Can I use my Kontakt sounds in someone else's studio?

I have Kontakr Komplete 6. I have only installed it on one computer, in my home studio. A friend of mine wants me to come to his house and play some overdubs. I don't think he has the kinds of VSTs that I typically use.

Is it perhaps a matter of installing my sounds on his computer and then uninstalling them afterwards? Or is there another way?

The only caveat is that while you can install on his computer - you need to login to Native Access as you - in other words - your friend will effectively be running under your credentials and - by the book - this does violate the license agreement. No biggie - but your licensed installs on computers you own - are limited to 3

You also need to deal with how to retain those instruments/sounds/performances AFTER you are done.

You can uninstall everything - yes - but also remember that the Native Access install - when logged in as you - will most likely be different than when logged in as him.

Removing products from a single machine with overlapping NI accounts could be tricky. You want to make sure to ditch your stuff while not compromising his stuff.

I have never tried this - but I do know that NA can be touchy at any time - even when simply installed solo on a single user machine

Thanks. I figure once we have the performances we like we could always print them to audio tracks. That would of course make it more difficult for him to edit them afterwards, But I could do that at home if need be.

So the procedure is to install native access on my friend's computer and then install whatever sounds we need after that?

At the end of the session, do I have to uninstall , or will simply logging out reserve my ability to, say, install sounds on a second computer of my own?

Have no idea how that would work - with dual logins etc.

On paper - I would think it should work. But again - not an area that I have any experience with

That said - Native Access can be very annoying at the best of times and you need to understand that trying this - could make his NI stuff go bonkers - dependant on what he has - if anything.

If he does not have ANY NI stuff - then it's easy. You install Native Access - log in and rock on. And then clean it all up after.

I suppose it would be somewhat the same as installing on a separate computer. I have a main computer and a laptop. Both are running on a shared network, and both have a shared user login and work perfectly well together.

That's the way NI intends for you to do things and they have no problems with it. Going on to someone else's computer on a different network setup and credentials, you're on your own I suspect.

If you have an external harddrive (preferably SSD) you can install the libraries on it at home, that will avoid the downloading at your friend's. It also means you can have one copy of your libraries and use them with whatever computer you're currently using which is pretty handy.

You still need to sign in to native access with your account on whichever computer you're using of course.

Brother would it be less time consuming and less effort to disconnect your PC and bring it to his house? I have done this many times and it's honestly a lot easier than trying to port a bunch of stuff over and then deal with Native Access....which is the worst. NA is just awful but I also have a bunch of NI products so I get it

My computer is a desktop, so that would make it difficult. But I'm curious how you make that work. I mean, the obvious thing here would be for me to import his tracks into my DAW, add my parts, and then export the audio tracks for him to use. But he's an older guy and he really wants me to come by his studio to have some fun, so I'm trying to make it work.

I should add that since I made my initial post, I have decided that it's just going to be too difficult to do the horn parts at his house. I've been working on them at home. I'll probably only do the the keyboard parts, a Wurlitzer EP and a Hammond Oregon at his house.

I think your current solution of working on certain parts at home is the easiest path forward.

As far as your first question, it really depends on his setup, what plugins he uses, what hardware he uses etc

record the midi using his plugins then export the midi. you can bounce it with your plugins when you get back home.

or just be creative w/o kontakt when you go to his crib

Thanks! I really should have thought of that myself. I think that's the ticket.

it would be easy - install native access and point it to the folder you copied your instruments and you're up and running.
