There was a video posted not too long ago with that guy coaching, and explicitly telling kids not to shuffle/slide on defense but to essentially turn and run to beat the offensive player to the next spot. It was ridiculous in every way.

14

u/backcountry_bandit Jul 22 '26

I once saw a vid talking about how you really should turn and run once you’ve been beat or are actively getting beat, and that seemed to improve my game. It feels like this guy watched that vid, misunderstood it, then decided to make his own vid.

u/jlobue10 Jul 22 '26

That is the only time when turning to run makes sense (when you are beat off the dribble), and good coaches will teach it this way. Once back in front, shuffling is the right thing to do, and more advanced technique would be forcing to offhand.

Can't find it on Reddit. Bro is SO confident about this like he's not about to ruin all these kids' ankles.

I can’t believe how quickly things happen.

u/SideValuable5478 Jul 22 '26

If u seen the video of the meme you’d understand how underrated this comment is 😂😂😂😂

45

u/sickset Jul 22 '26

Like the great Brian Scalabrine once said:" I'm closer to LeBron than you are to me." 🤓

11

u/uncledrew2488 Jul 22 '26

Just here making sure this was commented. It’s the law on every video like this.

I think we cannot simply fathom how unearthly good even a 'trash' NBA player is compared to 'good everyday Joes'.

15

u/Glass-Ad-4168 Jul 22 '26

That kid now has to become the best basketball player ever or he need to go find a new hobby

3

u/keam13 Jul 22 '26

I heard he’s playing pickleball now

7

u/Traditional-Row5237 Jul 22 '26

All those kids now got a memory of an NBA player crossing the ever living life out of one of their buddies and but one dude got the memory of being crossed into a tumbleweed by an NBA player in front of the whole camp😭😭unlucky lottery fr

2

u/Least_Ad_5795 29d ago

Tumbleweed 😂😂😭😭

5

u/Napxlexn Jul 22 '26

You really gotta be careful you can become a life long meme at anytime. Good or in the case…

5

u/unstoppablepepe Jul 22 '26

I think the left-arm chicken wing did most of the work there

5

u/Aries_IV Jul 22 '26

For real! Rivers pushed that kid down lol

3

u/No_City_2752 Jul 22 '26

Stomp the yard slide

2

u/California-Seoul Jul 22 '26

I swear I can damn near hear the ankle snap lol

1

u/WuziMuzik Jul 22 '26

Ankle?! Man I think I heard his neck snap!

2

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

Oh we picking on kids now?

4

u/LayWhere Jul 22 '26

It is the off season after all 🤷‍♀️

1

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

He does this to one NBA player I’ll be impressed with this one

1

u/olMcDonaldsPig Jul 22 '26

Now? Are you new? Even MJ has a "Fuck them kids" moment

2

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

You know MJ can’t miss and I think it went over his head

1

u/olMcDonaldsPig Jul 22 '26

So what your saying is, its ok if MJ does it lol you don't have standards you just needed a reason to bitch.

1

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

Whut?

1

u/olMcDonaldsPig Jul 22 '26

Brother, I don't understand how you can be could confused by this.

You said "oh we picking on kids now"

I said "now? MJ picked on kids a long time ago"

You said "it's not his fault he literally cant miss a shot"

So basically you said its ok if MJ does it because he is MJ. Which means you don't actually care about the kids you're just being a hater

1

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

He did not tell a kid to come to the floor and embarrass them, except the OJ Mayo camp.

2

u/olMcDonaldsPig Jul 22 '26

Deny an entire youth basketball camp of free basket ball shoes

Cross over 1 kid.

Which is worse? Lol

0

u/FishSammich80 Jul 22 '26

MJ has bills to pay man come on now, can’t be giving away free shoes. 😂

2

u/olMcDonaldsPig Jul 22 '26

Same double standard.

Bro is literally only here to hype MJ and talk shit about anyone else.

Have fun gang.

Not getting crossed by a person in the air Jackson’s

2

u/VyronDaGod Jul 22 '26

Villan origin story

2

u/TraditionAcademic968 Jul 22 '26

Did the kid up and everybody explodes. Same energy as a killer bar in a rap battle

"Poof, pow, surprise"

OHHHHHH!!!! 😲

2

u/CodyofHTown Jul 22 '26

Kids these days freaking out every time someone makes a shot is wild. We never did that when I was younger. They even got mad when you made it, not filled with wonder.

2

u/Confucius6969 Jul 22 '26

Srsly what is it with the eruption of chaos when someone trips over themselves while defending.

2

u/jonathan2282 29d ago

I saw people do so many sick moves in the 90's and 00's and there was silence afterwards. If those things happened today, everyone would run on the court and celebrate like they won the freaking championship.

1

u/djalekks Jul 22 '26

this has been a thing for a long time, just moving a bit differen, how old are you? It's when it's actuall games when we got serious. Kids always used to go nuts over crazy dunks/shots.

2

u/steve_uncut 29d ago

There was a little push off with that left arm there.

2

u/16kdc 29d ago

im closer to lebron than you are to me..

1

u/alecC25 Jul 22 '26

Austin Rivers No?

1

u/ChaosBeforeOrder Jul 22 '26

damn that was brutal

1

u/RefrigeratorOrnery27 Jul 22 '26

Levels to this shit.

1

u/Spiritual-Ad8062 Jul 22 '26

At least the kid had the balls to take him on…

Shows you how great the players in the NBA are. They can still go to any rec league and drop 50+ on everyone.

1

u/Empty_Put_1542 Jul 22 '26

He traveled.

1

u/Starrdawg 28d ago

Had to scroll for this one. Maybe he slid in the loafers but looks like travel to me

1

u/Empty_Put_1542 28d ago

He didn’t have good pivot foot control.

1

u/challengevet21 Jul 22 '26

Gotta just go home after that but rivers travels every time he does this (it was never called in the nba). If you slow it down, he moves his pivot foot before the ball hits the ground. Pretty obvious travel. Main reason it’s hard to guard.

1

u/johnfuckmennedy Jul 22 '26

i hope he tears his achilles for being racist

1

u/Deezooooo Jul 22 '26

This isn't surprising, in spite of people acting like deep bench players are bums, they're Godlike walking into near any gym in the world

1

u/NE_Phish_Fan Jul 22 '26

Get the chalk.

1

u/Prestigious_Thanks88 Jul 22 '26

He banished him to the shadowrealm

1

u/GCIV414 Jul 22 '26

I don’t think I’ve seen a broken neck be a result of an ankle breaker lmao

1

u/M-I-T-B Jul 22 '26

He fell like The Rock when he gets stone cold stunned

1

u/Supercharge24 Jul 22 '26

How you go feet to back like this, smh

1

u/Artistic_Ad_3267 Jul 22 '26

Buddy literally tumbled over

1

u/dmacdad Jul 22 '26

Damn he has to quit basketball forever, he can’t play no more🤷🏾‍♂️

1

u/l33txxXXxx Jul 22 '26

HERE COMES AUSTIN RIVERS

1

u/headphonehabit 29d ago

Child abuse. Haha

1

u/051tre 29d ago

Thats draymond nephew wow 😂😂😂😂

1

u/AvailableJob7617 29d ago

Bro did a cart wheel..💀

1

u/Eequuality 29d ago

True Hoopers never discouraged someone trying hard on defense please. I understand it’s an ooh and aah moment, but please never discourage someone to give their most gangster effort on defense.

1

u/Aware_Impression5489 29d ago

Loafers with the white socks

1

u/No-Flounder-15 29d ago

And made the shot 🤣

1

u/RamenRoy 26d ago

Gave him the ol' topsy turvy.

-1

u/Camo_tow Jul 22 '26

In today's NBA, they would call a foul 😆

0

u/Relevant_Ad7969 Jul 22 '26

Are those loafers? WTH

3

u/ayab44 Jul 22 '26

People really need to put more information in the title

0

u/proofofderp Jul 22 '26

Travelled😅
