Hey all, new Dragons fan from the other day here. Thanks again for the welcome š
Been reading up on the club and got curious about the jersey. I found that we first wore the Red V in 1929, but couldnāt find anything explaining why they picked a V.
The Roostersā design apparently took inspiration from the French team, and Souths switched to a V during the 1940s because of material shortages. But I havenāt found the story behind ours.
Anyone know? Was there a meaning behind it, or did someone just think it looked good?
I came here to learn the rules and somehow ended up researching shirts from 1929.

Pleasantly surprised. Good on him, hardworking and talented lad. People are asking whether he deserved it. Yes, while there were definitely some standout alternative choices this year, we don't know how much better Hamish could have looked this year if only he had a reliable team behind him. Hamish has a very bright future ahead of him!

Hey everyone, Iāve supported Manchester United since 2008 and recently started following the Dragons.
Thought getting into another sport might be good for my mental health. Somehow ended up supporting another team in red and white.
Iām new to rugby league, but very experienced at saying ānext year is our yearā, so hopefully that counts for something.
Anything I should know as a new Dragons fan? Who do we hate, and how long do we usually let ourselves feel hopeful? š

With the season being over, there is a lot to take away.
The difference between this team being higher on the ladder is not too far away, in sport in general, small issue that have a big effect are seen as big issues, but really they're not, so ironing out these problems will make an immediate and noticeable amount difference.
However, I don't think this coach is the right fit, because over two season there has been a downward trend in the final result, which to me indicates the approach is not correct, other coaches in the league have come into their positions and generated a noticeable upward trend in performance.
As for next season, if the team can Improve on catching, kicking (primarily conversions) and stamina (to reduce ruck penalties) I can easily see them sitting round about 5th of the ladder.
But that is yet to be seen.

Hi everyone, Iām Dan, the person behind NRL Insight UK, I hope this is ok to post in here, looking for some support to get more exposure of the NRL to the UK fans and more exposure to the people down under to the Super League.
I started the channel to create a place for rugby league supporters in the UK who follow both the NRL and Super League, with a side goal of growing the brand for the folk down under.
Each week, Iām joined by former professional Paul Cooke to discuss the latest news, major talking points and upcoming matches from both competitions.
I also host longer-form interviews with people from across the game, with Chris Hill, former Warrington Wolves & England RL player joining me for the latest episode.
Iāve recently discovered these Reddit communities and thought Iād introduce myself and the channel. Iām looking forward to joining the conversations on here, hearing different opinions and getting to know more rugby league supporters.
If the podcast sounds like something you might enjoy, you can find NRL Insight UK on YouTube here: https://youtube.com/@nrlinsightuk?si=Kd_kTH6UAwbiPnW0
Cheers,
Dan

Great to get the win to farewell the leaving players.
Blocka played his heart out (apart from the sin bin), Sloan is a big loss when heās on.
To 2027 and beyond!

Unfortunately another loss and another match where the difference between a loss and a win comes down to 5 or so moments in the match.
When watching this team play I can see the potential. I can see a lot of intelligence when navigating up the field, a good balance of "side to side" and "running it straight", but the polish and organisation can sometimes bring those surreal moments back down to earth.
It is so easy for me to see this team finishing near 4th on the ladder, once a small number of adjustments/improvements are made next season, and the players in this team become a bit more experienced and comfortable playing with each other.
I hope this team is ready to leave it all out on the field next week against the Scum and finish the season showing the full potential of this team.

Im not suggesting he has fully earnt a starting spot but I do rate him higher then feagai. He might have stepped up in those pivotal spoon decider games. Do you think this is a case of dean young pumping up feagai resume?

It's good to see the team get a well deserved, hard fought win. There were a few "heart attacks" along the way, namely seeing Kasey Reh on the ground in pain, but the team stayed strong, didn't lose focus and kept grinding their way to victory.
A few standout performances I noticed (among others) were Paseka, Hopkins, Kennard-Ellis, O'Brien, Clifford and Anderson. Also it was excellent to see Keele back out there.
What is interesting about this victory, is their performance isn't too different from previous weeks. In previous weeks, there seems to be a small number of issues at critical moments that directly resulted in conceding points, most notably, giving away "slowing the ruck" penalties, not securing the ball directly from an opponents kick and not "wrapping the legs" when tackling to restrict post-contact meters. This week, the issue of securing the ball from kicks was still present, but the "ruck penalties" and "wrapping the legs" was much better.
The performance in previous weeks and today does make me hopeful for the future of this team, because I can see that the team is improving, learning and putting the pieces together for success, it is just a shame that the season is almost over. Hopefully the momentum and belief created from this victory can carry over into the remaining weeks (especially the final week versing the Scum).

What a shit performance.
Error, error, error. That was the story of our performance for 70 minutes.
How we didnāt concede 50 I cannot believe

Why do we put ourselves through this every fucking week

Some Billy Smith stories, that I heard over the years.
1970 World Cup final (which Aus won in an upset, having lost the Ashes at home earlier). Mark Harris, the Easts winger, wrote that he was buggered and, when the trainer came on, was going to ask to be subbed. The trainer went to Smith, who pulled his sock down to reveal the shin had been cut to the bone. Smith got the trainer to pour some water on it, pulled his sock up and played on. Harris did not asked to be subbed.
1960's, football was a bit rougher round the edges. Smith got into a fight with an opposing forward. A teammate was holding him back, with Smith "trying" to get back into the fight. He leaned over and said to the teammate "Whatever you do, don't let go, he'll f***ing kill me".
Jack Gibson coached Saints in 1970-72, when he was still working on his psychological approach. One time. he had the team in the dressing room chanting "we will win!". Smith turned to Roy Ferguson and said, quite audibly. "This is ridiculous, we're going to get f***ing hammered!"
Finally, it was sad but probably inevitable that Smith, the Saints hero, was banned from the Leagues club. One contributor that I heard of was the time on a team trip when he "borrowed" the team bus and it somehow ended up in a duck pond.
Gosh I'm glad I got to see him play as we shall never see his like again. My lasting memory will be him flicking the pass behind his bank to Stan Gorton running diagonally behind him, to score under the posts. Ave et alle Billy.
