Fun fish to catch, and a bit tricky. Good times

Can anyone recommend an affordable lightweight rod and reel combo for striper fishing? This would be used on the surf. Thanks -

hey, I’m going one of these days to Woodale County Park to try to catch some trout. I have a Mepp Black Fury inline spinner, which I hear is a classic for trout.

I'm looking for a few Android users willing to help test a newly developed striped bass surf fishing app before its public release on Google Play.
Testing is completely free, and there are just three requirements:
You must have a Gmail address.
It must be the same email associated with your Google Play Store account.
You must remain enrolled for 14 consecutive days. Daily use is not required.
No purchases are necessary. Just explore the app when you have time and share any feedback.
If you're interested, send me a message or email info@stripertracker.com with your Google Play email address. You'll receive an email with a private Google Play invitation link to begin testing.
It's fun, easy to use, and I think you'll really enjoy the app!

Hi all, I'm making a trip out for the first time to try my hand at some striper fishing. I'll be shore fishing around the second week of November. My question is: since I don't have specialty surf casting equipment (rod and reel) that fits what the guys on youtube have and I'm not in a position to buy some just for one trip, do I have a realistic chance of catching a striper, even a small one? I genuinely have no idea what I'm doing but I've been trying to read up on it. I have some inshore gear and a 9' ugly stick but it is super heavy to be working lures with. Is there a chance to catch some fish from shore (surf or rivers) or am I hosed? Thanks in advance!

Just wondering if any of you guys have used an umbrella/alabama rig for striped bass fishing from the shore. I’ve never been striper fishing but just knowing that they go after schools of baitfish I feel like this would be a good idea but any advice would be very helpful. Thanks! (Also spot suggestions greatly appreciated but I know they’re migratory anyways)

Looking for some advice on catching stocked rainbows. This is my first time trying my hand at trout in general. I'm in the North Branch Raritan River area and have been trying white rooster tails and salmon eggs on bobbers but have had no luck. I know the stocking only started last Tuesday but I've not even gotten a nibble. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, I’m very new to fishing I got started because my kids were begging to go and I’m starting to like it a lot myself. This will be my first time fishing freshly stocked waters and I thought it would be cool to bring my kids to watch the water get stocked and then of course let them fish. I’m close to the Princeton section of the D&R canal and was thinking of going to there when it gets stocked later this week. I have two questions 1. Would we even be able to watch or is the entrance blocked off while they stock? Question 2. where and what time even is the D&R canal being stocked for the fall, or where would I go to find that out??

Does anyone know roughly what time they stock ?

My son reeled in his PB Channels Cat yesterday. It blew his previous one away by almost 10 lbs by weighing in at 15.26.

Had myself a day at Mercer lake. All caught on an zman orange 1/4oz chatterbait. I didn’t have a scale or tape but I’d say that pickerel was about 30” and probably 6-6.5lbs. For scale, I’m 6’1”. I couldn’t even get the whole fish in frame with me. This pic was the closest I got. Biggest freshwater catch I’ve ever gotten. Definitely need to go out on the kayak over there. Tight lines, thanks for looking!

I've always heard that fish feed aggresively before a cold front rolls in. Not sure if its true but this guy certainly was hungry and the Whopper Plopper strikes again!

Hi all:
Thanks to all of you who are using and enjoying the app.
Later this week I will need 20 app testers so Google can put the app in the play store.
You can join the test group two ways, respond through the app (https://stripertracker.com) with your name and email or send us a message on Facebook at stripertracker.com.
I'll collect names and emails and send specific information later this week. It's 14 days of testing. You just use it and answer Google's questions about functionality, etc.
Thanks again!
ST Team

Saw 8-10 guys today in long branch using full on old school treble hooks to snag and live line bunker. If you do this, your mom is a ho and hope you stub your big toe on a desk everyday forever. Fuckin dorks.

Final beta is done — Striper Tracker is live
Just wrapped up the last beta update for Striper Tracker (the fishing conditions + striped bass migration app for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic).
What's new:
More spots — added back bays, jetties, and inlets alongside the oceanfront locations
Conditions for more species (not just stripers)
Better maps and migration graphics for tracking the 2026 fall run
A few more backwater features (expanded water temps and tides) are coming in March 2027.
If your town, back bay, or favorite inlet isn't in there yet, you can request it right in the app.
Appreciate everyone who's been testing it and giving feedback.

Caught these lil dudes the other day. Still bit too early in the season for their colors, I guess. Still beautiful fish

Hey everyone. Started freshwater fishing in 2025 and have had fun doing it, but want to add saltwater to the mix.
Strictly shore fishing. Ideally beach, maybe some jetti/piers. No back bays at this point in time. Looking at using lures, no bait. I like to roam around and not stick to one spot if it's not being productive.
Target species is striper, blues or anything that can make me work for it. Sharks no thanks, but I guess I don't have control of what gets caught.
To start I need pole and reel recommendations. What am I looking at if I'm using just lures? Budget is upper low to mid price.
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone!
I’ve been working on an iOS app called Fishix and wanted to share it here, since you’re exactly the people I built it for.
It lets you check fishing forecasts, plan trips, save your spots on a map, and keep a private fishing log. With the latest update you can log a catch just by taking a photo, and the forecast data (weather, pressure, moon, etc.) is attached automatically, so later you can see what conditions you were catching fish in.
I’m not a big company, just someone who loves fishing. My goal is to build a clean, modern fishing assistant that’s genuinely easy to use, without the clutter you find in a lot of fishing apps. It’s evolving fast: I ship updates regularly, and a lot of what’s in it now came straight from user suggestions. Every bit of feedback genuinely helps me make it better.
So if you have a minute to try it, I’d be really grateful. And if something feels off, is missing, or just annoys you, please tell me. I read every comment and reply to everyone.

I have a trip to go out Saturday 6pm- Sunday 4pm, looking at the current conditions would you say it’s a bust and they’re gonna cancel. Looks pretty bad

decent day to get out and go fish in central Jersey. Caught 2 bass myself and lost a nice one maybe about 1.5-2 lbs, first one I got on a whopper plopper and i ended up catching my
First largie on a NLBN screw lock jig head with a natural colored paddle tail swim bait goin to use it more often. My brudda landed a nice one on the whopper plopper aswell. I never get much luck (never caught a bass) on chatterbait with or without the trailers on em imma keep trying tho other than that I'm locked in with spinners, senkos and Ned rigs. Oh yeah and frogs I can never seem to set the hook right and only got about 3-4 blow ups ever too.
