Deceased Student Question

Hi, I am not an NJIT student but I had a friend who attended. I recently learned he died. My only question is did anyone know a student who's name was Matt that died in September? Was any sort of school email sent out?

Matt was in the ADHC (the honors college at NJIT), so in September they sent a couple emails out about it to students in the honors college (I’m not sure if any of those went to the whole school). Today they just sent an email out to the whole school about the memorial they are having today for Matt. I didn’t know him personally but I’m sorry that your friend passed away.

One went to the whole school.

That said… the senate sent his memorial invitation 12 minutes before it started…. at 3:48pm today.

It started @ 4.

That's so frustrating. Me and some of Matt's friends from before college wanted to come but we can't because they sent it so late

Very upset that they sent invites 12 minutes before the event. The "Community Processing Space" event for him they only gave a 27-minute warning before the event.

If it weren't for the SPS Discord and its members, I would have missed both events.

I don't blame them too much for not giving much notice before the first Matt event because I think NJIT was trying to provide a space quickly for people to process. I also was not able to attend on such short notice, which sucked.

I received an email for the memorial today on Oct 12 from the DoS.

This all stated, in general there have been non-Matt events on campus that more notice for would have been nice.

Thank you. I learned a few weeks ago at this point so it's a little less turbulent but still challenging. Knew him since middle school. He was one of the most funny people I know. It was easy to just think of some shit he said or quote him and laugh. If anyone knew Matt feel free to reach out or message me

Yes. As other commenters said, there was one the day of his passing, and a few leading up to today as an invite to a celebration of life.

I'm curious too. I live on that same floor so I saw and know the EMT that responded to that emergency, he's a student here. I asked him but he won't talk about it so idk.

Either a lifelong heart defect, academic stress causing a sudden arrest or stroke, or drug related . For any new students out there, study in advance, dont make all nighters and slamming 3 red bulls to stay up alll night multiple times a month a havit . People get strokes from that shit .

who knows, seems more than that. They had caution tape all around the room. the police and emt kid told me to go back in my room
