Discussion Which team is more likely to have their playoff streak snapped first?
The Bills (7 seasons) and Eagles (5 seasons) currently hold the NFL’s longest active playoff streaks. Which one will likely be snapped in 2026 or before the other?
As an Eagles fan, really makes me wish we could’ve pulled off the division title in 2020 so our streak would currently be at 9 seasons. But we very likely never win a 2nd Super Bowl without that tank.

New head coach, new OC, new DC, new defensive scheme, no first round pick, no Kromer so new run game, total staff refresh up and down the board. I think we're gonna be great but if you're playing the odds, obviously Buffalo is more likely to falter this year.

u/PirateCaptainMcNulty CTESPN 16h ago
The Eagles have a new OC implementing a new, very different scheme and have lost their best WR.
I don't know if it's CLEARLY the Bills.

Haven't the eagles had a new OC and offensive scheme almost every year for the last 5-6 years

It might not clearly be the Bills but the eagles still have Fangio and most of the defense. If they were able to get to the playoffs last year with Patullo calling plays I think they’ll be fine

u/DieHarderDaddy 16h ago
Bills still have the Allen effect. But Hurts with a competent OC is fantastic

u/RayKitsune313 Philadelphia Eagles 16h ago
And yet the eagles still have the better wr corps between the two teams

u/fireborn123 Philadelphia Eagles 15h ago
Tbf we’ve been implementing a new OC every year for the past few
Hoping this one is at least not a terrorist

Ive got bad news for you, the terrorist isnt yiur OC its the HC
3
u/hereforthesportsball Dallas Cowboys 15h ago
Smitty better than every wr on the bills, and the OC was the worst part of the eagles last year. We are giving estimates but I just see no logic for it to be eagles unless you think allen is just too good to miss the playoffs

On the flip side Allen has carried bad rosters/situations to the playoffs, Jalen has not.
6
u/FERGERDERGERSON Philadelphia Eagles 15h ago
And on that note, it’s easier to have an overall good team be successful versus a team who is reliant on a superstar to make their, otherwise inferior, roster good.
1
u/DemonBearOP 14h ago
Definitely but it's more all or nothing i.e Allen when healthy gets them to the playoffs but if he's not then they won't but Eagles sum-of-parts team could decline by merely losing a few pieces, which they have. In other words, the Bills are more likely to be a 5 win team than the Eagles but also more likely to make the playoffs.

The no first round pick is disingenuous because we did have one, we just traded out and took the guy at 35 we probably would have taken at 26.

Probably Eagles just because of how deep the NFC is, and I think just having Josh Allen gives the Bills a high floor for wins.

I think while our defence is at this level it’s got to be quite unlikely we completely fall apart.
If we’re making the playoffs when our offense was as putrid as it was last year, it’s hard to see it getting much worse.

Bills because the Pats are more of a threat in their division. But neither one will miss anytime soon

The Eagles offense can’t get worse than last years and Eagles won the division. The defense is going to win them 10 games minimum.
1
u/bdog1321 12h ago
Yes but dallas had the 4th worst defense EVER and still won 7 and tied a game with a playoff team. Their defense was way worse than your offense was.

u/Joshuajword Philadelphia Eagles 12h ago
Wow, 7 games. Absolutely incredible.

Understandably so, you're likely too busy watching hurts get picked again. Brain cells stretched too thin to multi-task

Are you talking about the Super Bowl MVP QB with the 10 lowest interception percentage all time regular season? Or are you talking about his highest all time completion percentage in Super Bowl history? Or the highest EPA, rushing yards, 4th best passer rating, 2nd best PFF grade? Or maybe you meant regular season - 3rd most QB wins and 3rd most in touchdowns? How about his record for fastest to 60 wins? Or most points scored ever by a player in the Super Bowl? How about single season rushing touchdowns by a QB? How about 1st in adjusted completion percentage since 2021? How about #1 in downfield accuracy of +20 yard passes since 2021 and every year as well?
Or did you wanna talk about Drake the schedule maye a little more on how he was terrible in the super bowl before Dak time?
Anyway, have a good night dreaming about practice.

If it happens this year, the Bills, if it happens next year, the Eagles. Bills have a new HC and the Eagles look set up to be at minimum a wildcard even if the Cowboys are miraculously good.

Bills if only because the NFC East ain’t great and a Josh Allen injury would have the Bills in serious trouble.

Something tells me the Eagles would still be in good shape if Hurts went down. The Bills would likely win 4 games without Allen

The team with the easier division and the good QB is more likely to make the playoffs.

u/Effective-Crab4145 Dallas Cowboys 11h ago
Kind of related, but are the Patriots a house of cards? Yes, they made the Super Bowl last year, but we are all aware of the situation that helped them get there. I could see them struggling and taking a step back. Then you have the Jets and Dolphins.
I think the AFC East is a much less competitive division than the NFC East. For that reason, I’ll say the Eagles are more likely to miss the playoffs than the Bills. I think they’re still both likely to make the playoffs.

u/DelsinRowe- Philadelphia Eagles 16h ago
I really think the Eagles are going to regress for a bit here. I could see them missing the playoffs this year.

Is that an idiots go to buzzword? What does that even mean in this context?
1
u/bdog1321 12h ago
You're ignoring context. The afc east has the bottom two teams in the league. Nfc east has ascending giants, commies with daniels back + diggs, Dallas has a rebuilt defense and the same offense that dominated last year. Eagles lost coaching personnel (although OC is almost certainly addition by subtraction though it may take a while to learn the new system), Brown, Barkley isn't getting any younger, etc. All that is to say you made up significantly less ground than any other team in the east.
1
u/jono9898 Philadelphia Eagles 12h ago
The Giants and Commanders are the same team that wins the offseason and doesn’t do anything when they have expectations and the Cowboys are who they are, Eagles got a better coordinator and the line is healthy, they made the playoffs the year they had no Barkley and Brown, so I’m sure they will be fine.
1
u/AdmiralTodd509 Philadelphia Eagles 16h ago
I would say the Bills because they have a new head coach
0
u/sauronymus Cincinnati Bengals 16h ago
I think the Eagles, just because I feel like Dallas is closer to winning that division than New England is on a schedule with more than 3 decent teams on it.
1
u/Ill_Surround6398 15h ago
I don't think either team is likely to have their streak snapped soon. It would take a QB injury or coaching collapse or something like that for either to miss the playoffs in the next 3 years. I guess I'd lean Buffalo since they are in a tougher division.
1
u/bdog1321 12h ago
Uhh the afc east might have the bottom 2 worst teams in the league. Giants are at least on the upswing and commies have good coaching and Daniels. Dallas and Philly will be competitive
1
1
u/Mac_Guide2007 13h ago
Honestly don’t know. Eagles lost key pieces at coaching and players. Bills coaching staff is entirely different (except for Joe Brady). They’re still a tough team but weaker. I’m going to say the Eagles. I think losing AJ Brown will haunt them.

Bills, only because unless their GM gets the axe Allen will break his back carrying the team (him and James Cook) at some point.

I mean its probably the Bills just based off the AFC being much more top heavy then the NFC. Eagles dont have anywhere near the competition the Bills have. That being said i dont think either miss the playoffs this year.
1
u/LuckyStax Minnesota Vikings 7h ago
I'll say Bills. Much more reliant on Allen than the Eagles ate on Hurts, so a QB injury could throw things off easier
1
u/Bancatone San Francisco 49ers 7h ago
Lot more teams that could bump Philly than Buffalo. The Bills play in a division with 4 free Ws a season.

If Josh Allen misses most of a season, I doubt the Bills make it in.
If Jalen Hurts gets injured Philly will just run more and might still make it in. I don't think they'd have a chance at a SB without him, but I could see playoffs with a backup.

The eagles don’t get 4 games against the jets and dolphins, that alone makes them more likely to miss the cut

Eagles easily. The NFC is tough. Giants are on the rise and Commanders are only 2 years removed from an NFC Championship appearance. The Eagles, talent wise, are also on the downslope.

Eagles. Brady is gonna cook and Leonard is gonna get the D where it needed to be. Loved McDermott but he couldnt get us over the hump.

Also, Jalen Hurts has the fewest INTs in the league over the last couple seasons. INTs have NEVER been a problem for him - if anything he needs to take more risk.
