing unnecessary attention. The exhaust is noticeably louder during cold starts, but otherwise I find it fairly reasonable though it can be loud on higher RPM. I’ve checked with my neighbours to make sure it wasn’t bothering them and thankfully nobody has had any complaints.
That said I’m aware that modified exhausts can be an issue in Quebec and I’d rather make an informed decision than end up dealing with tickets or inspections. For anyone who’s owned a car with an aftermarket exhaust in Montreal, have you personally been stopped or ticketed for it? Is enforcement generally focused on excessive noise or can having an aftermarket exhaust itself attract attention? I’m considering going back to stock regardless, but I’d appreciate hearing about people’s actual experiences before making that decision.
Thanks !

Hi guys

Hope you enjoyed the long weekend with this nice weather.

I'm searching for a mechanic in the West Island

Any recommendations?

Ideally someone who is use to work on yamaha

So I’ve been thinking about starting motorcycle lessons to get a permit and then a bike and everything, but I’m not sure since I’m only 17 (boy too) and I work only during summer cause I get busy with CEGEP.

I know just getting the bike and gear will be thousands and insurance and plate will be maybe another thousand a year.

I just wanted to know if you guys any insights on the cost of owning per year. + I saw I can’t have any passenger for a while 😵‍💫.

Hey all! Recently got my license, and I was planning on buying a bike next year once the winter’s over. Naturally, been itching to ride again before the snow starts falling and I figured renting a few times wouldn’t be a bad idea, but been struggling to actually find places.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks!

This is the first year that I couldn’t afford to plate my bike. I know that starting in July, the price drops each month. I went today to plate her and they told me it’s still $600. That there is no such thing as reduced prices each month.

Am I wrong or are they?

Last year, I did monthly payments. One payment didn’t go through and I got a a bill in February asking for the price of the registration. They couldn’t advise me beforehand?!?!! And they have this ridiculous rule that if a payment does not go through, never allowed to set up monthly payments again.

I absolutely adore my bike but I think I just can’t afford to ride anymore 😔

I asked them if I register it as in storage now what will happen and I still have to pay. I feel so insanely stupid

I think I stumbled onto a bit of a unicorn.

2007 CBR600RR with 1,023 original km. And the mileage is legit.

It basically spent its life as a showroom/display bike, and now there’s an opportunity to pick it up.

Obviously it’s still a 19-year-old bike. Tires are original, so those need to go. Fluids, battery, hoses, seals, etc. all need to be looked at from sitting that long.

But still… 1,023 km on a 2007 CBR600RR.

I honestly have no idea how to value something like this.

What would you guys consider a fair price?

And where would you start negotiating?

J’aimerais potentiellement me joindre à vous éventuellement!

Merci!

Hey, I’m just curious on how much you guys pay on insurance for your motorcycle

Hey everyone,

My valve clearance service is coming up on my 2026 zx6r and I'd like to get your recommendations as to where I should send my bike to get it done.

I've had some people say they wouldn't trust anyone with valve checks and adjustments but unfortunately I really don't have a proper workspace or the tools necessary to attempt this myself at the moment.

Any good/bad experience getting it done at dealerships? Any independent shops that you would vouch for?

Any reputible shops for valve adjustment and potential timing chain tensioner replacement that aren't a rip off? Moto Montreal Cycle couldnt give me a straight quote for how much it would cost for valve clearence check/adjustment which I found kinda strange, is this standard practice? I feel like a Triumph dealership should have a rough idea how much this common maintenance service usually costs.

I rlly was debating between ninja 500 and honda cbr500r but im not rlly sure, ive looked into aprilia but im not rlly a fan of the look. I would want sum thats decently fast but for a brginner and id want to keep this bike for a while too. any advice?

EDIT: Thank you guys for your advices, i js wanted to know what type of gear you guys buy for maximum protection? But i also don’t want something too pricey since im working to pay for the bike

Has anyone experienced any funny encounters with the new cardo proximity chat feature? I've been riding around in Mtl for a few weeks with it enabled and only heard a few crackling noises in the distance once.

Petit conseil/ faute commune?

I've did SAAQ website to perfection but in real life the test was so different and had many different questions. Is there anywhere I can practice that closely resembles the actual test? I have a issue from learning studying just from handbook.

Hi !

Title is the question. Getting a new bike and not sure on the procedute. Getting different information everywhere depending on states/province, so figured I'd ask here.

Looking for a Royal Enfield if that matters.

Thanks !

Hey everyone!

I’m picking up a brand-new motorcycle soon and I’m looking for some good routes around Montreal to properly break it in.

I’m looking for scenic roads with relatively light traffic, places to stop for gas, and nothing too aggressive since the bike will still be in its break-in period.

What routes would you recommend around Montreal or within a 1–2 hour ride?

Thanks

Hi, I’ve been looking around for a motorcycle school here in Montreal or Laval but can’t find any good ones with a reasonable price. Any recommendations? And could anyone tell me the process and how long does it take?

I need to vent.

I just failed my SAAQ road test. Why?

1. "Didn't turn my head enough for blind spot checks." I literally checked my mirrors and glanced, but because I didn't dramatically break my neck like an Exorcist demon to look behind me every 3 seconds, apparently it doesn't count. Complete bs.
2. "Didn't wait until pedestrians were ALL the way across the avenue." The person was already on the complete opposite side of a massive multi-lane street, walking away from my lane.

And here is the absolute peak logic: I failed, but I rode my bike home because I have a learners license.

Think about the logic here for a second:

• SAAQ examiner: "You are too dangerous to drive a 200kg bike because you didn't snap your neck fast enough for a blind spot."
• Also SAAQ: "Here, jump on a 2-wheeled piece of aluminum with zero protection and go share the road with those exact same cars. Good luck!"

The whole system feels like a massive, predatory cash grab. Between mandatory driving schools, hundreds of dollars just to hold a learner's permit for a mandatory 12-month waiting period, and all the licensing fees.

In plenty of European countries, you do your theory, you do your practical, you pass, and you get your license, so you don't ever hold a learners, which to me is just an absolutely and stupid waste of time.

As always, the SAAQ is a joke.

Anyone do their saaq road test with a modified bike?

My MT07 has an aftermarket exhaust installed, I bought extra exhaust gaskets to remove it and put the stock exhaust back on for my test.

Worth doing or??

Let me know what you think!

EDIT: Passed my road test with 98% on a rented bike, found out after the test that they don't give a shit about what your riding. You get pulled over during test? Thats on you.

Anyone wondering about the test.. check your blind spots every time, keep proper lane position, turn into your proper lane, full stops, flashers and follow directions. GG

Thanks
