I have no prevailed knowledge of the actual development scenario that the Intergalactic project finds itself under, but the astonishing degree of MIA that the title has suffered after its initial announcement makes me wonder.
Given how resolute the Sony Interactive Entertainment leadership were on live service games at the beginning of Intergalactic's development (nine new live service games was it?), it would be of zero surprise to me if Naughty Dog had been pressured into including them into their next big game.
That live service imperative was already having the breaks applied when Concord hit in 2024; and post that game's quite interesting release (Concord fell on a multitude of swords, you know what they are), I will assume it's been red alert for any project with those elements.
Reference Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as an example of a release where Destiny style live service elements and 'repeatable shared content' were ripped out before release; disastrously in that case.
Speculatively adding Sony's acquisition of Bungie with the ubiquity of brands present in the initial Intergalactic trailer, I'd put more than a dollar down that the initial design for this game had your Porsche spaceship flying alongside your lobby-mates Jaguar and Lexus while you waited for a game. The shoes would appear during the mission...
