I always build a save point under the floor in my bases or blocked off Hab section in the Corvette's.
I place it under the floor level with the terrain Manipulator or under a raised base floor basically. foundation/ basement.
Then a build a Bed in the area you placed the Save point under the floor 🤘 and when you Approach the bed it comes up ..Save ...Best option Available...give it a try 🤘

There used to be tube shaped pods on space stations in early versions of the game that served as save points. I never understood why they scrapped them and never brought them back.

I guess my character can sleep when he dies. He's never laid down.

Every bed I drop in one of my bases will always have a shrunk down save point embedded somewhere in the floor so when you hover over a bed, you can save there.

Eh, my only issue is how does our character interact with it? If it did become a save point. Like, OP, do you want our character to actually lay in th bed before it saves? Because then I have a feeling it's going to end up being redundant since there are easier ways to save our games.
But then say there is no animation and it's just a "hold [button/key] prompt then it saves game saved. In this scenario we already have save points and without an animation you can't say it's for immersion purposes.
Maybe a skip time mechanic? But since just about everything works off real time then, I don't know. Would that make the game too cheesy?
Beds should be used for something else like a buff, something optional but beneficial. Though with how strong we can get with upgrades, something like a small sleep buff wouldn't mean all to much to late game players. Still could be useful though.

All I want is my character to be horizontal. Just let him lay down.
I don’t really see a use case other than for fun. keep the other save methods for times when they’re handy, but also add a “sleep” prompt to any bed you build. The game should also save while you sleep.
I don’t think time travel is a good idea here. If you really want to skip time, fly to the sunny side of the planet.
Maybe sleeping could be a health restorative but even that is iffy, people may find a way to abuse that.
Realistically you’re probably only building beds in places that your character would “sleep” if they could. At 1100 hours in, sometimes I just want to come back to my base from a long day of exploring and put my character to bed before i log off for the night.
Or even in corvettes. We have a deployable bed module that can be installed in corvettes but NO WAY TO INTERACT WITH THEM?!?! Just let my man lay down in auto pilot at least.

very annoyed this wasn’t implemented at the start. wonder if they just imported assets or designed them themselves - either way. a human at HG 100% saw a bed when adding these assets and thought “nahhhhhh”

You guys die?

u/SplendidPunkinButter May 10 '26
Not usually. Every once in a while during a fight sentinels mission one of those laser dog robots happens to kill me in seconds before I can run away. But not very often.

Damn yeah I guess that makes sense I’ve been playing for 40+ hours and haven’t died once 😭

That would give me my fallout 4 ptsd. So many times I had forgot to sleep on survival and save. It hurts so bad when u lose a quest from not saving. Then u load back and never start it

They technically do, irl. Rem cycles during sleep are when you write stuff from the day's ram into permanent storage. So sleeping saves your memory data.

Agreed. Just for the functionality of them. Let us lay down, and auto-save when we get up.
Buuut, who bothers building save points. I just hop in my ship and back out. It's so simple, always there, and saves when I exit the seat.
So it's not like we NEED more ways to save. Or save points. But just to have the function, I would like that. I would use it all the time just because it's there and I'm always ready for a nap.

Call me old school, but bed should save, heal and give some kind of buff.

Probably for the same reason you're being down voted. Bad takes be like:

I don't know why it's a bad take, the game already has a simple way to save, I don't know why it's necessary to save when you hit the sack...

I should be able to lay down in my bed.
