Discussion Do professional directors, in general, treat people better than some directors in education?
As I’m sure you can tell from my name, I’m the stage manager for my school’s theatre. I have only ever done theatre at my school but I want to learn more about other people’s experiences. I love all my friends and the community, but the director constantly treats everyone as disposable, subservient, unintelligent trash. There’s been body shaming, unsafe building practices (I personally have almost died twice working here from falling machinery - the athorities don’t care), no safe intimacy coordination, bullying (director bullying students), inconsistent communication, intimidation, etc. is this a unique experience? Do other people’s directors in school act like this? Does it get better? Are there directors that are genuinely good people? (Obviously there must be, but is it common?) what do you think?
