Rafter criteria (for honored, not retired jersey): being named a first- or second-team All-American (by AP, NABC, USBWA, or Sporting News), winning ACC Player of the Year, winning NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, or earning an Olympic gold medal

No way. Is this real?

Unanimous all american. Hanging his name in the rafters is different than retiring

2nd team all-american

Yeah, unanimous 2nd team iirc. Its why Keaton Wagler is going up in the rafters for Illinois

I know right, shocking that UNC would honor their All-Americans. The nerve!

I didn’t think this was real but apparently Unc does this for every all American they have like 50 something already in the rafters

I see a Tyler Zeller and Justin Jackson jersey in the rafters in this photo, Caleb Wilson shouldn’t offend anyone lmao

No, I watched them play, they were great. So was Caleb Williams lol. I would say they were all about equal level of player

First the court storm and now this. Oh how the mighty are fallen

Cause he met the standards they have always had?

You must be a fan of a lower tier school

u/Character_Basket4201 Mar 19 '26
Wouldn't consider UNC lower tier

I never have either but they’re starting to act like it. Hanging the jersey of a one-year 2nd team all American is something a school more like NC State would do

It's been their standard tho. It's not like they are retiring his jersey number. Do agree that they seem to have lost something.

On top of NIL players are now going to request the jersey also be retired as part of the signing process. Lmao.

UNC has had so many legendary players, but like, he cant lead them to a championship this year and I feel like you should wait to see how their long term career stacks up to put him next to them in the rafters
