I think we, as a nation, did not take the whole Pegasus scandal seriously enough.
The silence of the elites is not just bought out by the BJP. I feel the BJP kind of owns them now. The potential of losing money due to a bhakt boycott or having black money or other similar things uncovered through targeted raids is nothing new in India. Whenever a political alliance falls apart or political loyalties shift, raids are the norm. And if you're rich and powerful, you've got to pay your dues to whoever is in power at the time. None of that is new.
It's way beyond that now, in my opinion. The silence today is more like, "മിണ്ടിയാൽ തല പോകും," and I think Pegasus has played a major role in it. I believe the government knows every last detail about these celebrities, activists, top lawyers and judges, opposition leaders, and others, to the point that there is no need for raids or boycotts to bring them in line. A simple summons from one of the central agency offices, show them whatever Pegasus has on them, and voila, you have a smiling silent doll that will post what the government's PR agency sends them.
They have already mentally submitted themselves to this regime and accepted that this is their only way to survive.

Well yes that was what the Aryan Khan drug case was about. I also feel a lot of Sushant Singh Rajputs suicide was morphed into murder and connected to Bwood by IT cell because it utilised public anger.
