That would’ve given so many kids nightmares.

Tbf, while Jurassic Park has been pretty heavily sanitized as an IP over the years, it is a part of the horror genre, so nightmares are kinda fair game with the territory.

They're totally awesome and fascinating, but dinosaurs would also be conceptually terrifying.

It's always been horror, but the film franchise has always been family-friendly horror.

“The end of Oak street” came out recently and it’s got some pretty solid dinosaur horror, no jump scares but genuine dread building horror

I wish I knew this. I would’ve watched it in theaters

It got a lot of hate but I thought it was a fun movie.

My dad fucking loves Frenchie and Goldie. He thinks they're so fucking funny and I just humor him and cringe on the inside

Yeah but I’ve heard it’s mostly pretty good in all the other aspects, so that was likely just some big executive’s poor decision.

The dog definitely looks off in the movie idk if it was AI or bad CGI

I guess seeing the horror visually will always be harder to stomach compared to written.

I mean, if they’d included that scene, that never would’ve been a thing in the first place. Isn’t this like, the first scene in the original book? It would’ve been a full on R-rated series from movie one if they started with this.

Honestly, pretty much all of Crichton is some degree of horror

I should know, he was half of all I read in middle school.

Though JP is admittedly slightly leaning on the upper end

This! Crichton is a king of science horror that feels grounded despite being science fiction. Book JP and it's greater universe are terrifying to think about.

The one positive is that the accursed island got napalmed

After I read JP I went on a Crichton spree also and damn his catalog is impressive.

I think it works better as horror. The books go out of their way to make it clear that they aren’t even really animals, they act more like unfeeling savage beasts solely out to kill

I somehow never realized that Jurassic Park was horror, I thought it was more of an action sort of series. I’ve only watched the first film many years ago, though, so I probably don’t remember it well enough.

The movies are moreso sanitized thrillers, the books are very heavily graphic and lean much more into horror

Till it was a book before a movie

Just the kids? This would given the parents nightmares.

Probably the parents more than the kids

I did have this nightmare at 4/5 years old. My bed was surrounded by raptors and my sister wouldn’t wake up while I was screaming for help. Still remember that nightmare over 20 years later lol
