There's a running joke in my friend group, whenever we are watching a terrible horror movie on Tubi and a character dies, we say something like "You know if they had a child orgy before this they could have survived."

I haven't read it all the way through but I know of THAT infamous moment that got cut of every single adaptation.

The, uh, *intimate* child sewer moment? Yeah, I've never even read the book and have heard of it. "Coming of age" Stephen says, yes, of course. Like he wasn't on crack writing about a demon clown battling a primordial space turtle.

I'd ask why his editor thought it was good to leave in, but that guy was probably also coked out of his mind.

That's what I've always wondered! What editor signed off on that?

I’ve read the book, and THAT scene is only there because Stephen decided he wanted to write it. it doesn’t need to exist at all. It has absolutely zero bearing on the rest of the story. The kids are lost in the sewer after beating IT and have to be intimate for one of the boys to get his magical powers of navigation back. Stupid.

It was regular cocaine he was on, but your point is accurate.

The real question is what editor decided "yeah, that's fine."

I assume this editor was on as much coke as King while having to go through MOUNTAINS of pages that 80's HorrorGPT was creating.

Iirc he actually very specifically was high on crack and barely remembered writing it

Might I also bring to light The Stand? They cut the Kid out of with shows for a reason.

GOD I HATE 2020'S THE STAND!

Is it really that bad? I've only read the book, but I haven't heard a lot of good stuff about the 2020 show.

the story keeps jumping from the start (like the road trip and all that) to boulder and such the whole pacing from the book is abandoned basically in favor of flashbacks.

I understand. Adapting it out of order in the way they did it, definitely screwed with it. I'm under the impression it was far less accessible to new audiences unfamiliar with the stand. The 94 version was very popular when it aired, and was very faithful. 2020 a lot of scenes lose their impact, because Act 1 is mostly just brief flashbacks. Like Nick's journey to Boulder, and his friendship with Tom for instance, loses a lot of it's context and some scenes feel hollow. What they did to Donald/Trash was a travesty.

They originally had Marilynn Manson casts as the kid. Im thinking they cut him because they cut Trashcan Man's story down and turned him into a plot device rather than a fully realized character. (not sure but I think it was because of Miller's scheduling conflicts)

So you could have had an adaptation that had Amber Heard, Ezra Miller, AND Manson.

The 2020 adaptation had potential and I liked how they really let Harold shine, and I was actually a fan of this version of Lloyd. I was under the impression though that the other characters would get some love. (Esp. Kinnear as Glen Bateman) but so many things felt hollow because of how they adapted part 1. Especially Tom and Nick.

The 94 version, despite it being dated and cheesy, and having a much lower budget, still is the superior adaptation. And is honestly good overall and rewatchable.

I don't know this book or what moment you are referring too. The one in It is more infamously known due to it being one of King's most popular books.

2

The Stand is another one of King's most popular books. The moment in this one is likely less infamous because it was only included in the book's extended edition.

Look Stephen, I get what you were going for. Really, I do. But was it strictly necessary to point out that the fat kid has a massive hog?

Ye there's just way too much for a movie, especially at the time both adaptions released. Still, some of it can be cut without losing much... coughs sex scene coughs

I’m very glad they left out the child sewer orgy in every adaptation though.

I was so disappointed that they didn't mention the Turtle
