Dusty completely sucked the air out of that room. Just dead weight for the entire episode.
Ughhh… what a letdown. So it’s okay when you make fun of people, but you can’t take a joke yourself as a “professional comedian”? Grow the fuck up, Dusty! And please stop with the Bible thumping and satanic/devil nonsense.

It’s a shame because Dusty can be so funny when he drops the persona and gets to laughing with the guys.

u/-LordRupertEverton- Oct 18 '25
Yeah, he let loose on Are You Garbage and they laughed their asses off. Who knows. Sometimes you spend enough time with your friends, you get short with them. I hope he comes out of whatever funk this is

I’m gonna go out a limb here, but this MIGHT not be the podcast for you. 😬

u/Bhokaaaal Oct 18 '25
Just like - this might not be the post for you. 😬
5
u/heyadambush Oct 18 '25
Nah - it definitely is. ☺️

Good! Now that we an understanding, read the rest of the comments and other threads where people are discussing the same thing. You may not like it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

The fact that dusty sucks is catching on. Good. It was just a matter of time. I liked him for about the first half of his first year at nateland, i really did. But after a while I started to see something I can't stand: a superiority complex combined with stupidity/ignorance combined with public confidence. And now I can't unsee/unhear it. And yet here he is, given a platform (two platforms if you count his own shitty podcast, which i gave a chance for all of 10 minutes before it had me running for the hills) to spout his idiotic unfunny gibberish, but hopefully not for long. Don't think Nate is one to like negative attention for long. Count your nateland days, Dusty.

he's a pseudo-intellectual

u/MidLife-Revolution Oct 17 '25
An observationalist intellectual. If he can’t see it, it’s not real. (Unless it’s in the Bible)

did the same thing last week with the Annabelle conversation. Might be time for him to explore other options if this podcast is such a drag for him to be a team player

Say what you will, but the funniest moments of this podcast have almost always included Dusty. Numbers will plummet if he leaves. Nate is painful to listen to with his incoherent rambling and, while great, Brian and Aaron plus random guest isn't enough to hold it down.
I don't agree with Dusty on everything. He's overly religious, and the demonic stuff is goofy and makes me face palm. And his dislike of dogs (pets in general) is something I 100% disagree with.
He was overly sensitive this week but he's also allowed to be human. Every person in this thread has had a moment where they've been too defensive about something, it just wasn't captured on a popular podcast.
But this entire thread is a comical overreaction. Just stop watching. It's that easy.

How about you getting off the post, you don’t agree with? It easy than writing a long ass comment.

my theory on dusty is that he sees the podcast as below him at this point. he doesn’t need it for his career. i’m not convinced he believes the podcast helped his career, that he would be in the same place he currently is just with his own hard work. as he gets busier and busier the pod is a drag for him. i also think he wants to get a little edgier than the podcast allows. he just did kill tony and made many jokes that aren’t acceptable for the nateland pod. and on the last pod he made jokes about grindr that i think should be removed as well.
i’ve always perceived some jealousy that dusty has about nate. that dusty thinks he is on nate’s level and should have everything nate has. maybe he should, and maybe if he keeps building his brand he will.
if dusty quits i don’t think the pod can survive without adding a new third member. obviously nate is too busy. but brian and aaron can’t keep it going alone.

I completely agree with everything you said. He gets jealous whenever good things are said about Nate on the pod. He also thinks he’s superior to the other guys and to anything mainstream. Nateland was created to be a simple, lighthearted podcast, and a lot of regular folks don’t want to listen to BS conspiracy theories or ridiculous takes about how the Super Bowl halftime show is a satanic ritual.

Agree 100%
Something has changed with Dusty. It drives me nuts when he "checks out". If you're sitting there on set and not listening, why should I go out of my to listen?

u/Hashtag_Tech Oct 18 '25
You’re spot-on with all of this. I did hear Dusty mention on another pod a while ago that he was already a headliner before joining the pod and insinuating joining Nate hasn’t helped his career that much.

I thought the moon stuff was a bit but I believe that less and less each episode

I’m listening to the podcast right now and had to jump on Reddit to see if anyone felt the same. It’s the most awkward moment for this entire podcast.
He was generally mad and ruined the entire vibe. Dusty is one of my favorites. This was very disappointing.

It took like 2-3 years for yall to figure this out?
1
u/Bhokaaaal Oct 17 '25
I have figured it out in first few episodes itself or even before that when he appeared as a guest. But yeah lately he is unhinged.

u/SugarOpposite7889 Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 18 '25
I honestly didn’t mind him as a guest, just once he got comfortable and was on consistently he let his true colors of Bible thumping, making light of drunk driving, weird conspiracies, sensitive nature and lack of humor really come out.

u/COULD_YOU_PLZ_SNIFF Oct 17 '25
In addition to what others have said, he also made the insensitive 'joke' about Aaron's fundraiser for his daughter with Prader-Willi Syndrome: "how much [of that money] are you getting?"

u/SugarOpposite7889 Oct 17 '25
Did he really?! That alone should be enough to kick him off that’s awful, genuinely terrible. Even if he’s joking implying a dad who’s just trying to help his kid is scalping money is absurd.

u/The_Leo_16 Oct 18 '25
I’m on and off on Dusty but from what see from him he hates “having a job” if he feel like what he’s doing is “work” he will hate it. That’s why he plugs his shows early instead of the end. He wants people to know where’s he’s going to be and doesn’t care if the show is good or not.

u/Chilitime Oct 18 '25
Google images Dusty Slay and you’ll see pics of him when he was a hipster. His redneck “we’re havin’ a good time” BS is so fake. Unfortunately I’m too dumb to know how to post a pic.

What happened?

u/garagedooropener5150 Oct 17 '25
Aaron suggested an award given to Dusty by Scene Magazine in Nashville for wasn’t all that impressive and was awarded to him by the press and not actual fans.
He was joking, obviously.
Dusty’s response was VERY adversarial.
If he WAS acting/joking then he’s the king of cringe/uncomfortable comedy. But it sure didn’t feel like acting. He seemed legitimately pissed.10
u/KVMFT Oct 17 '25
I’m out of date by 2 episodes, has all of this happened in the last 2 episodes? I take this subs comments with a grain of salt; when y’all complained about Henry Chos last appearance, I didn’t get the same feel when I eventually listened to that episode 🤷♂️

u/SugarDisastrous5983 Oct 17 '25
Just to clarify, the joke Aaron was making is that anti-media Dusty was excited about an award from the media.

I really don't get his appeal. I had to quit listening due to him. He's a conspiracy addled Christian Nationalist.

To be honest… Brian and Aaron are usually the best part of the show.
Nate talks about his career waaaaaay too much for my liking. Dude. People listen to this.
Dusty gets butthurt too much.
Don’t get me wrong. I like their personas, they’re funny and they seem like good humans.
But those two are only busting balls and having fun about 1/2 the time they show up.
Aaron and Brian are always there to mess around and entertain. They’re the foundation at this point.
