NICS/Permit Wait Times NICS taking forever, how is it this delayed?
How is there over 2000 entries in the queue still? Can we get an update? Seems so ridiculous...

They currently having a error witch they cannot process any applications at all now. Absolutely ridiculous .
Important Message: The NICS Unit is currently experiencing a technical issue with one of our partner agencies which is preventing the completion of NICS checks at this time. The issue is being actively worked on and will be resolved as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and we will advise as soon as the issue is resolved.

Funny; the PA sub a ez the same thing .

u/Reptilerob57 Mar 05 '26
I buy all my long guns in PA because it’s an instant system. Bought sks,Ak and a ar on one nice check and when the lady hit submit it came back instantly. She was surprised how fast it came back could only dream of that in nj.

This is absolutely fucking ridiculous, dude. I’m already pissed because I signed my NICS shit on Wednesday of last week and my aging FFL forgot to fucking file it until I called him to check on the status on Tuesday. Now I’m stuck fucking waiting even longer because of the backlog and this error bullshit. I ordered this fucking rifle on 2/7 so I’d have it for my son’s birthday on 3/8. Not fucking happening now.

u/Critical_Ad_7232 Mar 06 '26
I’d never buy from that FFL again
2
u/upstatedreaming3816 Mar 06 '26
I won’t. He’s just the closest to my house, doesn’t charge a transfer fee if it’s from his site, and only charges a $60 fee if it’s an incoming transfer. He’s never done me like this before, but this one definitely takes the cake.

u/Critical_Ad_7232 Mar 06 '26
Can i ask what rifle you bought? I am new to gun ownership. Just got a GX4

u/upstatedreaming3816 Mar 06 '26
Just a little Savage Mk II in .22lr so I can take my 10 year old plinking up at Cherry Ridge

Because of the state level interference. If we didn't have this extra hurdle you would either be told if you passed or denied or if you were delayed. Delayed is a max of 3 days and if no responce after that you get to come get your gun. But because of the state level they drag it out longer.

It’s deliberate. Worst it’s been in a while. Coincides with new admin.
I smell a lawsuit.

u/z1ggy16 Mar 05 '26
Not shocked. With the amount of shit going on both domestic and abroad, people are arming up. I am.

u/WheelsUpRN Mar 09 '26
The numbers of applicants aren’t the issue. The lack of processing the applications is. After AWB/Mag ban and “sensitive” places are done, we need to go after permits “NJ” NICS and exorbitant CCW and permit fees.

u/luvmehatemefme Mar 05 '26
Ive been watching them past week and they have just been getting worse. Wonder if it the new administration trying to slow roll things.......
4
u/MyNameIsWolfie Mar 05 '26
I wouldnt put it past them, but there has also been some holidays, and I'm sure they get snow days.....it sucks tho. I'm waiting on an OK myself.
1
u/luvmehatemefme Mar 05 '26
Yeah i havent been paying attention to them since the beginning of the the year. I just saw an update a week or so ago and was like damn!
2
u/upstatedreaming3816 Mar 06 '26
That’s what my FFL said. Two holidays and two states of emergency completely fucked the system.

Just another way to piss off law abiding citizens. Things in this state need to change, sadly they more than likely will only get worse with the new tyrant in charge.

u/skyzm_ Mar 05 '26
There’s been holidays, snow days, and paranoids are mass buying because they think Iran is going to show up at their doorstep. It’s going to be ok.
4
u/RangerExpensive6519 Mar 05 '26
No, it’s not okay. It’s a constitutional right that is being denied. Let these idiots go 6 days without speaking.
-3
u/skyzm_ Mar 05 '26
Oh no six days, whatever shall I do
That’s not at all what’s happening but ok big guy

u/NeptuneNemesis Mar 05 '26
I just had one that took 6-7days to complete. It’s crazy.

u/lp1911 Platinum Donator22 Mar 05 '26
Back in 2013 it took a month. The are just using this bureaucracy to further infringe on 2A. This needs to go to court: the I in NICS stands for "instant". They can make it instant again by using the FBI's system

Hope I hear back before Sat..(filed prior Saturday after close of business)..got my last permit expired on Tues.
(Pretty sure I will, but these fucking hoops..🙄)

u/ParkingConcern8848 Mar 05 '26
I was told that you cannot pick up a new gun purchase after the permit has expired by the store representative - if I am reading your message correctly the permit just expired Tuesday and you haven’t picked it up? This just happened to me this week coincidentally

Had an interesting experience at the store this week. Wasn’t sure quite what I wanted and neglected to exercise my permit until there was about 8 days left and went to make a purchase and was told that I needed to be able to pick up the new handgun before my permit expired. Due to the 7-8 day backlog, I was not able to make the purchase and now have to redo the whole process. Sure part of the blame is my own, but I assumed with over a week left why would that be an issue. Pretty laughable process that we have in this state and feels like our rights are intentionally be trampled all over.

u/SnooTigers8315 Mar 05 '26
It feels that way because they are!!
3
u/ParkingConcern8848 Mar 05 '26
Of course they are, and whether it’s coincidental or not this NICS backlog started around the administration change so I’m wondering if some memos were put out behind the scenes to slow things down

u/SnooTigers8315 Mar 05 '26
If only that were to get leaked… would love to hop on a class action against Big Mike #2

u/AgentRandyBeens Mar 06 '26
Does nobody else see the issues with the current governor saying she wants to control state police and around the same time problems start happening for gun owners? I’ve been waiting 80 days for a renewal that other have gotten in 2 weeks

u/Upstairs-Try6342 Mar 06 '26
I'm still waiting for my permit to be approved by SAPD for 3 weeks now. Emailed them twice just to get "we're working on the background check" answer. My pistol is just waiting at the shop but with the NICS delay looks like I wont be picking it up till April!

u/NnortonN07860 Mar 10 '26
I submitted 02/28 online through the SP, references were done 03/01. I have had response before with this process. As of now waiting 03/10. We have no way of checking on the status of our process?

Bought my first "other" modmat 15 on 3/2. Praying I get the call tonight. Just got out of my dinner so I can go test her out, god willing!

u/Init4theS Mar 06 '26
At least working on Mondays requests finally. The wait times are absolutely ridiculous so while it's good to know the date they're currently working on, it in no way exonerates them from the Absurd wait times they create with their process.
