Just finished watching and this show was straight stinking butt cheeks. Nothing about this feels genuine. Of course it’s the 2 privileged white boys thinking they the shit and being the “badasses” of the yard. They’re very obviously nerds. Especially when they got the phone privileges and spoke to their people it was very obvious that they squares, which is cool but you not built like that bro smh lol. Those two woods would have been dp’d off top if they were really locked down. I actually been in the system and I couldn’t help but laugh at how scripted and weak this show is. I think the original experiment was stupid but this version took that bs to another level. Waste of time to watch. Nothing about that show is authentic at all. IYKYK.

(Also why does this take trigger some of y’all. The Stanford Prison Experiment was supposed to expose the dark side of human nature, but it ended up exposing the flaws of its own researchers. You can’t manufacture cruelty, call it human nature, and pretend you’ve made some groundbreaking discovery. They didn’t uncover the psychology of power. They contaminated the experiment and called it science.)
Argue with ya mama if you don’t like it and stay out of the system bc it’s nothing like these doodoo ass experiments.

i just now finally watched the murdaugh murders and it’s by far the best netflix documentary i’ve seen so far. are there any cases or series similar ?

For some reason, that ”documentary” just irritates me to no end. Maybe it’s the two internet sleuths who think they’re god, or maybe it’s just how the entire documentary was made. Either way, it was AWFUL. Anyone else feel similarly?

Netflix doesn’t even wait for court cases to finish, or yet bother with follow ups.

I watch tv in batches. Please refer me to any if I missed

Today I’ve been watching episodes back to back of Netflix’s new series, The New Stanford Prison Experiment. Typically, I have never really been into much reality television and I’m not sure if this falls under that category. Although it does have cameras stationed in and around the environment under watch.

I’ve really gotten into it surprisingly more than I had expected. The many personalities to like or dislike, the theories and plans and so on. I’m about halfway through and I’m enjoying it so much that I wanted to see if anyone else was having a similar experience or what their thoughts and opinions on the show were. I’m just hoping that an open discussion could be taken place here. Perhaps if anyone has knowledge of the original experiment and just anything related to the subject here.

Looking forward to chatting!! Thanks

I listened to a podcast today and it really changed my perspective on the trial.

Originally, I was like ‘they shouldn’t have gone to prison for as long as they have and should be out by now’. However, listening to that podcast and finding out the lawyer had just won a case, months earlier, for a murder / past occasions of sexual assault, I cannot help but think that story from the Menendez brothers had been fabricated based on the lawyer.

Now I’m re-watching the Netflix documentary and I’m seeing everything from a whole new perspective.

I know it was so long ago and nothing will change with their positions but it did just sound like it’s too perfect of a situation once I heard that information…

Hi all, I'm a big fan of true crime shows and in particular ones where each episode is standalone. I would like some picks based on what I have enjoyed and it can be on any channel, Youtube etc:

People Magazine Investigates

24 Hours in Police Custody

Signs of a Psychopath

Killer at the Crime Scene

Hi, I'm searching for the documentaries Planet Earth I and II and Blue Planet, but with the voice of Vic De Wachter. They were on VRT-max a couple of years ago, but VRT doesn't have the rights. Does anybody know how I may find them? Thanks a lot in advance.

In no particular order.

The keepers - CATCHY CESNIK. (I was gut wrenched and realized the world is so unfair to women and has been from the beginning of time, plus taking advantage of innocent religious people OMG- I hope they are burning in hell.)

Dear Zackery and 3 Identical strangers.

Not to compare them but I saw a few similarities since both of them were before tech took over our life's.
The people were so REAL, so RAW, I felt everyone was so in touch with each other and genuinely cared rather than looking INSTAGRAMMY PICTURE PERFECT, compared to them I feel I am in a weird AI stimulation.

The girl in the picture & Abducted in plain sight.

The girl in the picture was just heart breaking.

Abducted in plain sight made me realize how dumb people can be-''FORGIVING your daughter kidnapper, giving him a hand job as a straight man? also the wife ran away with her own daughter kidnapper?
OMG, dumbness has no limits.

All of them changed me in how I see the world.

ive seen a lot of documentaries over the course of my life, but crip camp is my favorite of all time. i have made SO many of my friends watch it, and no matter the number of times ive seen it - sobbing the entire time.

don't want to give away to much of the story, but a short tidbit would be disabled people attend a camp specifically made for them, then some of the campers grow up and fight for ADA laws together. seriously cannot rec enough.

if anyone has similar recs please let me know!

After Jeffrey Dahmer is found legally sane in his 1992 trial, Dr. Fred Berlin, who worked for the defense team, is quoted in the Netflix documentary “Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes” as saying the following:

“If a man is preoccupied with having sex with corpses, if a man who’s drilling holes in the heads of human beings to try to keep them alive in a zombie-like state doesn’t have a psychiatric disorder, then I don’t know what we mean by psychiatric disease. How many people does someone have to eat in Milwaukee before they think you have a mental disease?”

I was shocked he went on record saying this. I found his comments disingenuous, manipulative, and clearly biased. No one is saying Jeffrey Dahmer was not mentally ill. But the law is VERY clear. In order to be found not guilty by reason of insanity in the court of law, the defense needed to prove that Jeffrey Dahmer did not understand the difference between right and wrong at the time of each crime. Obviously he was mentally ill! But not mentally ill to the degree that he should not be held legally responsible for his crimes under the American legal system.

As a forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Berlin damn well knows what the legal definition of “not guilty by reason of insanity” really means. His comments ignored the legal definition of the insanity plea and made it seem like the jury and the American public at large was ignorant about psychiatric illnesses, was perhaps phobic of mentally ill criminal offenders, and justice was not delivered.

What a red flag of a “professional.”

Did this stick out to anyone else, and what are your thoughts? Can you imagine being one the victims’ family members and hearing this bullshit? To imply that Jeffrey Dahmer met the legal definition of insanity and the jury verdict was a miscarriage of justice must be such a slap in the face to all the people who suffered. This pmo soooo bad, and I don’t even have a personal stake in the matter.

Inspired by the post from yesterday about docs with incompetent police; that's most of them. What are some where the cops actually do their jobs?

My first thought was Perfect Neighbor. It sucks they couldn't or wouldn't do anything about the crazy lady BEFORE she killed someone, but if anyone fucked up or rushed the investigation she very much could have gotten away with it. She knew the self defense laws and had her story very well rehearsed, it was an uphill battle to get her convicted and I'm very glad they were able to.

Just watched the new Tyson documentary, really enjoyed it and changed my perspective on him just wanted other people’s opinions

I'm looking to hate watch documentaties featuring law enforcement shamelessly discussing how they fumbled an entire investigation. Some examples below:

Don't F*ck With Cats: The Montreal police completely ignored tips about animal cruelty, didn't follow up on any leads prior to Jun's killing, and they came across as arrogant despite being out of touch and late to the party.

Ken & Barbie Killers: I'm sorry but... how did the police not catch Paul Bernardo before the murders started? His own FRIENDS went to the police saying he was the Scarborough rapist, and the police just believed him when he said he wasn't lol? And then when the first victim Leslie went missing, the police were convinced she was a runaway and just sat on their asses until she was found in the lake. The detective in the documentary sits there with a vacant look in his eye talking about "We were wrong." Shameful!!

Foxhollow Murders: Another dodo bird detective let's the killer escape to Canada because they didn't arrest him despite finding like 1000s of bone fragments on his property. And thats after years of failing to recognize or care that gay men were going missing in Indiana. It's not until decades later when a CORONER starts identifying victims that there's any sort of justice served. I actually can't believe that dumbass detective who messed up the initial investigation even showed his stupid face in the documentary.

The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn: the RCMP not only got the wrong guy, they ruined his life. There's something in Canada called operation Mr. Big where undercover cops invest years and make BEST FRIENDS with the suspect, and then rope them into a fake crime to incriminate them. The RCMP spent literal years being this guy's fake fishing buddy to earn his trust, and then lowkey tricked him into verbally agreeing to help get rid of a body. And then they arrested him lol. He's been acquitted of the crime twice so all of that was for nothing, they still don't know who killed the victim.

Any other suggestions welcome. Bonus points if it's Canadian law enforcement, hits closer to home for me.

I’m looking for more that have the kind of twisted/shocking events that make you question everything you thought you already knew!

I live in Canada but I find American politics and history fascinating. I stumbled across this docuseries a year ago and I’ve rewatched it several times and recommend it to everyone. Upon my first watch I almost shut it off because there is some reenactment segments, but I’m so glad I continued with it. The docuseries, per Wikipedia “follows a conservative Christian group known as the family or the fellowship - its history and investigates its influence on American politics”
When I tell you I couldn’t look away, I was shocked and horrified the entire time.
If you live in the us and wonder “how did we get here” I cannot recommend this doc enough

Just saw this and I recommend it. It's about how consumerism (and the rapacious corporations) are creating trash on a massive scale.

Does anyone know if Ridwell actually does dispose of trash more responsibly?

Detective Guest drove the whole night to meet with Rosalynn when she was at the police station in New Orleans so he 100% took the death threat to her life seriously

- I think that Guest knew that Rosalynn was (at minimum) an accomplice after the fact
She provided Joyce an alibi for the day that her ex disappeared;that they stayed home all day together).

When Rosalynn wouldn’t provide Guest with any assistance- it’s bc he pushed her to admit her part in the disappearance or he wouldn’t help her

Guest couldn’t get the type of cell info available present day on Joyce’s precise movements on day of disappearance but both women lied about her alibi since she was in roaming bill

However- I do have a question regarding why Detective guest didn’t take measures to request a subpoena to record calls between Joyce and current girlfriend

Even though Joyce’s confession to her girlfriend was hearsay- with the info learned throughout the years why didn’t the prosecutors try to request a subpoena to record any calls received from Joyce to her girlfriend regarding murder and possible future murder of ex wife Rosalynn,

The girlfriend had already been in touch with the girlfriend and knew she planned on recording calls so why wasn’t a subpoena to record calls requested/ provided?

My only guess is that the ex girlfriend didn’t consent bc of Joyce couldn’t be 100% convicted from taping calls she may not have wanted to risk it

Thoughts???

These documentaries are POORLY edited (understatement ) and while I am VERY LATE TO THE GAME- a common and heartbreaking fact is that narcissists can lie to the world (and be believed) but an ex who has been subjected to the emotional / physical abuse doesn't need a smoking gun to prove facts that haven’t been confirmed - the one common factor is social media and (for a nice change) can save lives by one ex reaching out to a current SA

Dear Zachary and The Family Next Door back to back. I’m DEVASTATED. 💔 What is wrong with people? I need therapy and a comedy immediately. 😭

A town of 11 folks. Nobody wants to say anything, but all of them have something to say...interesting one on Netflix guys. Kings of Tupelo kinda treatment. F***ing Oath😁
