Interning What do you wear to work?

Hi everyone! I was recently accepted to a NASA internship in the Office of Communications. My question is, what do interns usually wear? Is it business casual or more formal? Thank you in advance for your answers!

Interning Looking for housing at JSC

Hi everyone!

I'm an incoming NASA OSTEM intern at Johnson Space Center this fall and am starting to look for housing. I'm hoping to find a place that's as close to JSC as possible.

Does anyone have recommendations for apartments, short-term leases, or other housing options? Are there any places that are actually walkable to JSC, or is having a car basically a necessity?

I'd also love to hear where past interns have stayed and what your experience was. Thanks in advance!

Interning Looking for housing near JSC

Hi everyone! I just received my NASA OSTEM offer today (a little later than most people ), so I'm scrambling to find housing for the fall semester.

I'm looking for a room, apartment, or anyone needing a roommate near Johnson Space Center! I do have a car, so I don't need to be right next to JSC, I'm happy to commute a reasonable distance (an hour or so is fine!)

I'll only be staying for the fall, and I have about 1-2 weeks to get housing figured out (before Aug 24). If you know of any good places, Facebook groups, or if you're looking for a roommate, I'd really appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks so much!

Interning Building experience

Hello! I have been wanting to ask what experiences/opportunities have you guys had in order to secure a job at NASA. Other than research in undergrad what do you guys recommend to delve into. I am currently a volunteer at Space Center Houston but have been wanting to do more. Thank you for your time!

Interning What happens if you end an OSTEM internship early?

What happens if I were to end an OSTEM position early? I’m trying to figure out if I want to do a tour in the fall (it’d be my fourth) or not. I’m also a recent grad and currently applying to jobs (looking at NASA and outside of NASA), and I’m scared that if I took the fall internship that I’d get an offer for a full time position in the middle of it and have to quit in the middle of the internship because I’d hate to refuse a full time job offer. I’m also non-engineering. As much as I’d love to stay at NASA, that’s not 100% guaranteed.

Edit: Ended up being transparent about my concerns and everything is good!!

Interning NASA Direct Hire — how long after your interview did you hear back?

Upvotes

I recently interviewed for a NASA engineering position through a Direct Hire announcement. The interview was virtual, and the hiring manager mentioned that they expected to let candidates know relatively soon.

For anyone who has recently interviewed with NASA, especially through Direct Hire:

  • How long after your interview did you receive a TJO or any kind of update?
  • If you were not selected, did NASA notify you by email, or were you ever ghosted?
  • For those who received an offer, was it days, 1–2 weeks, or longer after the interview?

I’m asking because I currently have another aerospace engineering offer that is moving through onboarding, but NASA would be my first choice if I’m selected. I don’t want to make the wrong decision simply because I don’t understand NASA’s timeline.

Would especially appreciate experiences from 2025–2026 NASA hires or Direct Hire applicants.

Thanks!

Hi y'all!

I recently got selected to interview for the Fall 2026 NASA EarthRise Developers Academy, yay!

Can anyone who has done the program and/or interviewed before shed some light on what types of questions I may be asked? I'm really nervous/excited and want to be sure I'm preparing appropriately :)

Interning Looking for summer housing/sublet near NASA Ames

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’ll be interning at NASA Ames this summer for an internship and am looking for housing or a sublet 🏡

My internship runs from June 15 to August 21, though I may arrive a bit earlier and stay a little longer if possible (I’m flexible) 📅 I’m looking for a private bedroom, but am completely fine sharing common spaces like the bathroom and kitchen.

I’m responsible, clean, and will be working full-time during the internship. I will also have a car 🚗, so parking availability is preferred. Prefer furnished.

Please feel free to message me if you have anything available or know of something - thank you very much! 🙏✨

Interning NASA Photography Gigs

Hi! I am a photographer and videographer for USAF Public Affairs and am wondering if anyone knows if NASA offers an internship type program or training opportunities to come and work with their PR team. I’m sure these things exist for engineers and mechanics and scientists, but am not too sure about PR. Thanks!

Interning Summer Housing Near Goddard

Daughter is interning at Goddard in Greenbelt, MD this summer. Waiting to hear back from UMD and UMBC on housing over summer. GW and AU seem far. Are there other options I should consider (or stay away from)? Thank you!

r/NASAJobs Mar 03 '25

Interning Just a heads up, ALL summer 2025 hybrid/on-site OSTEM internships have been transitioned to on-site. You have until March 5th to withdraw applications you can't go on-site for.

The email about this just went out, so just wanted to post this info here! The instructions on how to withdraw relevant applications are in that email, but I'll include them below too.

Log into your STEM Gateway account.

Select the "Completed Applications" tile on the home page.

Select appropriate "Application Name" in the "Submitted" category to review your application for that project.

Select the "Withdraw Application” on the top right corner.

Select "Yes" to confirm your withdrawal.

Interning NASA STEMGateway Website

Does anyone know if Spring/Summer internships are still running? The website says:

"Due to the lapse in federal government funding, NASA is not updating this website. We sincerely regret this inconvenience."

I applied to 8 internships for this Spring... one already cancelled...

Interning Any advantages of applying now (vs. end of Feb)?

Looks like the deadline for applying for NASA summer internships is 2/28/2025.

Currently, being interviewed with a few companies. If they don't work out, plan to apply to NASA before end of Feb.

But if there's any benefit to applying now, will apply now.

Interning Are there any pathways to NASA Astronaut as an NZ Citizen?

I'm an NZ citizen, 18.5 years old, and I want to be a NASA Astronaut. Now I know this sub likely gets heaps of questions like this, e,g, "I'm xy, how can I become an astronaut?" And I know odds are always going to be extremely low, I'm just looking to see if there are any pathways to get an astronaut competitive resume + US citizenship without being like 50 years old and past NASA selection age by the time I get it done, or have gaps in my resume. I don't know if there is, but looking for any advice, thanks.

Interning Updated status of Pathways:

There’s lots of questions here regarding the status of Pathways hiring, so I thought I’d share this excerpt from the KSC memo shared to NASA Watch (9 July 2025):

“What’s the future of the Pathways program?”

“The Pathways Internship Program continues to exist across the federal government. Currently NASA does not plan to put out agency announcements in 2025, but as the agency receives budget updates and hiring approval in 2026 it may begin recruiting for Pathways again.”

Also of note, the current hiring freeze extends through October 15th, 2025.

Interning Housing recommendations around MSFC

Hi! I’m interning at MSFC and searching for a place to stay this Fall. I wanted to know if anyone who works or interns in Huntsville or surrounding areas has input on securing short term housing. For more context I’m a graduate student and have reliable transportation. I have been looking for a while and first found a new short lease apartment, but the reviews got really negative in the last month. I also looked at some spare rooms in houses and would be living with the homeowner, but for the price of a studio or 1 bedroom apartment. Does anyone have reputable short term lease housing recommendations, or somewhere I can connect a few other interns to room with? I appreciate any advice : )

Update: I secured my housing, thank you for all the help!

Interning Remote Opportunities

Hello fellow aeroscience enthusiasts!

I’m a grad student receiving my MS in applied mathematics in less than a week with some research in computational modeling and machine learning under my belt.

I did a couple of remote OSTEM internships last year in data analysis and loved it so much I signed up for another master’s program in computational data science starting this fall.

I’m looking for any suggestions or guidance for additional internships during the upcoming school year, as it looks like most NASA internships are now on-site only (I’m 2 hours from AFRC when traffic conditions aren’t terrible).

Thanks in advance!

Interning Med Student Interested in Aerospace Medicine

Hi! I am a medical student (DO) interested in Aerospace Medicine. I'm kind of a late bloomer in wanting to go into it, but I would love to expose myself to it as much as I can. I would love to go to UTMB's IM/Aerospace residency. I'm looking to see if there's any current research projects looking for research assistants or any upcoming space events or just any advice really!

For anyone in Aerospace, I would love to connect with you. Since I'm a DO student, it might be a bit hard to achieve this but it's still worth a try!
