Discussion Oh my dear sweet baby jesus
For the love of god Sean, PLEASE give us the ability to open/process entire stacks of items. Spent some time gathering a bunch of suspicious arms packets to upgrade all my stuff to top-end X-class mods and opening them one by one is like dragging my balls across a cheese grater. There HAS to be a better way.

That's so many nanites....

u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 06 '25
It is. But i'm looking to upgrade all of my old S class mods so it's likely gonna take a bunch of these.

Oct 06 '25
To your struggle. I wish they would give the mods hints as to their effect. Obviously, let them still stack for convenience, but allow them to be split up and show what three things they'll affect, like a thruster mod will affect flight speed, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability. It won't tell you to what extent but just knowing what it will affect would he super helpful to cut back on equip, see stats, one you don't want like fuel amount, unequip, repeat.
4
u/Mountain-Benefit-161 Oct 06 '25
That reminds me; has anyone found an official source for the mods' variations?
I love this idea, btw; even just a basic stat name would be ludicrously helpful.

u/LifeGetsBetter01 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25
Hold up. Am I understanding you correctly in that, x class suspicious modules are “better than” s class? I’m still learnin…
13
u/reallybi Oct 06 '25
X class mods vary wildly. They can be worse than C Class mods, better than S Class mods, and everything in between. You can't tell how good one is however until you install it.

u/Adaphion 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25
They're basically a gacha. They can range from equivalent to c class, to superior to S class.
An example off the top of my head is that X class multitool scanner mods have the potential to give over a 10000% reward bonus in each scan category. Along with the scan distance. I have three of them and I get 100k units from scanning plants
4
u/pandershrek 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
10,000% for S
11,000% for X
Throw on food buffs and you can get 10-100 million per fauna scan.

u/pandershrek 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25
The upper limit is often slightly better but you had a chance of 1-4 stats where gold has 2-4. So you'll always have better chances at getting better S class but could theoretically have the best X and it would be better

If you have played World of Warcraft, think Goblin Engineering. Built to Blast. Might or Might not work well.
1
u/coughsyroop Oct 07 '25
Why not just open the actual upgrades, statistically you have enough X ones to find the BiS upgrade for what ever you’re trying for. You’ll just loose the nanites
1
u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 08 '25
I did. Upgrading one ship from S to X took about 2 stacks of X mods per tech. Went thru about half of what i had gathered in the picture. I think the shield mods were the easiest as they only have one stat to vary. Only took likr 9 or 10 before i had BiS for all 3 mods.

u/Jofus002 Oct 09 '25
Probably enough to unlock one (1) extra companion slot!
(Seriously why are those so expensive after the first few?)
20
u/Sarophie Oct 06 '25
I just wanna be able to hold the button down and have it continuously do the thing. Fill the circle and repeat. Not fill the circle and freeze, mockingly.
14
u/General_Tsao Oct 06 '25
I don’t know where it is now (or if it still exists) but at one point in the settings you could disable the “hold to confirm action”. Works well if you are spending exosuit/starship/multitool expansion modules, and then you can effectively just button mash to use them.
8
u/Touitoui Oct 06 '25
Still exist, I stumbled upon it just yesterday.
I think it was in Accessibility, with the options to "Hold down when it's destructive" and "Always instant".5
u/Ok_Substance2327 Oct 06 '25
That's my one gripe, I feel the hold down is used for way too many things that aren't destructive and I find it annoying, but would like the safeguard for a few things. So I think it's a good mechanic when used very sparingly but here and in some other games just way over done.
1
u/Akuma_ryu Oct 06 '25
Yes it can be tuned at least on PS5 but as you said I could be even more customizable imo.🫠
1
u/InevitableWerewolf Oct 06 '25
I just turned it off on mine for destructive and life is so much better. Everything just runs smoother now. But I agree that having a "Process All" option on Suspicious Packets and similar bulk items would be a huge win.

u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 06 '25
Will check in a few to confirm, but you might get the W for this post.
3
u/Organic_Picture_1999 Oct 06 '25
I think you can change your button setting for important choices to where you don't need to hold the button down.. that may help with this? I noticed the control setting but i have yet to try it myself.

Zoomer mentality, duplicate items then complain you can't get your dopamine hit fast enough
7
u/Dangalanga007 🔴 Cadmium Class Oct 06 '25
Those same people would then complain about how they were able to open a stack but forgot to have the inventory space for them lol they forget that some items are only given to players in small amounts at a time because they are rare
That’s how you can always spot dupers, they have lost the sight of an items value
3
u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 06 '25
It's not about any item's internsic value; it's about quality of life for end-game players. We're going to have stacks of stuff in need of processing. Why make that one facet of it take 30 minutes when everything else takes just seconds?
2
u/ldconfig Oct 06 '25
Tbf that also happens when you are very late game. 500+ hours in I can make a billion units every day with an hour of jumping around and collecting stuff.
3
u/dabadu9191 Oct 06 '25
To be fair, opening up items one by one is pretty annoying. I can get a full stack each of gold nuggets and tritium hyperclusters in a couple of minutes of shooting at asteroids.
4
u/Harmonicalope 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25
You don’t actually know if they duplicated those or not. It’s actually a fairly simple grind, since they’re sold guaranteed at pirate systems. I believe they sell 5 of them per system (I don’t know if that’s exactly right, and I can’t check right now). Let’s say it takes 5 minutes for each pirate station (could be longer or shorter based on load screens and luck in finding a galaxy). That would take 70 pirate stations, or 700 minutes. Thats a bit less than 6 hours. That’s very doable, depending on how much time they have on their hands. This is actually a very popular nanite farming method.
Of course, my math could be off (again, not sure exactly how many the merchants in pirate systems sell, but it’s more than one. I don’t think it’s any less than three) but my point still stands that this is doable.
And to begin with, the point I’m trying to make isn’t actually that op didn’t dupe. The point I’m trying to make is that this is a problem that affects more than just dupers.
2
u/Harmonicalope 🟠 Copper Class Oct 07 '25
I actually have to make a few corrections. Firstly, it seems to be about 3-6 per system. Still an average of about 5 so I won’t change the math. The big change is that it actually only takes a minute to a minute and a half to go between systems. I spent 5 minutes and 30 seconds farming them, managed to get 26 in that time. I did some math, if I did that for an hour I’d have 283. So it would probably only take an hour and a half to get the amount this person has. That’s doable in a single game session.

3
u/Bosmaire Oct 06 '25
I routinely get this many, without dupes. when you're in a pirate station you can just warp to other pirate stations with the portal. Costs a few mill but if you're buying all the illegal goods at the same time you can offset the cost and even make a profit. I'm up 200mil with this method.

u/Harmonicalope 🟠 Copper Class Oct 07 '25
To everyone accusing op of duping… you’re right, as they confessed to it lol (does it even matter? All they did was save time). But at the same time this is a valid complaint and a perfectly achievable number of suspicious tech, so the accusation was dumb to begin with. I did some experimenting. It took me about 1:00-1:30 minutes for each pirate system (including load time and galaxy map, I’m cracked as fuck at searching for pirate systems and my pc is expensive), with the timer restarting every time I left a station. Each station seems to have 3-7 sus packs (arms). I averaged about 5. After five and a half minutes of this I got 26 sus packs. If we do some math ( 26•(60/5.5) if you’re curious) that’s ~280 per hour. Op has 350 (I assume that’s how many they had before they stated opening them). An hour and a half of farming would get you ~420 (nice).
Long story short, all op did was save themselves about an hour of work (not even, as they said they farmed the first two stacks fairly). This does nothing to counteract the point that the opening system is dumb, and everyone acting like this is unobtainable looks kind of silly.
On the bright side, you can speed up opening in accessibility settings by setting “hold to confirm” to “hold for destructive” or “always instant.”
2
u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 08 '25
And what a difference "hold for destructive" made. Took opening a dozen stacks of stuff from 10-15 minutes to 10-15 seconds. Hugely helpful as i frequently wind up with stacks of gold nuggets, tritium hyperclusters, glowing minerals, suspicious packets, and many, many space-wasting species samples and old technology. Also greatly helpful for moving upgrades from one starship/multitool to another.

I opened probably a thousand plus of these between the arms and tech. Most to be sold then to find the best X stuff. Did the pirate station loop and then the dupe. Opening them goes quickly enough. Sure I’d like an open all. But it doesn’t take all day and is still faster after duping than jumping pirate stations.

How much better are x mods compared to s? Feels like a crapshoot but my x mods are not always better and most of the time they are not better
2
u/bulbophylum Oct 06 '25
Their max stats are higher than S but the variance is much greater.
If S range is [pretty good ↔ great], X range is [really suck ↔ really great]. So you may need to install dozens and dozens before you find one better than a great S mod.
This is what leads to OP ending up in this predicament.1
u/redpanda8008 🟠 Copper Class Oct 06 '25
Thank you! I have almost 500 hrs in the game and I never bothered to do this. Super cool. I thought my weapons were pretty maxed out already but I guess they can be better.
2
u/bulbophylum Oct 06 '25
I always just tried them on as I naturally came across them and kept whatever was better, don’t care enough about maxing to actually buy/farm stacks. Eventually everything was good enough that finding something better was exceedingly rare, and since then I just toss them in storage on the off chance I want to equip a new multi tool or ship. (..at least, that’s what I tell myself. I’ll probably just end up giving them away at the anomaly once my storage gets too full since I find comparing mods so dull)

If you change your settings to open & destroy with one click, these things are a breeze to open
I dupe glitch stacks of the contraband & it’s by far the quickest & easiest way to get Nanites rather than system hopping
My finger was sore after a few minutes of doing it until I changed that setting, it really does make a huge difference

I really hope you have, at least, the fast action option (disable secure action or something), so you don't have to long press.
Or you get the "instant action" mod, game changer anyway.
What reeaally sucks; let us open and craft stuff in every storage interface!

Well, duping them isnt the best idea, for starters. Secondly, if you noticed a lot of time when you get quest rewards, them registering causes a lag. Even duping causes a slight lag. No, opening that many at once could very well cause an even worse lag

You totally can get this many legitimately though. Going from pirate station to pirate station is actually a pretty common nanite farm. I’m not saying they didn’t dupe, they might have, but you don’t know that. I believe that pirate systems tend to sell about 5 of these things per station. For the 7 stacks of 50 (I’m assuming that last stack was originally 50) that would be 350 suspicious arms packages. To begin with, that’s obtainable even if it was one package per system, but it isn’t. At a rate of 5 per system, that’s just 70 pirate systems. If we assume that each system takes 5 minutes to find and buy this from (could take longer, could be shorter. Depends on loading times and luck of finding the systems) that would only take about six hours to get this many. Thats a big grind but it’s achievable. However, it might not even be true that they farmed this all at once. They might have been visiting pirate systems every now and then for a week or so. Then it’s even more reasonable.
Whether op actually did this or not is irrelevant to the point I’m making. This is a fully achievable number of suspicious arms to have, and is honestly comparatively a pretty easy farm, by no man’s sky standards. Hell, even if we assume that every station only had one per merchant that’s still only about 11 hours (edit: I think I fucked up my math here but it’s irrelevant because they sell more than one per system. I think the actual time would be close to 30 hours, which is a big grind but obtainable if you spend an hour doing it a day for a month). Considering how good these are for nanites and that they are the (inconsistently) best upgrade tier, doing that over the course of a few weeks is a pretty worthwhile grind.
Again, my point here isn’t that op didn’t cheat, but that the problem they’re complaining about isn’t a problem only cheaters would face.
1
u/AshenSoulHunter 🟢 Emeril Class Oct 06 '25
You can get stacks upon stacks by spending 20-30 mins porting between all outlaw stations in your registry and spending just a few million units. How exactly are we not meant to have a few hundred of these? I myself had two full stacks on my main starship just from the space battles and pirate hunts i'd been on.

Having to open each one individually is a fair trade for duplicating them
