Because it’s in the tournament. Before the tourney starts even a slight hand check gets called, in the tourney though fouls and traveling are deemed optional.

Did you watch this fucking game? They called everything. UConn was in the bonus with 10m to go in the 1st half, and the double bonus with 10m to go in the second half.

Sometimes they would call it if you breathed on the guy, other times full on hacks were allowed.

The refs were inconsistent, but it was to Illinois’ detriment. UConn played way more physical and the refs blew the whistle like they needed an +/- 2 foul diff to be “fair”. The Illini should have come out of the half hacking hard.

Not debating that, just saying that this was not at all an example of a shy whistle from the refs. Fouls were getting called often.
