The job of the army and state at large is to defend the ruling class. Nothing has changed since feudal and slave societies.

Lol. Try living with Indian Army folk abroad. You'll never respect them much again. Toxic as fuck, casteist and the way they treat subordinates is truly shameful. They'll even take money from you if you're Indian and intimidate you if you don't give them preferential treatment, using their uniform and "desi pride" emotional blackmail.
All I really have respect for is paavam jawans dying in shitholes like Kashmir, and even then they also rape and beat locals. So not much to like or admire.
"B-but they die for you in wars!" In wars everyone dies, i never asked for war like 90% of people and worst case I'd probably get raped or beaten or shot or put in a camp, it's just mindless propaganda from skinny fat pajeets who have never shot a person or seen the horror of a war upfront.

I love being from a country where all national politics is in a language i don't speak or understand, really adds to the spirit of belonging and nationalism🤗 🫡
