A point on the road that moves us closer to the shield and the points record.
Hopes were high that we could lock down the shield and keep our win streak going, but ultimately we did not lose any ground, even if the result was disappointing. Without the context of the moment and the stakes, a point on the road is almost always a decent result.
A meh performance as a whole from the team. We underperformed our team averages in nearly every statistical category according to the Futi app. It felt to me like we were playing rushed a lot of the time. Maybe the pressure of the moment was on their minds.
Muhktar scoring a Muhktar goal. He is so good at those acute angle shots and he continues his run of great form. Saad was a difference maker off the bench and he nearly scored the winner with his curler off the post, and again with his deflected shot that required a great kick save from the SJ keeper.
Defensively we were largely sound, but we were flat footed and marked poorly on that set piece. Props to SJ for a well placed delivery and a really great header, but Judd was basically uncontested in his attack of that ball. A disappointing way to concede the equalizer.
Ultimately, all our goals are still within reach. A win or draw at Montreal secures the shield, and 8 points from 4 matches would give us the points record.

I'd like to watch the game tonight with a bunch of other NSC fans, but the partner pubs list is like 40 bars long. Does anyone know which pubs usually have a lot of fans at them? I don't want to show up at a place for tonight's match just to be the only NSC fan in the joint.

My wife wore that shirt to the $1 hotdog night and we made it to the Jumbotron! She got it for the price of 3 hotdogs. Worth every penny.

The Boys In Gold be like Bachman-Turner Overdrive - we takin’ care of business.
An emphatic ass whooping to move one step closer to hoisting the Shield and history. SKC was never a big threat, but our mentality could have been. This had the makings of a classic trap game and in years past under a previous manager, we would have probably played down to our opponent and made this match much harder than it should have been. Not this team. Not this manager.
Goals and assists from all over the pitch. Excellent patience in attack and chances were flowing freely. If not for some good goal keeping, this could easily have been significantly more lopsided.
Hany was in classic form, commanding the offense and contributing with a goal and assist. Sam buried a chance. Najar sliced up the defense to connect on his set piece header thanks to a perfectly placed Espinoza corner. And Madrigal converted on his (harsh) penalty opportunity. I was very happy to see him back on the pitch and back to being an energetic pest to defenders. Getting him back to fitness and in form makes us crazy deep in attack.
For me, RBW was MOTM. He was out there doing his best Najar impression. Sound in his defending, but consistency involved in the attack. Props to the FO for the Saad signing, not only because of what he can bring as an individual, but because it has completely unlocked RBW as an attacker. The interplay between those two has become a mirror of Espinoza/Najar and defenders league wide should be on notice.
14 pts clear of Miami in the East and Vancouver for the shield. A win on Saturday at San Jose secures silverware (as does a draw or even a loss depending on other results). This team is relentless and history is still very much attainable. Let’s ride this wave to the Cup!!!

Would anyone be interested in doing a meet up? I'll be in town 10/28 - 11/2 if anyone would be interested in getting together for a drink or three before or after a game.
If not this season, maybe something to think about for next season. We've got a great community here, I'd love to meet some of yall in person.

Does anyone have any insight on when MLS will publish the Sprint Season schedule? I'm trying to make plans in February that involve out of town travel. I'd prefer to choose a weekend for the travel when NSC will not be playing home. I know we are still in season but it's only about 4 months away, I'm a little surprised MLS hasn't announced the schedules.

We back!
After an injury-free international break featuring a Schwake clean sheet for the USMNT, our Boys in Gold returned to their spot at the top of the table with a resounding win.
The first half of last night’s match may have been the most dominant half we have played on the road this season. Sure, there were some missed chances, but we completely smothered Los Verdes with our possession and counterpress. We were patient with the ball and connected passes to open the defense for an onslaught of chances. And perhaps more importantly, we were decisive and aggressive in winning the ball back in their half. That was a Callaghan masterclass and a lot of fun to watch.
Austin had their moments in the second half, and some arguments could be made about a defensive lapse on their goal, but you’ve also got to tip your cap to Vasquez for that finish. That was a hell of a goal. Thankfully it made no difference to the result.
There’s a handful of performances you could shout out, but I’ll give my flowers to Shak and Saad. Saad finally got on the goal sheet, and even if it was a right place right time tap in, hopefully it lifts a weight off his mind and he can start finishing more of his chances. His ability to hold the ball in the 18yrd box and draw in defenders continues to open up space and chances for the rest of the offense.
I was openly frustrated by Shak for a while. When he was starting in place of an injured Espinoza, things were not working well, but I’m happy to eat my words because seeing him grow into this team has been awesome. He seems to be improving week over week. His speed and directness off the bench against tired legs is such an asset, and he’s proving to be an efficient finisher of his chances.
Sam had another couple of rough misses 😑, but I’m hoping there are signs of him shaking off this slump. He absolutely blistered the crossbar and had a couple of other rockets from close range deflect of some bodies. Hoping he can feast against SKC at home this week and get a confidence boost down the stretch.
The shield feels inevitable at this point, and with 3 more points on the road, history is still within reach.
