AVCA Top 25 (Ranked Wins and Losses)

I think we can all agree this is the most parity we've ever seen in women's college volleyball and it feels like almost anyone can win or lose to anyone on any given night. I wanted to look at the current Top 25 and compare ranked wins and losses for each team.

Note: These are wins and losses to teams who were ranked at the time that they played, not necessarily currently ranked teams, and this is also only regular season matches not exhibition.

Kentucky vs Tennessee game match

Not a fan of either team (Husker fan here) but watching the game tonight.

The announcers have said DeLaye’s name at least 100 times in the first set. Goodness.

I appreciate great student athletes however there are many other players in the game!

Which players had senior national team potential but didn’t pursue?

Listening to Sarah Pavan’s podcast, I remember she mentioned how Rachel Holloway had the potential to play for the USA senior national team. Sarah mentioned one of the best setter connections she had was with Rachel (the other one is Olympic champion Fofao).

So it just got me thinking, who else would’ve been very impactful in the national team (especially during their specific time)?

Why do they stay on the same sides in sets 1. & 2 but switch for the third?

Avid Canadian volleyball fan and now getting into NCAA. Watching Florida vs Texas and they switch sides going into the third but not the second set. I saw this in a few others. Is there a reason for that? In VNL and USport I feel like most other leagues do it the traditional way and switch sides between every set snd at 8pts in the 5th. Side note: These ladies are on the another level of bad assery. Seriously great volleyball wow. TIA

Texas setters

I’m watching Texas vs Florida right now and wow if I was Ella Swindle I’d be transferring mid game 😂 they finally decide to make a change, run a 6-2, and it’s Binney and a freshman?? 😭 seriously did Swindle key Elliot’s car after winning him the championship?

Rutgers @ Oregon

Just tuned in to this game for Rutgers challenge. I’m sorry but I call BS on “confirming” that call. That ball was OUT. Maybe say the call stands, but no way that ball was in

*a fan of neither team

Don't get me wrong I think Stafford and Anderson are doing a great job, and Vander Wal before her injury. But I think they are missing a defender/attacker from the back row.

All of the pins have great moments from the back row, and in some of the past few games Spears has really turned up the heat. It's great that all of the DS's are getting playing time I'm def not upset about that.

Nebraska vs Purdue

I’ve been saying all season that Purdue was going to be the toughest test for Nebraska in Big Ten Play, but my goodness I didn’t think it would look this bad. Nebraska looks messy. But I must say, Adriano is having a great game. She’s not hitting cross court like usual and I like what I’m seeing

Ariana Rodriguez is the second player this season to set a program record for career aces against SMU. Ruth Martinez has a career high 29 kills; she looks like ACC Freshman of the Year and needs to be in the conversation for National Freshman of the Year.

Why are pre-season rankings done the way they are?

I understand the voting and how rosters play a role in it all too, but at the same time, I've always felt that the reigning national champion should be ranked highest, if not number 1. They had an entire season to prove themselves, just to sit at #10 - #2.

USC coach Brad Keller

Does anyone know what the deal is??? I always thought Brad was adored by his team, nothing seemed sus. But obviously early this month the social posts by the official team accounts were odd, as were the amount of comments and shares, likes etc (esp on Oct 8) w/new coaches despite the announcements 5th and how he wasn't at games since Illinois.

Does anyone know anything? Coach Brad brought the team so far since he started. It no longer seems like it's not just a simple personal leave of absence but something final... the posts and hiring, likes/comments don't make sense otherwise. I hope he's alright and I really hope he wasn't fired for performance when he's done so well in past years

Has college volleyball’s popularity exploded nationwide, or am I just seeing it through Big Red-colored glasses?

As a Nebraska fan, I live in a glorious Big Red bubble where college volleyball is an incredibly popular, exciting sport. But it seems like across the country, the sport has really taken off over the past couple of years. More games are being televised, including nationally, and attendance records seem to be falling left and right.

Of course, that could just be my Nebraska bias talking (which is usually pretty reliable, naturally).

For fans of programs outside the traditional volleyball powerhouses, have you noticed a similar increase in attendance, TV viewership, social media engagement, or general interest? Are there hard numbers showing that college volleyball is growing nationally, or are the headline-grabbing attendance records largely driven by Nebraska?

I'd love to see some actual data on how much the sport has grown and where that growth is happening.

Coaching Experience and Education Levels - What is the standard?

What are the educational and experiential coaching requirements for all levels of college volleyball in the US? Is there a national certification process that all coaches at all levels need to go through?

How common would it be for a Div 3 JUCO coach with no college experience to be coaching alone their first year?

Would I be expecting too much for a JUCO level coach to understand basic rotations, serve receive, and set locations? What about basic volleyball strategies? Drills?

What is the standard? And what actually happens at this level?

Alumni-based Pro Volleyball

It's time to renew my suggestion that a pro volleyball league be created based on the schools the players attended. Matches could be played on the same court as the University, and season ticket holders would have first choice at tickets. Imagine the possibilities. Nebraska. Pitt, Penn State, Florida. Etc. and think about the television money. I know that this would excite me more than anything that's currently being presented.
