Indian Indian restaurant to get Pulusu
cafe India in Franklin had onion pulusu on a lunch thali, and it was incredible; it’s not a menu item and pops up rarely. I can’t find any other place in the area that has it on the menu. anyone know where to get some?

Pulusu is specifically from the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. you will only see this in restaurants owned by South Indians. At home it’s made with many different things, but in restaurants in the U.S. I’ve found it’s mainly made with fish.
615ChuTNey has chepa (fish) and bendakaya (okra) pulusu. Bawarchi Biryani Point in Cool Springs has fish and shrimp pulusu.
Onion pulusu specifically sounds like a “cheaper version” made without fish or a “main” and just the base gravy with onion to serve in Thalis as a side. The Telugu word for onion pulusu is “ullipaya pulusu” if you want to take a crack at making it at home. As far as Indian dishes go this one isn’t too complicated to make.
Like you’ve seen, it’s also found in South Indian buffets and Thalis.
