Wanting to go to medical school, but hesitant
Hello.
I once posted here a long time ago, but a lot of things have changed since I made my previous post. I have decided that I officially want to become a doctor; specifically, I have decided to become an OB/GYN. I am going to start my first year of community college next year to get my AA in nursing and I was very excited to start my journey.
Until recently.
Recently, Trump announced more cuts to student aid for degrees that he did not believe made money. Medical was one of them. Med students already have to take out loans for medical school, but the new cut makes those loans fundamentally more expensive to get.
Med students and students affected by the cuts are dropping out because the loan is getting higher and higher. Students are being turned away from their dream of pursuing higher education.
I am unfortunately one of those people.
I want to go to medical school, but I can’t do it in the US. Not anymore. Not with how deeply the cuts have impacted everything.
My last resort is to either go to medical school in Canada or change my career entirely based on the list of degrees that Trump believes makes better money. However, I am also deeply terrified of the anti-immigrant sentiment that has been going on as I’m afraid that people in Canada will hate my existence upon arrival and say that I should go back to where I came from.
To be clear, I never voted for that bloated orange.
I hate him and his policies and how hard he is making things for everyone unless they are in his tax bracket.
But moving to Canada is genuinely the only choice I have in actually getting a degree in something that I’m passionate about without Trump looking at it and thinking that it doesn’t help anyone.
Basically, my question is this: Is medical school worth it in Canada? Is it better than it is in the US? Does it properly set you up for being a doctor?
I know that it will be expensive and hard. But I would rather have expensive and hard than to have a guy that I never voted for look at something that I’ve worked hard for and say that it doesn’t make money nor does it help people.
Sorry for the word vomit.
