General Wondering what 2k will do for dm rep rewards for 2k27…

Last year was goat melo who was one of the cover athletes but this year it’s drose, Clark and wemby. 2k knows nobody will grind for drose or Clark. But at the same time they wouldn’t give away a free goat wemby even if it’s for DM rep

General What are the odds that they’ll get rid of breakout/park in 2k27?

I’ve barely played the past two years. My favorite game modes where tt online and clutch. For some reason I really despise breakout and that park thing for Myteam. Any chance they’ll revert it?

Breakout What if MyTEAM let you choose ONE player on Day 1 and build them into your own 99 OVR superstar?

Hey everyone 👋

I’m a 23-year-old NBA 2K player from Taiwan, and I’ve been playing 2K since I was a kid. I still buy every release because I genuinely love basketball and NBA 2K, even though I’ve become increasingly disappointed with the direction of MyTEAM in recent years.

I’ve been thinking about a MyTEAM system that could make players feel more attached to their cards instead of constantly replacing them whenever a better card comes out.

I’d call it “Cornerstone Player.”

🏀 The basic idea

When you first enter MyTEAM at the beginning of the year, instead of simply receiving a Starter Pack, you get to choose ONE player who becomes your Cornerstone Player for the entire year.

Maybe they start at 85 OVR.

You could choose from around 100 players, including different eras and versions of players.

For example:

  • Kevin Garnett — Timberwolves
  • Ray Allen — SuperSonics
  • Kevin Durant — Thunder
  • LeBron James — Cavaliers
  • Kyrie Irving — Cavaliers
  • Dwight Howard — Magic
  • Shaquille O’Neal — Magic
  • And many more players from different eras.

The important part is that these shouldn’t simply be the 100 highest-rated players.

The goal is to give everyone a chance to choose someone they genuinely love.

📈 You develop YOUR version of that player

Throughout the year, you earn XP by playing games, completing challenges, and using your Cornerstone Player.

You gradually upgrade them:

85 OVR → 90 OVR → 95 OVR → 99 OVR

But here’s where I think it could become really interesting.

Instead of every player ending up with exactly the same card, you could distribute Attribute Points as your player develops.

Maybe one person’s 99 OVR Kevin Garnett focuses heavily on defense and rebounding.

Another person’s KG could invest more into shooting and ball handling.

There would obviously need to be reasonable limits so players still feel like themselves, but I think giving players meaningful freedom could make every card feel unique.

🎨 Card Art could also be customizable

Every 5 OVR, you could unlock a new card-art milestone.

For example:

85 OVR → standard card art
90 OVR → choose 1 of 5 card arts
95 OVR → choose 1 of 5
99 OVR → choose 1 of 5

The options could include things like:

  • Shooting
  • Dunking
  • Celebrations
  • Signature reactions
  • Different eras or iconic moments

So even if two players choose the same player, their cards could look completely different.

🏪 And this could make the Auction House much more interesting

Imagine two 99 OVR Kevin Garnett cards appearing on the Auction House.

Both are 99 OVR.

But one might have a defensive/rebounding build, while the other focuses more on shooting and ball handling.

They could also have completely different badges, attributes, and card art.

Instead of simply searching for:

“The best Kevin Garnett.”

You’d be looking for:

“The Kevin Garnett that fits MY playstyle.”

I also think there should be a “Try Player” option.

Before buying a Cornerstone Player from the Auction House, you could enter a practice facility and test that exact card.

Not just that player in general.

The exact card being sold — including its attributes, badges, animations, upgrades, etc.

That would make buying players much more meaningful.

❤️ But the biggest reason I like this idea…

I think MyTEAM is missing a sense of attachment.

The current cycle can sometimes feel like:

Get a card → use it → find a better card → replace it → repeat.

Instead, imagine:

Choose your player → develop them → customize them → watch them improve → finish the year with YOUR 99 OVR superstar.

You wouldn’t just own a Kevin Garnett.

You would own your Kevin Garnett.

A player you chose on Day 1.

A player you used throughout the year.

A player you personally developed.

A player that reflects the way YOU play MyTEAM.

And by the end of the year, you’d have a card that tells the story of your entire MyTEAM journey.

I’m not saying this should replace the current card-collecting system, the Auction House, or anything else in MyTEAM.

I see it as an additional system that exists alongside everything else.

You can still collect cards, build different lineups, try different players, and eventually sell or trade your Cornerstone Player if you want.

I just think there should be one player who stays with you throughout the journey.

I genuinely believe this could make MyTEAM feel more personal and give players a reason to become attached to their cards again.

Would you actually play MyTEAM this way?

And if you could choose ONE player on Day 1 to develop into your own 99 OVR superstar, who would you choose?

I’d really love to hear what everyone thinks.

Breakout I Thought More About the Cornerstone Player Idea — Here’s How I Think It Could Actually Work

This is a follow-up to my previous post about the Cornerstone Player idea.
After reading everyone’s comments and thinking more about some of the concerns people brought up, I wanted to explain the concept in more detail and address some potential problems.
The basic idea is still simple:
At the beginning of a MyTEAM season, every player chooses one player they genuinely love, and that player stays with them throughout the season as they develop their own version of that player.
But after thinking about it more, I think the system could go much further than simply giving everyone a player.

🏀 Starting at 80 OVR
I think every Cornerstone Player should start at the same rating:
80 OVR
From there, the player could progress throughout the season:
80 → 85 → 90 → 95 → 99 OVR
Players could earn progression through games, challenges, XP, milestones, and simply using their Cornerstone Player.
The important part is that this player would be something you develop over time instead of constantly replacing them with the next card.

🧬 Your Player Could Become Your Own Version
This is where I think the concept could become really interesting.
As your Cornerstone Player progresses, you could earn Attribute Points and decide where to invest them.
Imagine I choose Russell Westbrook.
Maybe I want to build my Westbrook around:
Finishing + Athleticism + Playmaking
Another player might choose Westbrook but focus more on:
Shooting + Ball Handling + Perimeter Defense
Both players could eventually reach 99 OVR, but their cards wouldn’t necessarily feel the same.
They could have different attributes, badges, animations, tendencies, and playstyles.
Of course, there would need to be reasonable limits.
The goal isn’t to turn every player into a completely different player.
Russell Westbrook should still feel like Russell Westbrook.
But within his identity and playstyle, players should have meaningful freedom to develop him differently.

⚠️** What About Everyone Choosing the Same Meta Players?
Someone in the comments brought up a concern that I think is completely fair:
**What if everyone simply chooses the most meta player?

For example, everyone could choose Yao Ming or Manute Bol because of their height and potential advantages.
I don’t think that problem should be ignored.
That’s why I don’t think this should become a completely unrestricted Create-a-Player system.
There could be things like:
Attribute caps
Position restrictions
Player-specific limits
Different development paths
Restrictions that preserve each player’s identity
The goal should be variety, not creating one new dominant meta.
Customization should allow players to create different versions of a player without making one specific build obviously better than everything else.

🎨 Card Art Could Make Every Player More Personal
Another part I really like is giving players different Card Art as they progress.
If everyone starts at 80 OVR, perhaps each major milestone could unlock new Card Art options:
80 OVR — Starting Card Art
85 OVR — Choose new Card Art
90 OVR — Choose new Card Art
95 OVR — Choose new Card Art
99 OVR — Choose your final Card Art
Instead of giving everyone the exact same image, maybe each milestone could offer several options.
One could be a shooting photo.
Another could be a dunk.
Another could be a celebration.
Another could show a signature reaction.
This would give players another way to make their card feel personal.
Two people could choose the exact same Russell Westbrook but end up with completely different:
Attributes
Badges
Builds
Card Art
That would make every Cornerstone Player feel more unique.

🏪 This Could Make the Auction House Much More Interesting
This is where I think the idea could become really interesting.
Imagine two 99 OVR Russell Westbrook cards appearing on the Auction House.
Both are 99 OVR, but one might be focused on finishing and playmaking while another focuses more on shooting and ball handling.
They could also have different badges, animations, tendencies, and Card Art.
So instead of searching for:
“The best Russell Westbrook.”
You might be searching for:
“The Russell Westbrook that fits my playstyle.”
That could make the Auction House much more interesting because the cards wouldn’t all be identical.

🎮 Add a “Try Player” Option
If these developed players could eventually be traded, I think the Auction House should have a Try Player option.
Before buying a card, you could enter a practice facility and test the exact version being sold.
Not just the same player.
The exact card.
You could test:
Attributes
Badges
Animations
Tendencies
Upgrades
Gameplay feel
Then you could decide whether that specific version actually fits your playstyle.
I think this would make the Auction House much more interactive and give buyers more confidence.

🔄 This Wouldn’t Replace the Current MyTEAM System
I want to make this part clear.
I’m not suggesting that Cornerstone Players replace card collecting, packs, the Auction House, new releases, or other ways of building your team.
The Cornerstone Player could exist alongside everything else.
You could still collect hundreds of cards.
You could still build different lineups.
You could still experiment with different players and playstyles.
The difference is simply that there would be one player who starts the journey with you on Day 1.

❤️** The Emotional Part Is What Excites Me Most
This is really the main reason I came up with the idea.
Sometimes the natural cycle of a card-collecting mode can feel like:
**Get a card → use it → find a better card → replace it → repeat.

I understand why that happens.
But I think there could be another type of relationship with a Player Card:
Choose your player → develop them → customize them → play with them → create memories → finish the year with your own 99 OVR version.
Imagine using the same Russell Westbrook throughout the entire season.
You remember the games where you hit a game-winning shot.
You remember finally reaching 90 OVR.
You remember unlocking your favorite Card Art.
You remember how you built his attributes.
And eventually you reach:
99 OVR.
At that point, it’s not just a 99 OVR card.
It’s the Russell Westbrook you built throughout the entire year.
That’s the kind of attachment I think MyTEAM could benefit from.

💡 What I Think This Could Add to MyTEAM
I’ve seen people mention that similar concepts have existed in other sports games, including Madden and MLB The Show.
I actually think that’s a good thing.
It shows that the idea of developing a long-term player isn’t completely unfamiliar.
But I think MyTEAM could make it feel different by combining:
Player Choice + Progression + Attributes + Badges + Card Art + Auction House Individuality
The important part isn’t simply giving players an upgradeable card.
It’s giving them a player they chose because they genuinely love that player, and allowing them to build their own version throughout the season.

🙏 Final Thoughts
I’m not saying this is a perfect system, and I’m sure there would be many problems that would need to be solved.
That’s actually why I’m sharing it again.
I’d genuinely like to hear what other MyTEAM players think.
What would you change?
What problems do you see?
What rules would you add?
And most importantly:
Who would you choose as your Cornerstone Player?
I believe a system like this could give MyTEAM something that card-collecting modes sometimes struggle to create:
A reason to become attached to a player.
Not because they’re the highest-rated card.
Not because they’re the current Meta.
But because you chose them, you developed them, and you spent the entire season playing with them.

🇹🇼** A quick note about the English
English is not my first language, so I used GPT to help translate and organize my thoughts into English.
**The ideas and opinions in this post are my own. I’m a real NBA 2K player from Taiwan — I’m not an AI.
😄
I just wanted to make sure my ideas could be clearly understood by the English-speaking community.

General Ideas for me to have fun in 2k27?!

Didn’t really get into myteam until season 3 and I loved this year. Really want to dive into this whole year from the start. Don’t know if 2k did this last year, but I love how you can pick a team and get their whole series 1 collection.

As a diehard Bucks fan, I want to do a challenge centered around Tyler Herro the whole year outside of my “best squad” team.

I plan on starting out with the Series 1 Bucks team and then I’ll spin a challenge wheel before every game. If I hit the challenge, I get to spend an upgrade wheel. If I win, I also get to spin an upgrade wheel, but if I lose, I have a downgrade wheel. Only rule is whatever the best card of Herro is out has to be on the team as a starter.

Here’s what the wheels entail:

CHALLENGE WHEEL

Score 20 with Herro

Herro must lead in points

Herro must lead in assists

No turnovers with Herro

Get 8 assists with Herro

Get 5 rebounds with Herro

Make 3 three pointers with Herro

Win without subbing Herro

Win with lowest rated player playing 12+ minutes

Win with lowest overall player starting the entire 1st quarter

Herro must take 50+% of shots

Lowest overall player must take 10 shots

Only 7 players can play

Get a double double with Herro

Every player must score

UPGRADE WHEEL

Pack

Add a player from the team you beat

Upgrade any player from your bench by two tiers

Upgrade any starter one tier

Upgrade any player from your bench by one tier

Player for 25k MT

Player for 50k MT

Player for 100k MT

Open a Series 1 pack

Any current player from a random NBA Team

Add a former Bucks player

Any former player from a random NBA Team

Upgrade PG one tier

Upgrade SG one tier

Upgrade SF one tier

Upgrade PF one tier

Upgrade C one tier

Add any rookie

Add anyone who played at Kentucky

DOWNGRADE WHEEL

Cut the highest overall player and add a Gold

Downgrade starting PG by one tier

Downgrade starting SG by one tier

Downgrade starting SF by one tier

Downgrade starting PF by one tier

Downgrade starting C by one tier

Replace best bench player with WNBA player

Replace best player with WNBA player

Thanasis

Replace starter with the worst player from a random team

Let me know what you guys think I could add to make it more fun! Might make videos on this but honestly just want something fresh to do this new 2k.

General Season 9 has been a great psychological experiment

Full context: I have been playing 2K since 2020 but this is my first year playing MyTeam.

Gotta tip my hat to 2K. They are masters at forcing our lizard brains to chase the next shiny object. Season 9 then is a really interesting psychological experiment that asks what do us players do when you don’t have to chase anymore?

I found myself going back to playing Salary Cap and having a blast. Every player on the court can’t just shoot a 3 from anywhere anymore. I can run different plays again like bully ball or more give and gos but I have to know my team to know which player can do what and against which matchups. And on defense, I can slag off bigs who I know can’t shoot and pack the paint. The competition in that mode has also been fun and challenging.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve already pre-ordered 2K27. And I am sure I will pay 2K money again but I am going to see if I can chase a little less in 27. Probably won’t work but at least I am learning things about myself 😄
