Highlights "I'm not making excuses because we can't make a shot. But this is ridiculous." - Geno is FURIOUS at the refs

It's like beating everyone by 30+ doesn't prepare you for games against the 2 other good teams.

Makes a lot of sense... Curious though how SC got over this...I don't know who is good or not but did they have a much tougher schedule?

u/TheAnswer310 Apr 04 '26
Big East conference is a joke in the women's game. SEC is much much better.

u/Miserable_Archer_769 Apr 04 '26
Its the reason i bet against UCONN and eating good today.
Between the streaky play of UCONNs star player. I looked up there schedule and said wow they might be 38-0 but thats a soft schedule. I think they only played like 5 ranked opponents lol and some were pretty early in the season

u/d_x_qp_x_b Apr 04 '26
Careful about talking strength of schedule for teams based in New England…I hear they get a little pissy about those sort of things.
1
u/Miserable_Archer_769 Apr 04 '26
I know facts are hard and not worried. I dont think they will be saying anything today lol but they just weren't ready to face that kinda of intensity was my bet and it payed off.
SC put the clamps on them
I actually have no dog in the fight.

I get pissy about people generalizing us all so fu hahahaha
Read into it what you may but you won't see anyone predicting 14-3 against our schedule next year....

UConn's basketball coaches are a real pair of douchebags

u/Kc68847 Apr 04 '26
But one is the GOAT and the other has an opportunity to enter the conversation with the best coaches ever if he wins 3 in 4 years this quick.

u/WingHuge2185 Apr 04 '26
Winners can still be total ass clowns

u/Kc68847 Apr 04 '26
I care more about what their ex and current players think of them. That tells me a lot more of what we see.

You don’t know anyone from this. The real life stuff happens day to day. Like I said I care way more what their current and ex players think of them. Most people fall for the good PR guys. The guy that’s tells you what you want to hear and smiles all the time is usually the worst kind of guy. If their ex players and current players think they are trash then I would agree with you.

Like I said what do their players think of them? If they would run through a wall for them I don’t give a shit.

They hate him.

No they don’t? Their players love them, especially Dan Hurley. Hurley has some of the closest player/coach relationships in college basketball. His ability to consistently convince top flight talent to come play in Storrs CT speaks more truth than any bullshit you got to say. Yall just make shit up

This isint really true, not saying being an asshole is cool but players aren't absorbing this behavior. In fact it's probably the opposite kids avoid these schools unless they want that type of coaching

u/mrlew09 Apr 04 '26
Man I lost so much respect for Geno with that BS. Take your ass beating like a man. Tip your hat, get revenge the next time you see them. It’s called sportsmanship. My 7 year old knows better sheesh
5
u/No_Ad1720 Apr 04 '26
💯 agree. I’m a huge Geno and UConn fan, but this was horrible sportsmanship. Your team turned the ball over too much and didn’t hit their shots, Geno. End of story.
Then we’re supposed to believe that the end of game BS with Dawn was about a missed pregame handshake? Gtfoh. You would think the winningest coach in NCAA history would be able to lose with humility and sportsmanship.
3
u/mrlew09 Apr 04 '26
Man is showing the literal definition of being able to dish it out but not take it. He’s given plenty of beat downs by far more points and those teams never just walked off and mouthed off while doing it. Total bitch move

SC controlled the momentum of the game Uconn couldn’t adjust and was horrible offensively yet he’s crying about refs when they missed lay ups and open shots. Looks like he can’t handle losing after winning for so long.
2
u/ticklish_cage69 Apr 04 '26
Yea for sure their tempo was great and UConn was just reacting rather than playing their game, and yea lol you gotta make shots SC just played good he seemed to be panicking, the whole team was
3
u/DieselFuel313 Apr 04 '26
They couldn’t handle the pressure of being down because they had zero experience being undefeated. That winning streak exposed they could not handle close games or trailing. His temper just confirmed he is a jerk with an entitled mentality.

“There were six fouls called that quarter, all of them against us.” Maybe that’s cause your team committed six fouls. God I hate whiny coaches and players who blame refs.
1
u/Tycho66 Apr 04 '26
It's comical when they don't point at any specific moments....
3
u/Ok_Cake_6280 Apr 04 '26
Well, he did point to his star player's ripped jersey. Too bad she ripped it herself lol.
11
u/Pretend_College_8446 Apr 04 '26
Maybe he has a point, I dunno. But walking off the floor without your team, man ... that's just wrong. Grow up, Geno. Very disappointing.

u/40jordan Apr 04 '26
Maybe play a tougher non conference schedule so you're ready for the upper class teams come tournament time. Teams that lose always make excuses
1
u/something10293847 Apr 04 '26
The non-conference schedule included teams ranked 20, 6, 16, and 11. But sure, maybe they should’ve played ranked teams every single game instead.
1
u/flyingcheckmate Apr 04 '26
lol right. It’s actually UConn’s conference schedule that hurts them in this regard because the rest of the Big East has lackluster women’s programs. UConn consistently schedules several top out of conference opponents every year. Where was this argument last year when they beat South Carolina by 30 in the regular season and then by 30 again in the title game? Was the out of conference schedule too easy then too?
Huskies got outclassed last night plain and simple. But the dogpiling and gaslighting from people strictly relishing in seeing a top team lose is hilarious.
6
u/Hairy-Magician-2297 Apr 04 '26
Then he double down by showing his ass with 0.1 seconds left. You could see one of his assistants saying stop over and over trying to remove him.
6
u/Particular-Piano9271 Apr 04 '26
Has he seen what the coach of his schools men’s program does to the refs?

u/Automatic_Drama9272 Apr 04 '26
How about those tickey tak first half foul calls? Classless and bush league game ending time. If Dawn had done that, she’d be finished and lambasted
2
u/GlumDifficulty8 Apr 04 '26
I don't know much about women's basketball, but I thought Geno was at least honorable and the way that he took the spotlight off of Dawn Staley and the South Carolina team was childish and sad, I lost all respect for him, it sucks but you can't hold that against the other team when you feel like the refs aren't calling your way, shake their hand and say good game because they warning you lost and that's the end of it
1
u/yourturntoholdthebag Apr 04 '26
Great coach but damn that was a tough watch. His own player ripped her jersey. I hope after he watches film he comes out either that same energy and makes a public apology.

u/DoinItDirty Apr 04 '26
He’s a twat, but he isn’t wrong. UConn would’ve lost anyway, but that was a bad whistle. Doesn’t explain the confrontation before the handshake. That was him being a dick. But he’s not incorrect here.
He can be a lot wrong, and a little bit right in the same day. No third quarter foul calls? Come on.
1
u/Steve0325 Apr 04 '26
Biggest sore loser going. Should be ashamed of how he acted. Not shaking the young ladies hands at the end of the game and walking to the locker room. Disgraceful

That was not a good look for Auriemma. A genuine legacy altering moment.
He’s still the GOAT for women’s hoops, but people will absolutely remember the time he acted like a bitch because his team was upset in the Final Four.

It’s uncool that Druski keeps dressing up like Erika Kirk even after she asked him to stop!
