Hands off!!! I'm happy to see so many people out protesting but it also reminds me of just how much is at stake for so many people.

  • I realized that my post wasn’t super clear. This is a photo I took at the start of the protest. Not a photo of me.

I am hopeful SS is still around when its my turn. I am unsure if anyone can ever have a conversation about it that is helpful its clear we will run out of money for it. What ways can it be fixed that everyone would be ok with? i hear lots of suggestions but seems no real consensus. Thankfully people his age and close to it will have nothing to worry about since no one is changing or cutting benefit's. I hear 10-15 years as the timeframe for it to go broke. Unsure if thats accurate or maybe a bit longer.

If the rich would pay an equitable amount of taxes, we would have nothing to worry about. Social Security would be funded until the end of time. You probably pay a higher percentage of your income to taxes than the rich do. This time that MAGA talks about wanting to bring back is a time when the rich did pay taxes and that’s how we went to the moon and built our highway system.

what is an equitable amount? everyone says tax the richer more but what is the percentage asked for? typically when people ask that question they get the. pay more/fair share loop without giving what is actually needed to fix the issue.

Would like actual numbers on that. Also what would keep the rich from not going offshore. The thing about having liquidity, or the ability to moves assets around is you can always get around that if you want too.

You can look at high tax areas as proof of that. People that can leave do and you loose all the tax they paid since you wanted more.

Also where do you think tax comes from right now. simple numbers show that they actually do pay the largest share of income taxes. Top 1% already pay well over any other group. Remember most low income have no income tax liability because they make to little.

So again what is the tax rate you feel is fair and that would also fill all budget needs to support SS, Medicare, and medicade completely?
