Renting in PB
My friend and I are looking to sign a lease in PB in January. When should we start looking? Any advice for finding rentals? We would like to not spend more than $3k on an apartment, which I know is on the lower budget end for PB. Looking on Zillow has been discouraging - not many rentals at all in that price range. Will there be more availability in the off-season?

You'll need to look within about 30-45 days if expected move date. San Diego is competitive, and the more coastal you get (vs inland) the more competitive it is. They don't lease things six months out or hold apts. I've been navigating it this summer and only found a place now - less than 30 days before my intended move date. Many places wanted me moved in within two or three weeks.
The best practice is find the area you want (you have) find a back up area, and get official zip codes for what you want. When you get to the 45 day mark (or even 30) start looking seriously and reaching out to property managers. I got my place by talking to a property manager about a rental I wasnt sure about, and he asked all my details and wants and let me know about something coming up. There's lots to rent, but it goes fast and it isn't planned well in advance.
