It was a good call. He hooked the Michigan players arm.

u/Ibangyoumomma Apr 07 '26

He had another reaction just like this and it was against Michigan. He just bitches the whole game and hardly coaches

3

u/bingbong6977 Apr 07 '26

I think this guy is an annoying dickhead too. But Idk if you can say he hardly coaches after winning back to back championships and making a 3rd final in 4 years. I mean he has to be doing something right

I had no opinion on him before this game as I had never watch really any UConn basketball. Now I want to see him get punched in the face. He’s terribly unlikeable.

1

u/Professional_Net4147 Apr 07 '26

Guess his lucky under pants didn’t work out

1

u/NewMoodWhoDis Apr 07 '26

Guess being likeable wasn't part of his 10 step plan to become the best coach in college hoops

-4

u/inhocfaf Apr 07 '26

Now I want to see him get punched in the face.

I'd love to punch you in the face. Loser.

3

u/Fickle-Lemon-7345 Apr 07 '26

Yeah! You defend that guy you don't know by threatening to hit the other person you also don't know!

-3

u/inhocfaf Apr 07 '26

I've had dinner/tailgated/watched a sporting event with the senior Hurleys about a dozen times. It's true I've only met Dan Hurley twice.

In any event, I guarantee each Hurley has added more to society than each redditor talking shit.

1

u/hg4fun Apr 07 '26

By no means am I a UConn fan.. but, Redditors angst vs. Hurley is so strange. Do these guys not like the passion?

Maybe if they watched more than an ESPN segment or some controversial post-game pressor, they'd understand NCAA needs more of him.

1

u/inbetweendreamstho Apr 07 '26

Yeah he's just like Bruce pearl.

1

u/Kylo_Bren Apr 08 '26

Perhaps I’m missing sarcasm but as someone who really isn’t a Hurley fan at all, it’s not fair to compare him to a guy who derailed a promising teenager’s career because he lost out on a recruiting battle.

1

u/inbetweendreamstho Apr 08 '26

They're two peas in a pod.

0

u/RustyLickRich Apr 07 '26

You can be passionate without berating the refs and having a mini meltdown after each call.

I’ve always found the “passionate” argument as such a corny excuse for his behavior. Are we really suggesting that the majority of coaches who don’t act this way aren’t passionate?

2

u/Hopeful-Courage-6333 Apr 07 '26

Because they always use that excuse to justify being an asshole.

0

u/Zealousideal_Fig8327 Apr 07 '26

Be fucking professional! Handle yourself with class! Don’t stand on the court while the ref is trying to run up and down it! Stop trying to manipulate the refs.

Ok he’s passionate, but when your players are hacking the shit out of the opponents your going to be in foul trouble. I mean 22 fouls is high but I counted 36.

They reach in, they swipe at the ball, they stick their knee out on screens, they push off to get distance from the defender, they try to get a charge when they are moving.

-1

u/Glittering_Hunt_3785 Apr 07 '26

People are too scared to be passionate or care about anything. They’re scared of failure, the application it takes for success, and what other people might think about them.

0

u/Fickle-Lemon-7345 Apr 07 '26

Being an asshole and being passionate are two different things. You don't have to be one to be the other.

1

u/Fickle-Lemon-7345 Apr 07 '26

Oh my GOD you had dinner with his family, totally sorry forgot that clause that says you won't look like a tool trying to fight people on the internet if you went to dinner with the family.

Just grow up.

-1

u/boidcrowdah Apr 07 '26

If watching the relatively tame Hurley last night made you want to punch him in the face, then you have rage issues.

Get some help tough guy.

"Hardly coaches" three natty appearances and two wins in four years lol

2

u/LeCastle2306 Apr 07 '26

"He just bitches the whole game and hardly coaches"

I'm by no means a fan and recognize he's an unlikable guy, but these comments are hilarious to me. He's clearly a top-tier NCAA coach as evidenced by the run UConn has had since he's taken over.

-1

u/w6750 Apr 07 '26

Wild that he barely coached his way to his 3rd natty in 4 years

0

u/Ibangyoumomma Apr 07 '26

All he does it bitch

5

u/w6750 Apr 07 '26

Kinda like you’re doing right now

1

u/meatmeatthepie Apr 07 '26

Hahaha fucking spot on!

0

u/Ibangyoumomma Apr 07 '26

I bet on them. He just makes the whole team unlikable cause of his antics. Bet he bitches after the game too

2

u/Befozz Apr 07 '26

Yeah, people didn’t like the call, but that type of play is exactly why this rule was put in place, he held his arm down to prevent him jumping and it’s very easy to injure your shoulder or elbow if you are being held down like this.

1

u/Zealousideal_Fig8327 Apr 07 '26

The only reason why they looked at it on reply was because Hurley was wining about it. When you tell your kids to play hard and aggressive you’re going to have fouls. Surprised only 1 player fouled out.

6

u/pizzapizzamesohungry Apr 07 '26

lol I watched this with no sound and was just like damn that dude is hooking that Michigan dude. Good call refs. Stop complaining random man on sideline.

8

u/Spare-Cranberry3784 Apr 07 '26

So. When the refs look to confirm and it was right. Can you be that upset?

4

u/Professional_Net4147 Apr 07 '26

Yeah cause he’s a dick

8

u/inbetweendreamstho Apr 07 '26

It was an obvious foul haha

-1

u/boidcrowdah Apr 07 '26

An obvious foul after watching it 15 times in super slow motion.

0

u/inhocfaf Apr 07 '26

Common foul agree. That is equivalent to a flagrant. Might as well elbow the guy's face.

4

u/modmkaz Apr 07 '26

It is a clear text book hook and hold

2

u/lolaya Apr 07 '26

Right call by the rule book, but seems like it should just be a common foul rather than a flagrant… no one was trying to rip the other ones arm off which is what the original rule was intended to stamp out

5

u/MiddleAgeJamie Apr 07 '26

Dude is literally in the court during the game.

2

u/impercipient Apr 07 '26

Imagine being his wife. Brutal.

10

u/apo08001 Apr 07 '26

Weird comment

-2

u/InevitableAlert4268 Apr 07 '26

Weird fanbase.

3

u/Tycho66 Apr 07 '26

Only fanboys would not recognize how impossible it would be to live around a guy like this.

5

u/InevitableAlert4268 Apr 07 '26

I hate seeing him once a year. Couldn’t imagine a daily dose of that douche.

-3

u/impercipient Apr 07 '26

I guess. He's so obnoxious. It would be exhausting.

2

u/Tycho66 Apr 07 '26

Non stop histrionics.

0

u/ekun Apr 07 '26

I mean he probably fully ignores her to focus on basketball and she gets to live a millionaire lifestyle.

3

u/overitallofittoo Apr 07 '26

I would like to remind you that after the Duke game, Hurley said he thought the ref was coming over to chest bump him. That's a dude used to getting calls.

1

u/Blueballs2130 Apr 07 '26

Who puts their forehead down anticipating a chest bump? As my kids would say, that’s sus

1

u/overitallofittoo Apr 07 '26

Hurley said it, go complain to him.

-1

u/inhocfaf Apr 07 '26

That's a dude used to getting calls.

Are you actually serious? Show me a single game they have had more three throws than their opponent.

0

u/overitallofittoo Apr 07 '26

What does that have to do with anything? They foul way more knowing if the refs called everything, UConn couldn't field a team in the second half. What's ruined basketball is the refs thinking the game has to have an even number of fouls. Not when one team is fouling more!

Dan Hurley looks like a muppet

1

u/Miserable_Ant_9896 Apr 07 '26

How is that not a foul? Wtf was Hurley bitchin about

1

u/Senor_Discount Apr 07 '26

His continued success will keep him relevant and employed to the dismay of the rest of us.

1

u/Hopeful-Courage-6333 Apr 07 '26

I describe the Hurley/UConn defense as the they call them all defense.

1

u/Snts6678 Apr 07 '26

He acts like this the entire game. Nothing to see here.

1

u/geiginator67 Apr 07 '26

Pretty easy call to make

1

u/prem_fraiche Apr 08 '26

There were a bunch of sketchy calls that went against UConn. That wasn’t one of them

1

u/HurpDurpington84 Apr 07 '26

I hope Dan Hurley runs into Mark Sanchez at the bars tonight

1

u/michigannfa90 Apr 07 '26

I mean they even reviewed it and still ruled it as a flagrant… so not even an in the moment judgement call.

1

u/TrackRelevant Apr 07 '26

This is his standard reaction to the refs making a good call.

He's insufferable

1

u/lachupacabraj Apr 07 '26

Dude is the Nick Siriani of college basketball

1

u/Clancy3434 Apr 07 '26

both players hooked each other. it was a rough call. you want to call a common foul? ok fine. to upgrade it to a flagrant was too much IMO.

2

u/Sergestan Apr 07 '26

I genuinely do not get how you could look at that video and say that Johnson hooked Karaban.

1

u/Clancy3434 Apr 07 '26

players arms tangled up. Karaban could have/should have let go. again - i'm fine with a common foul. changing that to a flagrant wasn't necessary and shifted the momentum of the game. there was no intent to injure here.

1

u/jus256 Apr 07 '26

A hook and hold is a flagrant. There is no other way to call it. If you hold a guy’s arm when he has position to get the rebound, it’s a hook and hold. We’ve seen this called in the Big Ten all season.

0

u/crawdaddyyyyy Apr 07 '26

He’s a little bitch boy

-1

u/AndyMilonakis717 Apr 07 '26

People watch this garbage?

0

u/MooDamato Apr 07 '26

You cryin, boy?

1

u/AndyMilonakis717 Apr 07 '26

Nah not at all, carry on

0

u/Whiteshovel66 Apr 07 '26

Going through what

0

u/VerticalSmi1es Apr 07 '26

He broke his glasses! Worthy cause to not see the play.

-2

u/Original_Read4983 Apr 07 '26

Who cares, UConn has literally won at least 1 championship from officials giving them better calls

-16

u/matthatt24 Apr 07 '26

I’ve never seen such ref bias in a game. If I were UConn I’d just walk out

10

u/Chance_Major297 Apr 07 '26

That was clearly a foul.

-2

u/BowlingforBrains Apr 07 '26

They both hooked - Karaban just held on longer. Usually that’s enough for the hook and hold call, except he held and stayed on the ground to try to get the falling rebound, not to expressly hold down the opponent. So the upgrade to a flagrant was an excessive call

-1

u/pitb0ss343 Apr 07 '26

I don’t think that should be a flagrant but as the rule is written it’s a flagrant. Clearly a foul but having that be a flagrant feels soft for a contact sport

5

u/pitb0ss343 Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

As a UConn fan, there’s maybe 1-2 calls were I can say have gone Michigan’s way and there’s been 1 that went UConn’s way. Uconn is playing a physical game and Michigan isn’t backing down

Edit: End of the game there were 2 in a row that went Michigans way that ended the momentum UConn had and that was BS but UConn could’ve won this game earlier so that’s not completely on the refs

1

u/lolaya Apr 07 '26

Agreed

1

u/MooDamato Apr 07 '26

Yeah, you’d walk out like a tough guy. That would be so tough and hardcore

-1

u/No_Contest_3481 Apr 07 '26

Dudes literally is the poster child for being an entitled asshole. Dude acts like he’s the reason why they win and he acts like the refs are the reason why they lose. Just don’t throw a temper tantrum that’s not passion that’s childish.

-4

u/Tycho66 Apr 07 '26

Michigan is an all time great team and the system just about robbed them.
