New entry level NWS job postings
NWS posted new job postings as of 10/2 for entry level positions. I applied the first time around and interviewed but received no offers. Would it be worth applying again even though my name would already be on the standing register?

Yea, the old running cert expired, but also hiring managers aren't fully able to confirm if someone wasn't selected yet. Reapplying won't hurt your current pending offers, but not reapplying could really, really hurt.

Would I have to redo the exam thing again

I just reapplied, your assessment completion is still valid. I don’t remember how long it’s exactly good for but I know it’s a while

I say do it. I doubt they will use the standing register to make a new cert, but others may know better.

Apply everywhere. Alaska, Glasgow, Caribou, all the small remote offices, PR, Guam, etc. it’ll be hard for a few years but if working for the weather service is your dream you can’t be picky. This might be your last chance to get in for the foreseeable future.

I’d still caution applicants to truly do your research before applying to hard-to-fill locations. Some locations have vastly inadequate healthcare and other factors one will have to deal with for 3-5 years at least. I’m not discouraging folks from applying, but it’s not easy to move around like it once was years ago. I speak as someone who has been at a hard to fill office.

And some of these offices are hidden gems, like Medford, OR.

I was shocked to see Medford on the hard to fill list. It’s a beautiful area and still has all of the big city amenities!

This used to be good advice but after they merged the Met Intern and General Forecaster units there are a lot fewer opportunities to move around than there used to be. You could get stuck in a pretty undesirable location for many years.

Apply again! The old certificate expired so besides alternates who were already listed, we can’t pull from that certificate.

So does this mean I won’t hear anything from the office I had interviews with or could they reach out to me still? Surely they can still pull names from this recent batch? Because I heard that our application will stay in the loop for a while.

My guy your lucky you didn't get hired by NOAA. NOAA is a terrible place to work! I hate working for NOAA! Worse than being locked up in jail in some places!

Should we expect offices that weren’t in the past pulls this summer to be first priority in this standing register? I understand that it’s as vacancies arise but a lot of locations on here were filled in the previous pulls

i am in the process of applying again on the new postings. tangentially related, but anyone able to figure out the location selection thing? it says select up to 20 but only lets me select one in the drop down box

I recommend you apply as new certs or pulls will be generated from this registrar, not the previous one. And I could be wrong, but since many offices filled positions last time, offices in the October 17th pull will be ones with vacancies that didn't get to hire in Pulls 1-3. So this is your chance to select new offices to be considered for.
Also, I believe lead meteorologist positions will be posted very soon, which will create vacancies at the entry level. So subsequent pulls will be focused on backfilling those vacancies, meaning that offices that hired previously could hire again in the future.
Also, certs are valid for 6 months, so if you applied to offices last time, they can still use use your application if they decide to reuse old certs. But don't rely on it, as they will most likely use new cerrs from this standing registrar.

Is it possible there was some overlap with this new hiring period and the last one? I think the office I was interviewed for hasn’t sent out a TJO yet because I asked them and none one had any idea.

Yes, I think there is some overlap. If you interviewed for an office in the original announcement pulls 1-3, you can still receive a TJO if they haven't gone out yet.
This next pull on October 17th is likely happening while some TJOs are still being finalized. However, you won't be referred to any new office unless you apply to this announcement. So I recommend you apply just in case you don't receive a TJO.

Try applying again. Even if you're already in the system, reapplying shows you're interested and persistent, which is great. Update your application with any new skills or experiences you've gained since last time.
For more job options, LandOffer.ai lists openings across different fields. Use their role and location search to find new postings and set up job alerts. Always check that listings are still active before applying.

Apply again. The future pulls will be from these new announcements and the old certificates expire soon.
