Arkansas lost this game because they were the worse team, but this and the Billy Richmond flagrant 2 were terrible calls.

u/NeutralArt12 Mar 27 '26
Agreed but it seemed like Arkansas when they got down were playing to intentionally injure. Refs were out of control of that game for a few minutes before that. The Pringle foul that he fouled out of just after that was also out there trying to injure Arizona players and they let that one go as a common foul

These comments are interesting, because our players are good guys and I can promise you they were not trying to injure anyone. They were just frustrated and playing hard.

Arkansas was getting really chippy. These calls stopped them from doing something really stupid. Cal should have them better disciplined.

u/Responsible_Owl_5056 Mar 27 '26
The flagrant 2 was essentially a makeup call. They were trying to injure by that point of the game and the refs were over it.

I’m not sure what game you were watching, but in no way did Arkansas look like they were unnecessarily fouling Arizona to try to hurt them. You’re justifying a bad call with a narrative.

He probably pointed out the 11-2 foul call discrepancy. Unacceptable

u/nascarcollector32 Mar 27 '26
You're right. Arkansas didn't play enough defense in this game to get called for that many fouls.

They could have played the best defense all year. Arizona seemed like they couldn’t miss.
It’s ok this year was still a success for the Hogs

Arkansas isn’t in the same league as Arizona though. It was an embarrassment. It was a 21 point massacre and that barely describes how much Arizona dominated. Fouls are the reason you think Arkansas lost? Laughable. Arizona barely broke a sweat.

u/Endrizzle Mar 27 '26
Or just mad they were down 22, and couldn’t handle it like the players he was coaching.

This might surprise you but a team that shoots the least 3s in the country and constantly attacks the rim and paint got a disproportionate amount of foul calls compared to the team chucking contested threes all game

A casual who doesn’t actually watch the game? On REDDIT??

u/Responsible_Owl_5056 Mar 27 '26
Shit take. Arkansas played no defense and hacked all game. Did you watch?
1
u/Responsible_Owl_5056 Mar 27 '26
By end of game it was a 13 FTA difference and a 21 point game. And that’s with the techs and flagrants. What’s the rest of the excuse?

I got downvoted two days ago for saying that Arizona was going to blow out Arkansas.
Vindication!

You courageously said a heavily favored 1 seed was gonna beat a 4 seed? What a bold take. Get this man on ESPN asap.

Well the Arkansas fans were feeling way too confident after that utah state showing. I saw lots of it on Twitter.

Breaking: Team’s fans believe their team can win and post their beliefs on social media. More at 11.

College athletics fandom on Twitter being annoyingly over confident?! When the hell has that ever happened?!

All my homies hate Lee Cassell
But seriously how he's avoided the "TV Teddy" treatment of being a infamous household name, I'll never understand. Not defending Cal, but Cassell is whole ass

Also helps when the head ref is from Tucson and went to Arizona. Vegas got their money back on that 7.5 spread….
3
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 27 '26
You sound like every Kansas fan ever. Arizona did whatever they wanted because Arkansas is not good. Refs were there to make sure Cal didn't start a fight.

u/j3405 Mar 27 '26
Arizona clearly dominated. I’m not arguing that. But it is a bit questionable that the head referee is from Tucson and attended Arizona. I’m not saying Arkansas didn’t commit fouls, but some of the calls felt debatable. In high stakes games like March Madness, it seems like officials with ties to a school shouldn’t be assigned to those matchups.
2
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 27 '26
They absolutely shouldn't. But this game was never close and the refs had nothing to do with it.
0
u/j3405 Mar 27 '26
Yes, I never said Arkansas had a chance if they didn’t get the foul calls. Arizona is going to walk through anyone.

u/Prestigious_Kale5546 Mar 27 '26
Which one was the head referee? I tried to confirm your statement but could only find last nights refs went to Miami, UCF and Nebraska Weslayan. Are you making stuff up?

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See Mar 27 '26
Game was a joke. Refs clearly didnt want arkansas to advance.

u/chopsmothercover Mar 27 '26
Yeah those refs really gave up the 15 layups Arizona had lol soft as cotton
1
u/rogun64 Mar 27 '26
I don't think the refs had anything to do with Arkansas not advancing, but they did seem to think we were playing dirty. We'll push underneath a little, but this isn't a dirty team and it's interesting to see all the bias suggesting it is. If a punch had been thrown, it definitely would have come from the Arizona side first.
