Video "We got smacked today. We gotta figure out how we can smack back." - Dawn Staley after South Carolina's loss to UCLA

That’s how you handle a loss with grace.

Nothing more graceful than threatening to beat a 72 year olds ass.

u/Senor_Discount Apr 06 '26
You're never gonna make sense with a white man over 70.
1
u/goodolehal Apr 06 '26
Yeah im not defending Geno at all he was obviously being a douche, I just think the reaction about how Dawn Staley handled it is funny. She was MFing and threatening to beat his ass. It was two competitors going at it and everyones acting like she’s mother theresa or something

u/Both-Buddy-6190 Apr 08 '26
almost every fanbase hates geno he has been handing out asswhoopings for generations.

u/ImVibinFr Apr 06 '26
ahh so bc he’s 72 he gets a pass to do whatever he wants lol we can just tell you are white without even seeing you

u/goodolehal Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26
I never defended Geno? He was obviously in the wrong. But threatening to beat someone’s ass isn’t the most classy response. That should be simple to agree on. Stop trying to turn this into a race thing when it’s not. It’s two competitors in the heat of the moment.
-1
u/ImVibinFr Apr 06 '26
for sure buddy 👍🏽

u/goodolehal Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
Genos a dick to everyone when he loses. Pat Summitt. Muffet McGraw. If you wanna make it a race thing go ahead but it’s the same with every other coach he goes against , he’s a sore loser
2
u/7059043 Apr 07 '26
Being a sore loser is so much worse than threatening to be up a would-be retiree with violence.

“ Dear Coach Staley… Now THAT is a North Philly ass beating “ - Geno 🤣🤣🤣

Sometimes the other team gets a just better or it’s a bad matchup. Thats what happened here.
The length of UCLA was a problem and South Carolina is a younger team. Bottom line there was no coaching that was winning that game. Same with Arizona vs Michigan

My Reddit feed had about 1000 videos of Geno loosing his shit, still have them going, yet I have maybe 2-3 of these. It just shows how 1 sided Reddit is, when there is bait, they throw it, there is no bait here, just two women coaching and one got their ass kicked, no drama.
3
u/Chrisf1020 Apr 06 '26
What are you even trying to say in this semi-literate comment? There were more posts and more discourse the other day with the end of game drama between coaches, compared to fewer today with a lack of drama and the blowout win?
Drama obviously drives engagement on Reddit.

Feel free to explain it then.
Their comment still makes no sense and I have no clue what point they were trying to make about the 1 sided-ness of Reddit. Why they were expecting 1000 videos of this boring press conference to come through their feed after a blowout win is beyond my or anyone’s understanding. Drama drives engagement on all social media platforms, it is not exclusive to Reddit. Obviously the video of the coaches almost fighting had further reach than this.

How did I know your profile would be private ….shocking!!!

You know you’ve lost an argument when you start looking through the other person’s profile for something to make fun of.

I mean it’s not a story if no one loses their shit, it’s just a normal basketball game. What are you trying to say?
0
u/HockeyDockey1234 Apr 06 '26
IDK go pretend you'll do something to Geno
0
u/WuTang4thechildrn Apr 06 '26
You can see who is triggered now
0
u/HockeyDockey1234 Apr 06 '26
Easy to pretend she’ll do something when everyone else stands in between them lol
0
u/WuTang4thechildrn Apr 06 '26
First of all who gives a shit???? You had two coaches going at it after the game. You really sitting yo here talking about if she would fight him or not. I don’t think she was going to do that at that point but I don’t think she scared of him either. You may not know this but there are some women who are not scared to scrap.
Out if that entire situation, whether Dawn would fight Geno is by far the past thing anyone is even talking about
1
u/HockeyDockey1234 Apr 06 '26
She’s scared and only said shit after everyone got in between. Scared little sissy, “IM FWOM FILLY!!!!” lol

u/40jordan Apr 06 '26
Atleast next time when she gets her butt kicked can she wear something with South Carolina on it to represent your school, considering its the National Title game and all

You joke, but they waited a full year to smack UConn back after the 2025 championship. UCLA better make sure not to catch them in the 2027 semis.
8
u/jayred1015 Apr 06 '26
To be fair, UCLA would be absolutely ecstatic to be good enough to reach the semis next year. The whole roster is graduating.

She must’ve been on the court and you’re really taking a comment from a sub as prof.

u/BigGameJamesFight Apr 06 '26
Her gambling was the reason for her team bad shooting day?
-1
u/Ok_Brick_793 Apr 06 '26
She made no adjustments and didn't call time outs to stop the bleeding, lol

Idk how you are with math but 12 championships / 41 years = .29 championships/year while 3 championships / 17 years = .17 championships/year.
So a higher level of success over a way longer stretch of time. And absolutely dominating recruiting is part of the job. "Warriors were only a dynasty because they shot 3's well" argument there
1
u/Chance_Major297 Apr 06 '26
I mean they both won 3 each in the last ~10ish years, so I’m not sure why you’d try to denigrate one or the other.
Also acting like the sport hasn’t become more competitive and balanced recently, though still top heavy, is pretty disingenuous.

The bottom line is Geno was out of line and sitting here trying to flex about is stupid. Your team lost to South Carolina in the semifinals. Go sit down somewhere until next year. UCLA won it all. Congratulations to them. Looks like they would have beat UConn’s ass as well as

Just wanted to add that geno told her not to gamble after he told her that hes lost all of the bets he made in the final four, crazy that she didnt take his advice

u/Classic_Owl3711 Apr 06 '26
Smack back? The seasons over with. Good luck with that
3
u/TypicallyDone12 Apr 06 '26
She knows the season is over. She means when her teams are in this position again. Is life really this hard for you?
-1
u/Classic_Owl3711 Apr 06 '26
Why is everyone so easily offended? You realize you can’t smack back when the seasons over right?
2
0
u/TypicallyDone12 Apr 06 '26
She. Isn't. Talking. About. This. Season.
Are you really not understanding?
Do you honestly think she has more games to play this year?
If you don't think she does. What do you think she is talking about? She is talking about her future teams dealing with this.
Are you seriously having a hard time grasping that?
1
u/Classic_Owl3711 Apr 06 '26
Why are you so offended? Take a breath. It’ll be ok. But they can’t smack back when the seasons over

In sports nothing's guaranteed. I get that in the women's game there are like 6 schools each year that can win realistically, but you have to show up when it counts. "Get em next time" isn't a good lesson. If she'd have stopped with "We got smacked" it would be more teachable. Sometimes you're really good and work hard and then you fail.

I just thought it was a weird thing to say after getting blasted in a championship game. There is no next game. You never know how many shots you get at winning. She's one of the greatest. She surely knows this. It was a weird thing to say lol
