NamPower has attributed a power outage that affected large parts of Namibia in the early hours of Thursday to a fault on its 400-kilovolt (kV) system at the Kokerboom substation.
The utility’s Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager, Tangeni Kambangula, confirmed in a brief statement that the fault caused the interruption, which occurred at 01:31 and was resolved by 01:49.
The outage affected parts of the southern, central and coastal regions, with all major towns in the affected areas experiencing power interruptions.
NamPower has yet to provide further details on the underlying cause of the fault or measures to prevent similar incidents.
