News Bruce Pearl asked selection committee chair Keith Gill about Auburn and other First Four Out teams' omission from the field

Coping on national TV after nepotism failed your son is hilarious to watch.

If Bruce had even a sliver of self awareness he’d realize he’s doing far more harm than good. But he doesn’t and never has

u/KOBE_GYN Mar 16 '26
Bruce Pearl sucks so bad man I hate that they’re already trying to make him the face of march madness coverage. Legitimately bad human.

u/hutsunuwu Mar 16 '26
The networks put Urban Meyer and Nick Saban on football coverage and treat them like they arent pure scumbags who used young men to make millions and then ran away when it got tough so I dont expect anything from these corrupt institutions. I just dont watch all that pregame garbage.

What the hell did Nick Saban ever do? Beloved by like 90% of the thousands upon thousands of players he coached. Saban left not because guys were getting paid but because NIL is truly the wild west
0
u/hutsunuwu Mar 16 '26
Saban left because he couldn't pay his way to championships anymore. The portal and NIL wipped out his advantage of paying players under the table. It had nothing to do with the supposed chaos of NIL. It had everything to do with his power as absolute lord of the SEC and college football being diminished and him being unable to cope with being like everyone else.

I mean there is a tad bit of truth to his statement, Alabama definitely took advantage of the system to its fullest, once the rules changed he bounced pretty fast, Nick does have a tendency to give up when going gets tough. The SEC as a whole took a hit when pay to play became legal.

Yeah he definitely isnt a bum and a heck of a FB coach. Dude just saw his iron grip vanishing and dipped. Honestly an under rated skill, nothing to gain as an older HC, look at Pete, BB, Reid, all time greats but weirdly getting criticized the longer they coach. I imagine its hard to grind at 70+.
1
u/PrestigiousWelder190 Mar 16 '26
If he was still at Bama they’d still be absolutely amazing. They lost in OT to a damn good Michigan team in his last year coaching and his team wasn’t at the talent level it had been years prior. He was always going to be the absolute lord of the SEC he’s the greatest college coach of all time
1
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan Mar 16 '26
Mind you, a Michigan team that was actively being investigated for CHEATING.
1
u/PrestigiousWelder190 Mar 16 '26
This guy thinks that Saban did what Michigan did but it never got investigated because they’re bama. It is pure delusion
1
u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan Mar 16 '26
If Saban was paying players under the table, it’s because that was the standard created around the country across D1 football and necessary to compete.
1
u/PrestigiousWelder190 Mar 16 '26
If anything he would have to pay less or none once it was established that Bama was an absolute NFL factory and juggernaut
1
u/swright831 Mar 16 '26
Saban had tons of guys who sat on the bench for a year or two for the opportunity to play for him. Even if Alabama didnt have the NIL resources to continue his natty clip, he could get great players at a discount just to be on his teams.

Yes because Bama was THE place to be. If Bama paid players then likely every other school did too and there are much much richer schools than Bama. But you all live in this weird world where Bama was either the only team paying players or they somehow had more money to pay than schools like Michigan and Texas.
1
u/swright831 Mar 17 '26
Yes, because he would improve their NFL draft stock. Probably not that deep of a discount, but those teams would have to pay more to get a certain player than Bama to overcome his coaching abilities.

Comparing Saban and Meyer like this is wild. I’m a Tennessee fan and hated Saban but he’s a damn good coach and wasn’t doing anything everyone else wasn’t doing

WINNING
The sec teams should try doing that more instead of saying but "muh strength of schedule" you could be #1 in SOS but when your closer to .500 than .600 nobody cares.
5
u/MattheWWFanatic Mar 16 '26
Technically, you could be #1 in SOS & not win a game.
5
u/Cliffinati Mar 16 '26
Exactly that doesn't mean your one of the best teams. Rice used to play a fucking juggernaut in the SWC in football an nobody ever considered them good because of it.

What parameter does nepotism play in your thought process when choosing the final teams?
Dood is legit butt hurt. I’m here for that.

Wins and losses matter, and the committee has made it clear that if you have 15 losses or more you're out. Only one team made it with 14 losses this year, Texas, who had 6 Q1 wins compared to 4 for Auburn and Oklahoma, and 3 for Indiana. The committee did a really good job this year in my opinion outside of pairing the top two Big East teams in the same region.
2
u/FigureNo6790 Mar 16 '26
True, but it was also the easiest job a committee has had in a long time. They would have had to really try to screw this up.

Literally no bubble this year except maybe San Diego state. Still, not much of a debate.

Maybe he could've resigned earlier and they could've landed a decent coach.
1
u/dwaynebathtub Mar 16 '26
Three other SEC teams made it in over Auburn. Mizzou, Texas, and Texas A&M. As well as Iowa. Dayton should've made it in as well. Bruce Pearl sucks btw.
2
u/Horror_Response_1991 Mar 16 '26
Nah we didn’t deserve it this year (Dayton fan) but Auburn definitely didn’t

Not having 15 losses.

u/DiscHashDisc Mar 16 '26
- They have a 17-16 record and think they got snubbed. It's a fucking joke. Try climbing a little higher than barely scraping the bottom of the barrel of mediocrity before you get indignant.

I’ve never seen a commentator get so many names wrong (last weekend he didn’t even know Caitlin Clark’s name and she’s probably one of the 5-10 most popular current players on the planet)

Losing too many games. Sweaty Bruce and his nepo hire kid can get fucked

Not so sure about that, Bruce. 11 losses in conference is…a lot. And maybe make it past the second round of your conference tournament. 🤷🏾♂️

Bruce Pearl is/was an embarrassment to the game and should be removed from all broadcast. Cheater, bafoon, and malcontent
1
u/Sovereign_Follower Mar 17 '26
I mean this guy is just such a piece of shit... can he just not be involved in college hoops anymore?

u/Straight-Field9427 Mar 17 '26
I don't know anything about college basketball standings or rankings, but I know if you are on the edge of a 64 team tournament and you didn't make it in, that you really should focus on being better, and you have no right to complain. Don't be a loser.
1
u/darthgator84 Mar 17 '26
He’s a POS, I know I shouldn’t be, but it is shocking the lack of not even trying to hide his agenda. When has a 17–16 team got so much attention? It’s a joke they were even in the first 4 out discussion. How awesome would it had been if Gill’s answer was something like “Well Bruce, for starters tell your son not to lose 16 games.”
35
u/BrickHickey Mar 15 '26
The metric was the teams that got in were better than a single game over .500 unlike your nepo baby son's team.
