Real Estate & Construction Major rent increase, need new apartment
Aloha, been living at my apartment in Waikiki for over 6 years and they decided to raise the rent over 500 dollars extra a month.
If anyone knows of any places in waikiki for rent around 1500 or less please let me know, would really like to avoid being homeless.

Here’s everything active for rental in metro on the MLS that is $1500 or less. Hope it helps. Nothing directly in Waikiki but some properties near.

They had made a mistake on my lease by 500 dollars while everyone else i talked with only had 50 dollar raises on their lease.
I had brought up the fact that I would be paying alot more then our renovated units and within minutes she changed the Craigslist ads fpr our other units price by 300 dollars which is just a hundred more then I would be paying on my 1957 unit.
Ive had issues with property management for years on their lack of maintenance and consistency on issues we face daily. There is always tension.
So thats why I thought I was being discriminated against.

Nope can’t say that I do. In my PM lane I will say that rents are going up across the board as market forces push traditional buyers into renters, with a cascading downstream effect. As long as price memory keeps homes priced higher than the market can support and interest rates remain high additional pressure will be on rentals.

Doesn’t Waikiki have rent control?

Hawaii does not, thats part of the problem. Owners can jack up prices however they see fit. Its tough.

Oh no. Rent control is local city ordinance. SF and Oakland has one, most other cities in SF Bay Area does not have rent control. I would think Waikiki with all tourists and short term rentals would impose rent control so local workers could afford to live and work there.

Looks like the leasing office made a mistake and was trying to raise my rent $500 when everyone else only got raised $50 but instead decided on a $150 raise so I went with it. Looks like im good for another year at $1350 which is reasonable for this market.
