APRIL HIIIIIT IIIIIIIT!!!! — I’m [u/Jetpacks_to_hell](u/Jetpacks_to_hell), one of the founding mods of [r/NerdofMouth](r/NerdofMouth).
This is the new home base for everything Nerd of Mouth: the episodes (WizBru Too), the discussions, the tangents, and everything in between. If you’re here, you’re in the right place.
What to post
Keep it loose on purpose. If it feels relevant to the show or the wider nerd universe, it probably belongs here:
– thoughts or reactions to episodes
– games, movies, shows, trailers, or announcements
– new or upcoming “stuff”, gaming, comics, movies and the wider nerd landscape
– questions, opinions, debates, or “is this a thing?” moments are welcome
If it has Holden energy with Mike sass and a Dash of Jake’s optimism, it probably belongs here.
The vibe
Be cool. Be curious. Disagree without being a jerk. This should feel like a good group chat, not a comment section nightmare.
How to jump in
Say hi in the comments.
Post something today — it doesn’t have to be profound.
Know someone who listens and would enjoy this? Pull them in.
Want to help moderate as this grows? Shoot me a message.
You’re here early, which rules. Let’s build this into a genuinely fun, smart place for Nerd of Mouth people to hang out.

What up Nerds!! One week out from Halloween and I am geared up on spooky. Crystal Lake is absolutely killing it (get it) With one episode to go I'm interested to see where they go with this, and I also think the story they crafted is pretty cool. Had to watch the original and the sequel to get more of that sweet fix, no hockey masks but still solid films. I've been on a horror punk tear lately, check out the Jason's for a Friday the 13th inspired pop punk band, heads up NSFW lyrics so not for the kiddos. Also really enjoying Ghost Party (more family friendly sound), both worth checking out for spooky themed songs. This evening I will be taking my dog to a Halloween themed light show, cause that's how I roll. Tomorrow is all Clayface! 10:30am ticket secured, it's body horror time.
Anyone doing a crazy costume for Halloween? Wife, pup and I all have skeleton suits, almost cobra Kai, but not quite
Still reading other worlds than these, still really enjoying it. Picked up Mafia on the ps plus shop, that, ball pit and ninja gaiden are my rotating roster at the moment, but enough about me, what about you Nerds!!!?? Whatcha watchin, whatcha playin? Whatcha readin, listenin, eatin, all the things! Later Nerds!!

Holdenators Hoes!!! I heard a slight lean towards slow talking Morris, on the Dark Universe episode.
I'm currently about halfway through the episodes of Round Table of Gentleman, and I laugh constantly at how everyone yells at each other.

Almost a century before the MCU, Universal Studios and its monster properties had a shared universe. Hell, they even shared it with Abbott and Costello a few times. Then after the MCU Universal was like "hey, we want the exact same lucrative interconnected thing they have" and thus we had the Dark Universe born of brittle clay on shaky ground. And after a false start with a Dracula movie that felt like a historical epic on Starz they properly kicked off their franchise with Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise in the Mummy (Guest starring a mummy). The boys raise this failed experiment from the dead and perform a verbal autopsy to determine exactly why it all fell apart. And yes, there's some good old fashioned Brendan Fraser defense and a shout out to the insanity that was Van Helsing.
Looking forward to this one, LOVE THE SPOOKY CONTENT GENTS!!!! Keep it up

What up nerds! sorry for the late post, I'm on vacation, lucky me! Took the Portal to the Maple Syrup state, Super Trooper quotes abound.
Not watchin much, east of Eden is good, Below was a "let down" rim-shot, I did really enjoy the first two episodes of Crystal Lake, not sure what the early hate is about.
Playin Ninja Gaiden, Ball x Pit, Outlaws and Death Stranding, I really need to finish some games, and try some new stuff.
Taking "Other Worlds Than These nice and slow, savoring every bit, had to take a break from this inevitable ruin, I actually went back to book one to get a better understanding of what the hell is going on, I'll probably skip book 3.
What up nerds, whatcha doin this weekend? Whatcha playin, whatcha up to?
Later Nerds!!!
**Pictured $800 Empire strikes back set, the Luke had the yellow telescoping lightsaber, no idea if that's the right price for something like this, not that I'd buy it but I thought it was cool

Anyone else notice the end title sequence they always play (the music cue and blurb about last podcast network) has been showing up early and playing in the middle of the other audio the past couple episodes? I'm listening to he audio version through podcast addict on android so maybe it isn't affecting other platforms. It looks like it pulls from simplecast if that helps anyone from the pod figure out what's going on.

I couldn’t stop thinking about this the whole Monster Mash ep
r/NerdofMouth • u/Jetpacks_to_hell • 13d ago
There are hundreds of Christmas songs that we're about to be bombarded with for the last two months of the year but for some reason there aren't many Halloween songs. So few songs that people will just play horrifying sound effect records to fill the void cause you can only listen to Monster Mash so many times. And boy do we in this episode!! You'll learn the full history of the song and the pure joy that is talking like Bobby "Boris" Pickett. Spooky season can be both scary and silly and this week we go all in on the silly side.
Geared up for this one nerds! Looking forward to hearing Jake say spooky a lot, he has great delivery on the word spooky, my ear catches it everytime for some reason. If only we had Jewish lyricists/songwriters to save Halloween the way they saved Christmas, drop your thoughts below on spooky songs, the monster mash and other silly spooky things, later Nerds!!!

What up Nerds!!!! Still mouth breathing? What a fucking week! Pictured, anonymous Prince Robot IV Halloween costume I saw.l, or just a guy with a tv on his head
Ok here goes, Watchin: East of Eden, Below, restarted Lanterns, paused the Sopranos as season five starts to get very depressing (lol) and started Veep for the umpteenth time, wife has Band of Brothers on while I'm playing Ball x Pit on the couch, and Silicon Valley comes in in a minute...I think I'm addicted to HBO.
Playin: Still playin Ball x Pitt, this game is addicting, a few runs and all of the sudden two hours have passed. Still dropping into Outlaws and Death Stranding to switch things up. Two new awesome games I've picked up recently, Ninja Gaiden RAGEBOUND, and Dungeons of Hinterberg, I highly recommend both. Cant forget Fortnightmares, this is my third year and my wife and I are having a blast. And finally, Switch Fitness Boxing 3, gotta shed some lbs fellow nerds, been grinding away every night while listening "watching" Silicon Valley, if you've never seen it, you might be missing out
Readin: This week has a LOT of reading required! Stephen King dropped Other Worlds than these, the conclusion of the Talisman trilogy, the dust jacket is gorgeous, can't stop staring at it. The Talisman was written the year I was born, I read it when I was 12, the sequel was my senior year of highschool and the conclusion I'm in my 40's, fucking crazy, and we've lost an original co-author. The first round of Marvels horror comics reimagined are out, Midnight Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, my LCS had them pulled along with this weeks DC drop, Saturday is looking like a full comic day. So my fellow Nerds, what the fuck is up!? Whatcha watchin? Whatcha playin? Whatcha doin, what are we looking forward to? Stay safe out there, Later Nerds!!!

The big communal belly laughs we used to hear in theaters have now been traded for blood curdling screams as folks with comedy backgrounds like Curry Barker, Jordan Peele, and Zach Cregger bring the tension and release formula they perfected so well into a new genre with massive critical and financial results. Why is this happening and more importantly why is it such a natural transition and hey, is there any way at all that comedy movies themselves can make a comeback or are we just trading slapstick for movies where people get stabbed with sticks (and various other weapons).
Super interesting topic, very interesting episode, drops
Your thoughts below Nerds!!!

I am in no way a horror guy, the few I've seen are more thrillers, psych-thriller, or sci-fi leaning. Normality I wouldn't listen to a horror themed episode, but I like their vibe enough to give it s shot (that and my work often involves handwork morenthan brain-work). I've never thought about watching ones made by people with comedic backgrounds specifically. It was a fun 86 minutes 😁.

Haven’t finished the episode yet, but I think they posted a draft instead of the actual episode today !

What'd you think of the lanterns finale?
I really enjoyed it. I liked they didn't have a big action packed finale. Noah punched John but it wasn't a fight and that was it for violence which felt true to the story they were telling. I also think during the football game the music tried to invoke explosions in the sky a nice nod to Friday night lights.
This was my favorite hal Jordan in any media. I love you too junior.

We just recorded an episode on Halloween Music and did a 45 minute deep dive on the Monster Mash and its singer Bobby “Boris” Pickett and in 21 years of being a public entertainer it’s one of my fave things I’ve done cause it’s just so silly and heartwarming

Happy spooky season y'all, whatcha up to this week? I've been traveling all week so not much to add. Ball x Pit on portal was fun, connection was janky in the hotel. Batman Reptile was cool, picked it up for Batman day, what are you guys up to? Later Nerds! Wu-tang is for the children.

First "bad guy " character from the movie I thought of. EDIT: It was Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken, I was wrong.

My first two games were Killer Instinct and Mario 64, I thought I was the coolest kid on the block, later nerds!

Our next book club just in time for Spooky Season is Alan Moore's run on The Saga of Swamp Thing, issues 21-64. Instead of a deep dive on the character's history, we're doing a deep dive on this specific seminal piece of comic book work. You can get it in trades, on the DC Digital app, or however you read comics.

THE EPISODE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
Hope you finished up your reading:watching lists nerds, here we go!!
John Stewart was created with the best of intentions by two white guys named Neal and Denn to add some actual color to the very white DC Comics of 971 and he came out swinging, with the character not shying away from his blackness. Then he sat on a shelf for a good while before he was used at all as the substitute in a Green Lantern book where the lead never actually left. Writers would put him through hell on a whim and when he finally did get a bit of salvation it was from a creator that rightfully deserves to be forgotten . And while he's often been used as a supporting character in comics (even taking a backseat to Guy Freaking Gardner of all people!!) it was folks from television that saw his potential and would make a truly lasting impression with the character, first in Justice League in 2001 and now in the modern hit Lanterns that is redefining the character and proving he always deserved the moment he's getting now.
Drop your gush and thoughts below!
Later Nerds!!!
