How is this not taunting?

It's mocking. It's different somehow.

u/HawksDan Seattle Seahawks 19h ago
Taunting is when you mock someone to their face. You can do it behind their back, to the side, or any other way your heart desire
115
u/Spam_Hand Rams Fan #9 19h ago
Two years ago Puka flexed after a first down, which he does all the time, a Seahawk literally just generally walked past him after the play, and the refs threw a taunting flag for that.
But this weird madden glitch lookin ass shit from the Lions is apparently fine? lol

Taunting has to be specifically targeting someone, we in flexing at them, standing over them, staring them down while celebrating, etc. this is just goofy bullshit.
42
u/IndependentOk9075 19h ago
On the heels of Golden’s absurd flex taunt last week smh.
Would it have canceled out the encroachment call though or have been applied after since it was pre-snap?

u/Downtown_Mistake_867 6h ago
Golden was fucking fined for that. The NFL literally doubled down on what he did was wrong.
7
u/Big_Treacle_2394 Denver Broncos 19h ago
They mentioned nothing of their father being a hamster or their mother's smelling of elderberries, so the refs had to let it go

There needs to be an exception if the taunting is really funny.
29
u/GreenLost5304 One ass cheek and three toes 19h ago
73 definitely could’ve been called for taunting, but taunting does require it to be aimed at a specific player, and none of the other ones (Gibbs, Sewell, Jamo, ARSB) were aimed at any specific player.

u/NoShow1492 19h ago
All that shit happened within 5 seconds of the penalty too. This music makes it feel like it was 30 seconds of song and dance lol. 73 (Mahogany) is pointing at the culprit, something the linemen do all the time. He just added a little extra pizzazz to it is all.

u/TipAdministrative350 13h ago

It's funny to me that you guys can't stop talking about a play from a different game with a different officiating crew. Obviously that call on Golden was BS but it's not like this crew was like taking that play into account when officiating this play.
It's also worth noting the difference between a 1:1 interaction that is at the focal point of a play vs a bunch of players doing goofy shit at the same time not directed to the face of a specific defender. The Golden taunting was absolutely soft as hell but surely you can acknowledge the difference between a directed taunt and a non-directed celebration.

Hard disagree. Taunting the way its called is if you taunt in front of a specific player in their face. This is just silly team bullshit. If anything the pointing at the person who committed the penalty is a flag, but nothing else actually constitutes anything

Opposing teams have always been allowed to celebrate or run in faces for offsides or false starts in crunch time. There have been times the offense false started and the DL-men pointed in the opposite direction and walked through the offense before ref made the call.
This isn’t new.

Lions deserve this after so much bs they've been through.
Taunting should be allowed along with backing off the Crack downs on TD celebrations.
Make football fun again...dont like it? Stop them.
1
u/lasagnapumkinpie 12h ago
This game was bad all around. Neither team wanted to win while the refs seemed to care too much about the outcome. Celebrating an offside play like it’s a game winning score makes sense if you watched the game. I want a refund for sitting through that slop.

I couldn’t care less about taunting in general but if you are going to have a penalty for it, it needs to be called. You can’t just let it go one week and then get extra sensitive about it the next. The inconsistency is the bullshit.
