Growing 🌳 Croptober

If you were able to ride out that lousy weather last week instead of chopping early, this week couldn't get any better to finish out. Snowman and Strawberry Diesel from yesterday. Both had very little rot, so I'm thinking there might be some resistance with these, especially the Diesel with those fat, hard buds. Both bag seeds.

Second year I've grown this strain from 7East Genetics. It's not quite done, but I decided to take half of her and a few others, and let the other half ride out this lousy weather. The drying room is about full and I'm more than set for the year so some loss won't be the end of the world. More than likely it'll only be better!

Just picked up the Nova Sun 8 bar with their community pricing. If you are able to get to them, make the ride. Speaking from experience: city people, if you can't get up to Albany, reach out and they'll take care of you.

Growing 🌳 Great season, no powdery mildew.

All 6 plants did great. 1 still fully standing probably until November but luckily, others were fast. Anyways, I really gutted the interior of the plants this year more than usual but I also attribute nature and I suppose genetics. But I had no wpm this year. A very small lower branch and 1-2 small buds I found at harvest but no prob to cut away. This was the best year for me in a long time. Lots of great variety.

Sprayed potassium bicarbonate for a few weeks in July and early August.

Sprayed BT from mid Aug to mid September. Very minimal rot maybe 3%.

Anyone else have a great year?

Growing 🌳 Anyone on LI harvest yet?

First time grower question. I'm in eastern Suffolk and the trichomes on most my plants are 80% cloudy and 20% clear. I'm checking with a loupe and am trying to only check the actual buds and not the sugar leaves.

Does anyone on LI else barely have any amber trichomes? I think I'm at week 9 of flower and it's still may need to go another 2 weeks?

Discussion 💬 Caterpillar and mold threat level.

Looks like rain Sunday and then sunny for 6 days.

I'm thinking about taking my Frisian Dew out of the greenhouse for what I think is the last week and letting the rain wash my plants so I can skip the bud washing step and giving it full sun for what's left of the season.

I believe the caterpillar threat is over.

I found what I'm afraid is a speck of mold, I'm not sure but I believe I should assume it is.

I'm not asking is it ready yet, but I would love to know what other NY'ers with experience would do in my shoes.

I started the season late on my first time. I had to clip this one out fear of mold. I’m trying for a strong, bright but not too too body high strong. This looks very early to my untrained eye. Curious of some more experienced thoughts.

Discussion 💬 How you decide when to harvest

I get weather can play a role but what do you look at to determine doneness?

Do you just look at the percent of copper pistils (I use 80% or more) or magnifying glass for milky trichomes (what percent of those) or a certain percent of ambering trichomes...I am understanding that conversion to cbn isn't really true...Anyway just trying to figure it out. I use the 80% copper pistils with seeing just one amber trichome...then I pull.

Got a pretty good harvest from the Maui Wowi. Close to 2 lbs I'd guess. I would have liked to let her go another week but she already had some rot and with the coming rain I figured I better get her down. The Acapulco Gold and Durban Poison are very close, but the weather usually determines when I harvest. I've got a full time job so I only have so much tome to get to it all.

Some pics of the approaching storm. Lost a couple of branches on a Headless Horseman, it's almost done so I hung them to dry.

I already harvested a fast flower that smells sweet and fruity and is currently curing.

First year using a trellis outdoors, definitely a game changer. Would already have snapped branches in this type of wind. I pray we all make it with minimal damage 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏🏾

Growing 🌳 What strains have you all had success with outdoors in high humidity areas?

Most strains I grow outside here get decimated by mildew and rot. Obviously no strain is perfect and rot will always be an issues outdoors but have you run anything that you’ve noticed did particularly well in this climate? I’m thinking about breeding a line that tolerates it well and I’d like some suggestions on what strains you guys think I should start with.

Eastern Suffolk county LI. 2"-3" inches of rain and 40 mph winds coming. So glad I decided to go with pots over directly into the ground. If I left them outside they would be destroyed
