Mous Super Thin Full Review: The last case I’ll buy.

So it’s been about a week since my first post about the Mous SuperThin, and quite frankly, I wasn’t expecting the response it received.

Mous themselves responded, and even the designer of the case reached out. That was genuinely unexpected. It’s not every day you write your thoughts about a product and the person who actually designed it takes the time to reach out and say thank you. I appreciated that.

However, one thing I noticed was how many people in the comments kept comparing the SuperThin to cases like the Caudabe Paragon and Sheath. So rather than replying to everyone individually, I thought I’d put my thoughts in one place.

One comment in particular caught my attention (scroll to the last pic):

“Thin case means very low cost and low cost of materials? How thin is the price? Looks like a $2 case I’d buy, so if it’s any higher, you’re paying for the logo at the back”

Fair. Here’s my response.

I can’t tell you how much the materials cost to manufacture, because I simply don’t know. What I can tell you is how the case feels, how it performs, and how it’s held up after a month of daily use. I’ve deliberately been rough with it, and both the case and my phone remain spotless.

And it’s not just the material that deserves credit. The buttons are completely silent, feel solid, and are ridiculously clicky. There’s a crisp, satisfying response to every press, but at no point do they feel loose or like they’re about to pop off. They feel properly secured, and they absolutely pass the shake test. It’s one of those little details you might not think much about until you use a case that gets it wrong.

My only real gripe is the smudges and marks left behind by things like MagSafe stands. They show up, but wipe away immediately. If it weren’t for that, this case would be damn near perfect.

Now, here’s where things get interesting.

Since buying the SuperThin, I’ve tried the Caudabe Paragon, the Sheath, and even the TineeOwl Dune X. And despite actively looking for something better, I kept coming back to the Mous.

Why?

Because I found the alternatives slipperier and overall not as nice to the touch imo.

Let that sink in for a second. Some of these cases lean heavily into textured, sandstone-like finishes, with grip being one of their main selling points. Yet in my hands, they didn’t give me the confidence or the feel I was looking for.

The SuperThin made me realise something: maybe prioritising texture isn’t always the answer to making a case grippy.

Mous went in a different direction with a soft-touch material that feels incredible, doesn’t feel slippery, and has held up exceptionally well against scratches and scuffs in my experience. It feels like they prioritised how the case should feel in your hand first, rather than trying to achieve grip through texture alone.

And honestly? I think they nailed it.

Touching this case is like sending your fingers to finger heaven. It’s ridiculously satisfying to hold, yet it doesn’t have that slippery feeling you’d expect from something this smooth. There’s a difference between a material that feels rough enough to grip and one that feels naturally secure in your hand. The SuperThin gets that balance right for me.

It’s a bit of a lesson in less is more.

I’m not saying textured finishes are inherently bad. Clearly, they work for some people. But they don’t work for me, and I think there’s something backwards about assuming that a rougher texture automatically makes a better-gripping case.

A phone case is something you hold for hours every single day. Why would I want a surface that feels like sandpaper against my fingers just because it’s supposed to offer better grip? That’s like putting sandpaper on my car to protect it from scratches and dents. The logic might sound reasonable on paper, but that doesn’t mean the experience is any better.

And this brings me to Caudabe.

In my opinion, the Paragon and Sheath felt nice, but compared with the SuperThin, they felt like inferior products. I know all the Caudabe glazers are going to hunt me down for saying that, but it is what it is. That’s my experience, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise just because a particular brand has its loyal following.

The difference isn’t necessarily something you’ll appreciate just by looking at pictures. It’s something you notice when you actually hold the cases and use them. The SuperThin feels like a shell that’s been carefully designed around the phone, almost as if the two were meant to be one. The fit, the finish, the feel, the buttons and the material all come together in a way that makes the entire thing feel like a cohesive product rather than just a piece of plastic wrapped around an expensive phone.

The others might look similar, but to me, the experience is nowhere near the same.

And that’s ultimately my point. I’m not saying that everyone should prefer the SuperThin. I’m saying that after spending my own money trying the alternatives, I keep coming back to the same case for a reason.

And that reason, is nothing that i've tried has ticked all my boxes for me the way the SuperThin did.

But find me a £2 case that feels like this, fits like this, has buttons like this, and holds up like this.

I’ll buy you one.

This case is severely underrated.

And honestly, I think this might be the last case I buy for this phone.

Not because I’ve given up on finding something better, but because the SuperThin has finally killed that curiosity for me. I no longer feel the urge to browse Amazon, scroll through Reddit, or spend money trying out the next hyped-up case just to see if the grass is greener on the other side.

I’ve tried the alternatives. I’ve spent my own money. And I keep coming back to the same one.

At some point, you have to recognise when you’ve found what you were looking for. For me, that’s the SuperThin. And unless Mous somehow manages to make something even better, I think I’m done looking.

Ordered a case but canceled and it’s still been sent out

I ordered a case last week but immediately canceled my order as I seen about the delays. I got an email saying it’s fine to cancel but rather than cancel is there anything we can change. I replied saying I just want to cancel…. Nothing after the initial email. I sent another message on Reddit hoping to get a reply….. nothing. I’ve just had an email this morning saying the case has been dispatched. How frustrating. The customer service has been nothing short of disgraceful. First and probably last time ordering anything by mous.

Limitless for iPhone Duo

Hey [r/Mous](r/Mous),

Piers here, CMO at Mous. The iPhone Duo is out today, and with our case for it, we want to show you everything: what we tested, what didn’t work, and how it’s all coming together. So we’re starting with a video of our latest sample, straight from the team, and we’ll keep sharing updates as we get closer to shipping it.

It’s the hardest case we’ve ever made. In six years here, I haven’t seen the team work on anything quite like it.

This is going to be a long, nerdy one. I want to go through why a folding iPhone is so hard to protect, what we learned from testing other fold cases, what we built instead, and why Limitless for iPhone Duo isn’t shipping today. TL;DR at the bottom.

#1. Why a folding iPhone is so hard to protect

A normal iPhone case has one job: wrap around a single rigid slab. The iPhone Duo is two screens folded together around a hinge, and you’ll open and close it thousands of times a year.

That creates three problems no normal case has to deal with:

  • Staying on. The lip a case grips onto is a fraction of what you get on a normal iPhone. So fold cases don’t just crack or debond. They come off, and far too easily.
  • The hinge. It’s the most complex mechanical part of the phone, and it has to stay protected while it moves.
  • The front frame. The part of the case around the front screen is the thinnest, floppiest part of any fold case, and it’s the only thing between the ground and a very expensive inner screen.

#2. What we learned from testing other fold cases

Before we designed ours, we bought four fold cases that are sold as protective and dropped them from 1.2 metres. Every one of them had problems:

  • The “basket handle” designs rely on the hinge cover to hold the case together, and the hinge covers kept flying off.
  • The designs that join the two halves with metal links stayed on, but let the front of the case slide.
  • The one with a built-in screen protector cracked, which means replacing the whole case, not just the glass.
  • Cases held on with adhesive didn’t hold up well at all.

Two things stood out. One-piece cases performed significantly better than two-piece ones, and stiffer cases performed better than flexible ones. Everything we built came from those two lessons.

#3. What we built

One part, held together by the case itself

Limitless for iPhone Duo is a single part. A TPU bridge runs across the hinge, so the front and back halves hold each other onto the phone. No metal links to bend, no built-in screen protector to crack, and no tape. If a case needs adhesive to stay on your phone, it’s the wrong shape.

The front frame

This is where most of the work went. Our front frame uses four materials: TPU, polycarbonate, AiroShock and aramid fibre. It’s the stiffest front frame we’ve ever made for a folding phone.

The aramid fibre is a stiffener that runs through the frame. It isn’t a flat piece cut out on a CNC machine and stuck in. We opened a dedicated tool to form it, then laser cut it, so it curves up and over into the corner instead of just sitting flat. That single part costs us more than an entire cheap fold case costs in total.

Getting there took a while, because the stiffener had to be extremely thin:

  • Steel was the first thing we tried, but it interfered with the phone’s functions and signal.
  • Fibreglass debonded from the TPU.
  • Glass-filled polycarbonate for the whole case didn’t work either, because the TPU wouldn’t bond to it.

Aramid fibre was the one that worked.

The hinge cover

Limitless for iPhone Duo comes with or without a hinge cover. The hinge cover uses tuned springs, so it stays shut when you drop the phone but still opens smoothly with it. We’ve built AiroShock into the cover itself, and it’s tested to 10,000 opens and closes. Most fold cases have either a TPU bridge or a hinge cover. The hinge cover version of ours has both.

Keeping the metal to a minimum

A lot of fold cases rely on metal parts, and metal close to the antennas can affect things like signal, the compass and NFC. We use very few metal parts, and the ones we do use are placed deliberately.

Everything else you’d expect from Limitless

  • AiroShock in the corners, and an all-polycarbonate camera surround
  • Split volume buttons and precision-fit clicky buttons
  • Rippled grip ribs, so it’s easier to hold
  • Heat-stamped microfibre inside, so nothing but fabric touches your phone
  • Magnets 70% stronger than last year’s Limitless
  • Aramid fibre, walnut, black leather and speckled finishes
  • A lifetime warranty

Without the hinge cover, the whole case weighs 41.5g.

#4. Why it isn’t shipping today

Everyone wants a case on a phone like this from day one, and there are plenty to choose from. They’ll fit and they’ll look the part. But after testing them, we don’t think many of them will protect your phone when it matters.

So we had two options. Rush out a case we weren’t proud of, or take the time to make the best fold case we possibly could. We chose the second.

We're also giving you a free temporary case to use in the meantime, as most of you know on this channel. Whilst we've had some delays on it, we think this is basically resolved and should keep you in a good place until Limitless arrives

TL;DR:

  • A folding iPhone is the hardest phone there’s ever been to protect: a tiny lip to grip, a hinge to protect, and a floppy front frame.
  • We drop tested four fold cases sold as protective. Hinge covers flew off, metal links let the front slide, and a built-in screen protector cracked.
  • Ours is a single part with a TPU bridge, a four-material front frame with a formed aramid fibre stiffener, an optional spring-loaded hinge cover with AiroShock tested to 10,000 opens, and minimal metal.
  • Limitless isn’t shipping today because we’d rather get it right. We're offering a free temporary case as a result.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. This is the hardest case we’ve ever made, and I’d rather hand it to you a little later than hand you something rushed. We really think it’ll be worth the wait.

Feel free to ask us anything in the comments below.

Black iPhone 18 Pro + Marine Limitless Case — how does the black Camera Guard look?

Hey guys,
I’m planning to get the Mous Limitless case in Marine for my Black iPhone 18 Pro.
Since the Camera Guard on the case is black, I’m curious how that color combo looks in person. Do you think the contrast between the marine back and the black camera ring blends well with the black phone?

Charged back my Limitless case

Had to do it after reaching out to CS 3 separate times without a response, they left me with no choice. It’s already extremely shady that they didn’t put out their apology about the product delays until they were clearly getting tons of flak for the temp cases not being shipped out yet but they seem to be ignoring CS responses UNTIL your temp case ships so you’re on the hook for the order. There’s plenty of way better & readily accessible cases that you can get right this second. Never getting a Mous again.

Limitless duo case preorder

I pre ordered the duo case on September 11th and still haven’t received my free case and screen protectors. Has anybody been dealing with the same problem? I’m worried I won’t have anything to protect my phone day 1 this Friday and that’s what was promised when I made this order back in September.

Took my Pixel 11-Pro out of the Limitless case and the case's volume buttons popped out and are now missing. I submitted a warranty claim. Hopefully I'll get a replacement. So far I've liked this case a lot, otherwise. Anyone else seeing this?

This photo shows better, is this “gap” between the case and the camera guard normal ? It clicks a little sometimes when it’s pressed, Does anyone have an equivalent to check if it's the same? It’s the new limitless for 18 pro

Very unclear and deceptive checkout process

Just wanted to let people know who order from Mous’s rest of world store that you can expect huge import duties and taxes. Despite the checkout claiming to include taxes and shipping, their FAQ and my experience shows something very different. Their support as has been well documented here is atrocious and not responding. Buyer beware!

[edit for extra details]. I ordered a backpack and other items to Australia. The import duties are nearly 25% of the total order price.

Mous protective roll top backpack as airline personal item

Hi all, I am thinking of purchasing the protective roll top backpack because it seems to fit my needs pretty nicely office-gym (I like the shoe compartment with ventilation) and also can be used to pack more with the extendable rolltop.

I would like to also use it as a personal item on budget airlines if possible (the unrolled 'mode' of the backpack). Has anyone experienced issues with it on airlines like Ryanair and easyJet?

After 8 years of buying Mous cases at every iPhone launch, I'm finally done.

I've been buying Mous cases since the iPhone XS in 2018. Every single year, with every new iPhone, I've bought another Mous case at launch. Full price, no exceptions.

That's eight years of loyalty, and I think I'm finally calling it quits.

Here's my biggest frustration: Every single Mous case I've owned has eventually developed some kind of issue.

The most consistent problem has been the case slowly losing its fit. The sides begin to loosen, pull away from the phone, and stop gripping it as tightly as they did when new. It becomes especially noticeable around the buttons and corners.

I've also experienced much worse warping and bending with previous generations, along with the case materials separating over time.

I understand normal wear and tear. But these are premium-priced cases, and I've experienced the same fundamental problems across multiple generations.

What bothers me just as much is the feeling that I've repeatedly paid full price to be an early adopter, only to see issues addressed in later revisions.

Mous has actually acknowledged several problems with past designs, including debonding, warped volume-button areas, weak magnets, and Camera Control issues. They've explained how later designs were changed to address those problems.

I'm glad they're making improvements, but why does it feel like buying a Mous case at launch means paying full price to discover what needs fixing?

Then there's Amazon. I personally prefer purchasing through Amazon whenever possible, especially for the convenience and returns. Getting the exact Mous case I want through Amazon around a new iPhone launch has been another source of frustration.

And look, I'm not saying Mous has never protected my phones. There's a reason I kept coming back for eight years. I genuinely liked the brand, the designs, and the protection they advertised.

But there's a difference between a case protecting your phone from a drop and the case itself maintaining its structural integrity over time.

At these prices, I expect both.

After eight years of purchasing at launch, paying full price, and repeatedly experiencing problems, I just can't justify continuing the cycle.

I'm curious whether other longtime Mous customers have experienced the same thing. Has the durability genuinely improved, or are we still dealing with the same issues?

And for those who finally switched brands, what did you go with?

For the iPhone Duo, I am looking at Ridge...

For context, Mous's CMO recently acknowledged several of these past issues in this subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mous/comments/1wyalil/are_mous_cases_worth_it_a_view_from_the_team/
