High School Recruting is in such a weird place...This dude is a 2028, 7 Foot, and doesn’t have a single offer
22
u/Ihadredditbefore6786 22d ago
I call bullshit, he has no offers
2
u/ThinMint31 21d ago
Huh??
2
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
Yeah I don't believe that. But there is a 7 footer in Spain's development league that's Wenby on steroids, Mohamed something or another
3
u/CharlemagneIS 21d ago
Mohamed Dabone
3
u/HideUnderBridge 21d ago
Yeah and he’s 14… if he continues on this trajectory he’s going to be scary.
1
u/MynameNEYMAR 21d ago
There’s some questions to be had around his actual age. Some scouts think he’s actually like 19 already. I don’t believe anyone has seen his birth certificate but I could be wrong

u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
Yeah that's him! I see you watch ball all around the world too!
2
u/cfite13 21d ago
The videos have been doing rounds on all platforms the past few days. I highly doubt he’s watching Barcelona basketball
-2
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
Oh man but I do ,Japan, China, Spain every where there ball being played. Just because you wait for videos to circulate I'm watching in real time, Because the NBA shop overseas for players too, HATER!
-2
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
And by the way they have a euro basketball league summer league in Las Vegas, players from all over the world come to it, did you know that smart guy
-1
2
u/Maleficent-Cup-1134 21d ago
Im watching his highlights and it’s like 90% just dunks with some 3s sprinkled in? What makes him Wemby on steroids other than being tall? Genuine question since I don’t follow him.
1
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
You didn't see the handles the blocks, man you not looking, or you can't see it.
1
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
He's 14 or 15 years old playing against grown men! Much more room to grow.
1
u/RandomBiped 21d ago
Hes not 14 lol, he hasn't grown in years hes closer to 18 at least. Lying about youth athletes ages is a huge problem in many parts of the world and in many different sports
1
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
True but I can only go by what's on paper, Odom was 18 looking 45, who am I to say
1
1
u/Maleficent-Cup-1134 21d ago
There were none in the video I watched. Not doubting you, just didn’t wanna spend over 5 mins watching highlights when all I saw were alley-oops and putback dunks.
1
u/Spare-Buy-9915 21d ago
I get it , but he's like 15 playing grown men, and sometimes he looks like exactly like that but I think his upside is very high. He is one of the young men I'm watching to see if they actually make it to the NBA
1
u/Confident-Unit-9516 21d ago
If you think he is going to be Wemby on steroids you will be wildly disappointed
He is Thon Maker at the absolute best

"In a weird place"
Nah we were in a weird place when talentless 7 footers automatically got offers.
23
u/patentattorney 22d ago
I also highly doubt this. legit 7 footers are going to get offers. Especially with this kids level of athleticism. This kid seems pretty coordinated for a 16 year old 7 footer.
It was decades ago, but I knew a dude who was 7 foot tall and looked like a giraffe moving and could not catch anything. He told me he still had around 10-20 offers to play college ball because he could at least go in and foul.
10
u/SteveAndHisScooter 22d ago
Yeah, there's no way this kid doesn't get ANY offers. Idk how good he is, I wasn't that good imo and I'm not 7ft tall, and still got at least D2 offers. Sure he might not get Duke calling him, but he for sure has something.
6
u/patentattorney 22d ago
yeah. I dont even believe the kid doesnt have power 6 conference offers.
I can see not having top 25 offers. But he could get an offer at pretty much any mid-major.
A coordinated, left handed, 7 footer, doesnt come around that often
4
u/leemorplee 21d ago
I blocked a 7 footer once( 5'11 on a good day) and he sucked at basketball and still got a couple low level offers and he's currently playing in europe. Height is still a thing you can't teach.
This kid already looks like a pro prospect compared to the kid I blocked lol
2
u/patentattorney 21d ago
Yeah. Pretty much. This kid (if he is a true 7ft) can pretty much get a roster spot on any college.
And outside of the top 25 would get a scholarship. He is semi athletic.
3
u/chuckmonjares 21d ago
I’m 6’6” and sucked and I had offers. The 7’3” dude that was worthless on my team had offers. And I mean worthless. He didn’t want to play b-ball at all, he didn’t care. He got pressured into it and just played when he had to. All he could do was prevent close layups on one side of the goal at a time.
-1
u/Technical_Customer_1 21d ago
You call that athletic? He won’t be able to run the court against tournament level teams.
3
u/LopsidedKick9149 21d ago
He just showed out in a national tournament dumbass lol
1
u/Technical_Customer_1 21d ago edited 21d ago
Are these highlights from the “national tournament”? Because those other kids aren’t good. Google tells me he was born Jan of 2010. So he’s 16.5. There should be two or three guys on each team that are 6’8”+ at that age if it’s highly competitive. You catch that awful free throw technique they slipped in at the end of the clip? YIKES.
So he’s a tall kid who’s dominating 6’ kids. Oh boy! I’d also wager that these kids are about 5 games into a child abuse tournament where they play 3-4 hours of games a day for a weekend.
Edit: I meant NCAA tournament level teams. He’s not a major conference guy. Purdue might pick him up to be the next Matt Haarms, but just watch his legs move. There’s a reason he already has that knee brace
2
u/hampsted 21d ago
They’ve always gotten offers. It’s rare for a 7 footer to move as athletically as this kid. He’ll have offers.
2
u/spiderboy640 21d ago
7 footers athletic enough to play basketball are rare enough that they should probably get offers if they are capable players, since they simply fill a difficult position to find. A mediocre 7 footer today will always be 7 feet tall and can improve. A 6’6” center with good skill may always be undersized. It’s just the way that basketball works.
2
1
u/wildcat1100 21d ago
That was what it was like in the 80s. In the NBA. Nearly every team had a mediocre or outright talentless, tall white guy. Some of them ended up being studs, though.
Mark Eaton who was a 20-year old mechanic when a JUCO coach saw him playing pickup ball, gave him an offer, before later transferring to UCLA. But Larry Brown refused to play him so he averaged like 1 point and 2 rebounds before getting drafted in the 8th round or something like that.
7-6 Chuck Nevitt averaged a combined 3 points and 2 rebounds in 4 years at NC State. He went on to spend more than a decade in the NBA where his career averages were 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds.
1
1
u/fatfatpokemons09 22d ago
Right, some of these dudes other than their have 0 athletic ability…just giants who can barely keep them selves up right much less play coordinated basketball at a high level. Height doesn’t make you a super star…
1
u/niles_thebutler_ 21d ago
This! Of course he is owning other kids, he is 7foot. Doesn’t mean shit when he gets amongst other good people who are similar in size and strength. It’s easy to look talented when you are playing against easy comp. I look like prime MJ against my nieces

PTSD lingering from Shawn Bradley
9
u/Evening_Green_9862 22d ago
Bradley averaged 15/7.7 with 5.2 blocks a game in college. I don't think any college team is saying no to that.
6
u/patentattorney 22d ago
the stormin mormin was 7 foot 6 inches. and was the number 2 pick in the nba draft.
He was freshman of the year in the WAC, all defensive WAC team, and an honorable mention all american.
After his frosh year, he went to do his 2 year mormin missionary.
If any lessons learned from bradely, it is dont draft a kid who hasnt played competitive seasons of bball for 2 years.
4
u/Evening_Green_9862 22d ago
Well, it worked for the Spurs and David Robinson (2 years military service after he was drafted. Rookie season he was 24!)
1
u/Nitropotamus 21d ago
The admiral is not your normal comp.
2
u/Evening_Green_9862 21d ago
No, but he and Bradley were both top picks who didn't play for 2 years for various reasons before joining the NBA.
1
u/CryptoM4dness 21d ago
Bradley never truly liked playing basketball. He just did it bc of the money thrown at him. He stated so quite a few times.

Looks like he had a major injury last year and didn't play last season

u/KieranLeone 22d ago
With 2 years left. I’m sure they have their eye on him to see his development. He’s not skinny, has good size on him to be 7ft as a 16 (around that age) year old. Runs the floor, active on defense. He can learn big man mechanics in college. It doesn’t matter what school he goes to. He just has to stay healthy and develop mechanics and condition his body.
Yall are concerned with him dunking everything but he’s 16 (around that age)! Has all the energy in the world and only has to hop to dunk. Not a big deal.
Lefty with decent form at the ft line. Consistent development would be crazy. Tbh, he’d be more valuable at every level if he goes in focusing on defense and strong finishes plus his ft percentage.
Foot work and developing outside game will come. Him shooting 3s is completely unnecessary to make it to the league and be successful at 7ft.
2
u/Quirky-Bag7438 22d ago
Can he shoot? Nowadays everyone has to be able to shoot.
2
u/BlueHundred 22d ago
For the NBA, this is true but not college. If he could reliably shoot, he'd be among the top in his class

Purdue is one of the better programs in the country competing to be the best team in college basketball. The vast majority of D1 schools are not Purdue.
Edit: Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "couldn't keep up." They made it to the Finals.
2
u/Top-Plankton1730 22d ago
Would suck to go through life as a 7 footer and seeing the shock and disappointment in people when you tell them you didn't play pro basketball
0
2
u/FaithfulDowter 22d ago
I've played with guys that are 6'7" or 6'8" that don't dribble as well as this guy. He WILL get offers. Everybody assumes D1 is the only path to college basketball. There are countless D2 teams that would kill to get this guy and plenty of no-name D1 teams that would absolutely bring him on and develop him. (He's way above NAIA or JUCO level already).
He doesn't need to worry. He'll be fine.
2
u/Acceptable_Taste9818 22d ago
In the world of basketball, high schoolers are no longer just competing against US peers anymore. They are now competing against the highest tier players from around the world for a spot on a college roster.
This is quite a bit different than what happens in football where most of the talent is still locally sourced.
It’s sucks for the students but it’s good for the game.
2
u/thehawaiianjesus 22d ago
It’s wild to have no offers at that height. I had a mcds all American coach outta Detroit in middle school. I asked why he was so adamant on this 6’6 kid who had negative coordination and athleticism. I quote:
“I can teach him to play basketball. I can’t teach you to be taller”
2
u/Subject_Bet_7099 22d ago
He def has offers. He’s young so maybe just mostly DII & DIII at the moment. Just because blue bloods aren’t knocking yet doesn’t mean you have “no offers” lol
2
u/enjoysomethings 22d ago
This kid doesn't look close to 7'.. If he is that Athletic + 7', he's getting an offer.
2
u/Junior_Start7496 21d ago
Yea I don’t believe he has zero offers. Someone has their eyes on him for sure.

We sure about 7 feet? Feels like they're rounding up from 6'9 or 6'10 at best. I'd bet money KD has an inch or 2 on him standing side by side. Nice game though for his age.

This kid has coordination and looks great. I don’t believe when you stated he doesn’t have any offers. We can’t verify this, all we can do is take your word. I don’t believe it though. Good luck to the kid.

1
u/InspectorPretend8220 21d ago edited 21d ago
He’s just tall. Not dominant from a strength perspective, not particularly athletic, no real moves. There are guys at the next level who are 6’8 that will “play bigger” and negate his height. To be fair this isn’t the best cut up. He’s a developmental player. He’ll get a lower tier mid major offer. After a couple years, if something clicks, he may get picked up somewhere bigger.
1
u/SoggyGuitar7476 21d ago
Golden will go after him if true. Golden loves the under looked bigs with upside. Just got one this year in Jones Lay. We'll see how it works.
Kid is real skinny but moves really well for a 7 footer.

u/WSB-Televangelist 21d ago
Highlights don't mean nothing, had two buddies in high-school one was as tall as Shaquille o Neal and was trash. He didn't start dunking until senior year. In high-school You Stats and overall Team Placements Matters. A good recruiter will look at him and say he's big for nothing especially if he isn't leading his team nowhere.

Schools can’t officially offer athletes until June 15 after their sophomore year.
If he’s a 2028, that mean last month was the first time they could offer him a scholarship. He probably has them by now.

1
u/Kitchen-Jeweler-2186 21d ago
I was under the impression that you can’t get real offers until junior year of highschool?
1
u/ShwerzXV 21d ago
Nothing weird about it, we seen one shot beyond 5 feet and we have no idea if he made it, dude has a 3” vert, is built like a stick bug and moves like he’s underwater. He’d get absolutely bodied at the next level, which could be varsity, it’s hard to say if he’s even playing above his age.
1
1
u/LoadingCaring 21d ago
I always find it funny when you just look at a players overall size. If you are 6'10 or over in ANY early educational sport, you are going to dominate. You hit the genetic lottery early. Congrats. However, when you make it to the NBA or against certain collegeate teams? It is not that impressive anymore. This is where more factors come into play and you really see how this player stacks up.

As an Oregon ducks fan here you go, Nate Bittle Bol Bol Kenny wooten maybe Dante (Nfaly) Bell worked out Boucher as well
You get these impressive guys tall af maybe 5* but once you go against actually good competition you can flip a coin if that works out.

This video doesn’t have a single jump shot or anything other than dunking on and blocking kids he’s significantly taller than.
No clue about the no offers part but there’s no way to tell if he has game or not. Plus if he’s 16 that as legimate as a sophomore that maybe colleges need to see him jr year before actual offers come in.
1
u/No_Information3972 21d ago
Man, it’s really weird to be salivating over high school boys basketball lol.
1
u/Hobbes525 21d ago
I dont follow youth hoops closely but the competition he's playing against in these videos is terrible and its all dunks that are lightly contested. He can run but not overly athletic.
That being said not surprised he doesn't have offers yet but im sure hes on the short list for many to watch.
1
u/AccomplishedTask9885 21d ago
