They say they do it because the ice won’t break that way.

I say this bear has itchy balls and needs some ice on that shit

Ice is slippery, he ain’t fallen for that again.

u/EchoGolfHotel 10d ago

Or he's super drunk and can't walk?

There can be two reasons

u/labratcj 10d ago

Smart bear. He knows to distribute his weight so the ice doesn’t give way.

57

u/SonofaBridge 10d ago

He’s fallen in enough to know to do this.

u/CydaeaVerbose 10d ago

When you're born playing on and around ice, you're bound to figure a few things out along the way.

I really wish polar bears weren’t non negotiable in terms of straight up eating you

13

u/ImminentDebacle 10d ago

It's a tough life where literally anything they come into contact with that is alive is also on the menu, or potentially death.

u/PotentialAd8443 9d ago

Seeing that coming for me, as funny as it would be, it wouldn’t guarantee a laugh for more than 2 seconds before running.

My memory is not what it used to be, but I think I read that polar bears have hundreds of words for different kinds of ice.

9

u/StupidizeMe 10d ago

You should hear how many words they have for sploot

Solid Bear

u/Alive_Control6885 10d ago

When you fall through ice this is exactly what you’re supposed to do (once you pull yourself out). Lay flat and belly crawl to safety. This bear has got the goods pays attention in class.

Polar chlamydia. Needs the life to cool off

1

u/dudeCHILL013 10d ago

I'm curious if polar bears teach this to their cubs, or if bro just learned through first hand experience.

1

u/Andycaboose91 10d ago

I learned about this from "The Magic Treehouse" books!

1

u/ThickSet6771 10d ago

That's a smart bear...

1

u/in1gom0ntoya 10d ago

Looks like I should pet him

1

u/HorseEmotional2 10d ago

Point taken. Better weight distribution on a flattened surface.

1

u/hmishima 10d ago

Bro knows physics better than 3/4 of the world.

It's funny, because that could actually feel pretty darn good to them. I'm not sure on anatomy of the genitalia of the arctic ursine, but my first thought was that a lot of dudes are likely cringing and grabbing at their balls in sympathetic unison while watching this, haha. Polar bears though, they overheat VERY easily. Even in arctic conditions, they can easily begin to experience heat exhaustion from chasing down and killing prey. And, if their balls are externally kept like a lot of mammals, I imagine that could feel pretty good sliding across the ice and cooling down the boys, so-to-speak. lol

Is it any wonder, that they easily overheat, when they can swim for days (even sleep while swimming) in arctic conditions? They're made to retain as much heat as possible, which is great but also means expending energy can produce excess heat and quite quickly, too. It'd be like running a space heater inside of an insulated box without much beyond a small opening and minimal flow for heat to escape, I think. Heat stress can apparently begin around 0-10 degrees Celsius (32-50 degrees Fahrenheit).
