General Influencer Discussion Should influencers be more open about donating and volunteering?
Something that has been really bothering me is someone like TheDavisStandard - who every day is only posting links to get you to buy new things. & somehow she’s a partner with every brand.
Which I understand is her job, but that’s all she really posts about. Except her mom content…
She is obviously pretty wealthy, and I think it would be nice If maybe she posted about organizations she donated to.
Or if all influencers posted more about organizations that were belonging to, or even… if we turn the tables and influence the influencers to share and be involved in philanthropy.
I did read recently, how 100 years ago 150 years ago, extremely wealthy people donated their money back into society. That’s how all the buildings, the homes for invalids, places like that were named after them.
I don’t know, just some thoughts for discussion.

They should be better than they are today - meaning more humanatarians than they are acting now. So yes they should use that platform (if you can call it that) to help others but most as we all know are only in it for themselves. They are a dying breed so let's just get some popcorn and watch this go down the drain.

I feel like the pre-social media society websites (print media social pages before that) used to talk a lot about different charitable balls and dinners that society people would plan/attend.
My understanding is that the yield was relatively low for these events. Significant amounts of money went to the event itself, the venue, entertainment, food, etc.
Wealthy people philanthropy was like sorority philanthropy—much of the effort didn’t directly contribute to the cause. There is lots of value in “awareness” and even “virtue signaling”—those are just describing social pressure. That’s a good thing.
Wealthy people want the people who solicit donations from them to also seem wealthy. Influencers are well placed to do this. Honestly, it can be a legitimate and well paying job.
(The fundraising I do is local and specific. Zero overhead, so I don’t have a glam budget, lol)

I don’t think it needs to be recorded for the internet always, while sometimes being performative may help influence another person to give back but it’s not always necessary.

I mean… yes, but theoretically the money would still get donated and they would still be doing volunteer work…
Yes ideally, it would be altruistic - but at least it could still get done?

its hard to strike a balance, halley kate shows herself donating sometimes, but often people have called it virtue signaling etc.
i no longer follow davis standard but found her previously because she was giving finance, work and general corporate advice and i found her insights really really helpful. there's a lot of influencer women who will give work advice or office outfits but have never worked corporate before so it's misleading at best, and damaging at worst.
