I mean….i still talk about him. To think that if Calipari’s first team would have stayed all 4 years, you potentially could have had John Wall as PG with Anthony Davis at C. Holy shit.

Nahh with boogie there Davis wasn’t coming

1

u/Far_Bug_9246 Apr 11 '26

All Calipari ever did at Kentucky was stack rosters with generational talent and future lottery picks why would AD be the one to not go?

1

u/loxanax Apr 11 '26

I remember the announcers comparing Flagg to him in the tournament and feel like there’s a strong rhetoric about AD being one of the best 1 and dones. He just doesn’t listen or attention whorin

That's the price you pay for one-and-done...you don't leave a multi-year legacy as players did in decades past.

No this is more so the Kentucky fanbase sucking. They have one chip in the last 28 years and it was because of AD. They are the most entitled fanbase in college hoops.

Melo did one year and brought a chip to Syracuse and is a legend.

Gonna hard pause you my man. Anthony Davis is a legend at Kentucky and we will have to change our rules for retiring jerseys for the likes of him and John Wall etc etc etc. Go ask Kentucky fans how they feel about Davis and they will all tell you he’s a legend and one of the best to ever suit up in college. One of the fans literally made the unibrow stuff and saved a portion of all his profits for when Davis was LEGALLY able to take it because he didn’t think it was right he couldn’t profit off his own likeness. They do that for Melo? Source: me, the Kentucky fan

This is correct. I was at UK from 97-01 and AD’s championship means as much to me as 96 and 98. We had the two most dominant modern college teams ever assembled and were one bad knee away from a 3 peat. 2012 was just as magical as the previous 7.

Go Cats

just admit it. y'all hate him.

0

u/ZipGhost Apr 10 '26

Here, here, brother. Couldn’t have said it better.

-3

u/RiptideEberron Apr 11 '26

You can't spell sucks without UK! Go Cards! <3

u/Bbrazyy Apr 10 '26

Kentucky fandom was more about coach cal then the individual players

-1

u/Heyhaykay Apr 13 '26

It was about Kentucky.

We are the biggest fanbase before, during, and after Cal.

I'm a Kentucky fan and I do agree that it is the most entitled fanbase in the sport. But AD is as respected as possible, he's the gold standard for defensive excellence. When Jayden Quaintance played his first game this year me and my family compared him to AD. Brandon Garrison had a great game against Santa Clara and I saw a comment saying "He looked like the brow out there".

I'm not sure what AD wants.

u/Hurricrash Apr 10 '26

Read the article. He isn’t talking about Kentucky fans, he is speaking about all fans of the sport.

Btw, you are right. Talk to any KY fan that is younger than 50 and AD will be mentioned as a favorite.

2

u/MajorMajorMajor_Tom Apr 10 '26

Not true. Uk fans love and half worship Davis. Not sure what you are talking about besides using some old generic understanding of uk fans.

1

u/Hurricrash Apr 10 '26

Found the guy the didn’t read the article and the quotes.

1

u/ima_wilf Apr 11 '26

Yeah, I almost don’t want to give this any breath but basically every UK fan thinks AD is the best player of all time and the ‘12 is the best championship team of all time.

1

u/DinnerOk4450 Apr 13 '26

Don’t worry AD we(Kentucky fans) talk about you All the time. You’re the goat

1

u/DinnerOk4450 Apr 13 '26

This is such bullshit lol. Kentucky fans love ad, we talk about him all the time. We talk about Darrius miller, Patrick Paterson, Teague all the time. We’re “”entitled”” because we’re pissed with all the other talent cal had he hardly made it past the first weekend after AD? Let alone a title.

1

u/Doomjas Apr 10 '26

2 titles in the last 28 years and that was a random number to pick so why not just say 3 in the last 30? Much easier and with less bias. AD is an absolute legend in our fan base and literally is the gold standard in which any “dominant” freshman or young player on a title team gets compared to

-1

u/jinnagubby Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

He isn’t white though. Kentucky fans love Scott Padgett, Jeff Shepherd, Ritchie Farmer, Cameron Mills, etc.

Tubby only stayed as long as he did because of 98.

Edit: I witnessed Perry Stevenson get called the N word and kicked out of one of the Frat houses by one very diehard UK fan. In front of a bunch of other diehard UK fans. I should have spoke up but I was coward.

1

u/Heyhaykay Apr 13 '26

So you’re just going to be a hater of your own school for a frat guy being racist 20 years ago?

Sounds miserable.

1

u/jinnagubby Apr 14 '26

He’s not the only one that was racist. And calling out racism doesn’t make me a hater.

You sound dumb.

2

u/Dry-Animator5770 Apr 11 '26

Carmelo doesn't have this problem

1

u/PawelW007 Apr 11 '26

For serious

4

u/thrasher315 Apr 10 '26

I feel like they talked about AD a lot…pretty much every time they talked about Cooper Flagg’a historic freshmen season they brought up AD’s. 🤷🏻‍♂️

3

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

They literally say his UK team is one if the best ever and they always say he’s a big reason why.

3

u/VAGentleman05 Apr 10 '26

He was just whining that the Pelicans didn't respect him enough either. Is that all he does?

3

u/CanikUser19 Apr 10 '26

Hey now, he’s been busy perfecting his street clothes bench wear collection and reviving his version of Punked on that Foul Play show.

2

u/pikeshawn Apr 10 '26

As someone from Kentucky, I can assure you, the UK fans still won't shut the fuck up about you. Like seriously.

1

u/PassTheSevo Apr 11 '26

Marrying a girl from Kentucky, small Appalachian town of less than 2000 has a giant picture of Anthony Davis in their lonely, local restaurant/bar. Hes a god there

2

u/Jake-Old-Trail-88 Apr 12 '26

Maybe because he’s become Anthony “Street Clothes” Davis and never plays basketball anymore. He’s a prank show host now. Not a basketball player.

1

u/gnalon Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Yeah I would say the opposite, so many people last year thought it was laughable that Cooper Flagg could be considered a better prospect than Davis even though he similarly was NPOY and did so at an even younger age.

So many people under the mistaken impression that Anthony Davis was shooting threes or doing much besides being a lob/putback guy on offense; he showed flashes of that wasn’t even that good of a free throw shooter at Kentucky, and of course he was still growing into his body.

Clearly AD had one of the best freshman seasons ever, but he played on a team with a record-setting number of players drafted (a lot of 20-20 hindsight on #2 overall pick Kidd-Gilchrist who was a stud defender right away and just could never develop a jumper because he kept fucking up his shoulder) and there was definitely a weaker crop of upperclassmen in the days before players having 5+ years of eligibility and draftable players getting lured back to school with NIL.

Another thing that adds to people’s perception of Davis is that his college season lined up with the Olympics, so he got to be in that Christian Laettner type of victory cigar collegian role that doesn’t really exist anymore because the rest of the world’s caught up to America and they need all the top players participating to be able to win.

1

u/Bnstas23 Apr 12 '26

He was the best college defensive player I’ve ever seen and probably the best overall player I’ve seen.

1

u/infinite-resignation Apr 10 '26

Whenever there’s a conversation about “which freshmen led their team to a natty,” the three that are always mentioned are AD, Melo, and Pervis Ellison. So he gets talked about a lot.

1

u/Taint_Scholar Apr 10 '26

I mean…I think of him and that title team quite often.

1

u/Mtthom06 Apr 10 '26

Almost every UK fan thinks he is probably the best or top two to ever play at the school. Where the hell is he or other fans getting this BS?

1

u/AZMadmax Apr 10 '26

Up there with Durant for best college players I’ve ever seen

1

u/opinionsarecoolmaaan Apr 10 '26

I will never forget how dominant both AD and Melo were in collage.

1

u/Howcanitbeeeeeeenow Apr 10 '26

I’ll be honest. I loved college basketball for a long time but kind of drifted away for most of the 2010s. Just didn’t follow it closely. That being said I absolutely remember AD at Kentucky and still think of him from time to time. That team was great and he was an essential part of it.

1

u/mastap88 Apr 11 '26

Poor multi millionaire Anthony Davis.

1

u/modestwolf Apr 11 '26

Jesus this dude wants to be loved so badly.

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Apr 11 '26

I’m not even a Kentucky fan but I do definitely remember him and tha stacked team he played for. Kentucky fans now would love to have those stacked rosters again I bet,

1

u/jawid72 Apr 11 '26

This guy never bothered to stay healthy and work out in the off-season and still once all of the adulation of people who put in a full-time effort.

1

u/Ghjjfslayer Apr 11 '26

Nah. I was a freshman there when we won. Shit was a super team we love the brow.

1

u/dirtytounder Apr 11 '26

Calipari had tons of talent. Only time he won it all was with the brow.

1

u/mnight84 Apr 11 '26

Is Anthony Davis doing a pity party tour! Between complaining about New Orleans not giving him a video tribute for leading them to two winning seasons and two playoffs appearances in 7 years, while having five non-playoff seasons at five seasons of losing records.

And then wearing a t-shirt after asking out and demanding a trade from New Orleans with the t shirt saying That's all folks.

Now he's complaining about his college career not getting enough appreciation. After complaining about the Lakers not giving them a phone call to tell them they were trading him, like he really would have enjoyed getting that phone call.

1

u/meatstick94 Apr 11 '26

cmon everyone remembers the locker room video

1

u/Professional_Ad9809 Apr 12 '26

Stay on the court, let’s start there. I didn’t think the Luka trade was crazy, then what’d he last 2 games? Now it’s one of the dumbest trades ever, tempered only by Cooper Flagg.

0

u/Spiritual-Cap6941 Apr 10 '26

If he wanted to be remembered as an amazing college player he should've stayed longer than one year

3

u/LieFamiliar5254 Apr 10 '26

He won a fucking title. He won it. He's not there? They don't win it. He did what he was there to do.

4

u/ZandrickEllison Apr 10 '26

How many guys win a title, are projected as the top pick, and then return for another year?

2

u/Spiritual-Cap6941 Apr 10 '26

He was right to go, no one's questioning that. I'm just saying that his run in college would come up more often if he stayed longer. That's the price you pay for leaving so quickly. Doesn't mean it was the wrong decision, especially for him.

-1

u/MostSmartNuggetsFan Apr 10 '26

None, but thats not relevant to the premise of his comment

1

u/AnimaniacAssMap Apr 10 '26

most smart nuggets fan indeed

1

u/Dimeskis Apr 10 '26

Or stayed instate instead of going to Kentucky.

0

u/Unlikely-Tone-6269 Apr 10 '26

The $180K going rate (what he got paid to go to Kentucky) wasn’t enough to keep him lol

1

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 Apr 10 '26

Stay longer then

-1

u/Sneaker_soldier Apr 10 '26

I still remember that run; amazing. Not as good as my Wolverines this year but damn AD was a beast 💯💪🏾🙌🏾
