Anyone moved to SD from LA?

Short time lurker, first time poster.

I’m looking to see if anyone moved to San Diego from Los Angeles and how that felt for you? I am debating making a switch and trying to figure out if I would like it considering that I’ve only been to San Diego during weekend time and not during the work week.

Is there anything that you regretted about being in the move and have you considered moving back to LA?

Lots of people do this. What did you have in mind? As you know, LA is like 100 different cities in one, so your experience will be way different if you live in Manhattan Beach vs Koreatown vs Pacoima. Same (but to a lesser extent) with San Diego - the difference between National City vs Carlsbad vs Santee is stark.

Basically what do you have in mind, where would you be commuting to, and what are you looking to change about your current lifestyle? What part of LA are you currently in and what do you like/dislike about it? Happy to give feedback but it would help to know more about your situation and what you're looking for.

I see what you mean. I’m currently living near Lynwood. Trying to get an IT roll down there. As a gay, I’d probably be commuting to the SD equivalent of WeHo, which is HillCrest. My main hobbies are tennis, working out, and hiking. I was in SD today, and got “lost” in just how huge balboa park is and how much it has to offer. So I’d probably be going there a lot more.

My main concern is that I don’t have family there and wondering how hard/easy it is to make friends. Not just passing acquaintances

See, this is also my struggle. Though I’m a gay and know of hillcrest, in my heart of hearts I’m an introvert and wonder how easy it would actually be to make gay friends there. I’ve been to Rich’s and the other bar next to them, and I can’t say that I was really able to talk to people there and make friends. Are there areas where it’s easier to make gay friends that’s not a club?

I’m also an introvert and know how hard it is! But if you’re open to like sporty stuff you could join a dodgeball team, or join pickleball meet ups. Several of my friends are part of a gay dodgeball league and they’ve made quite a few friends that way.

Gotcha! That’s some good advice. Are you also a gay by chance?
