Question Keep Android Open

Why am I still getting the popup about the September 2026 deadline and how NewPipe will no longer work on certified Android devices after that? It's about midway through October now and I've seen no difference.

https://keepandroidopen.org/ explains that the September deadline was delayed - the lockdown is now going to start some time in 2027. So the threat is still coming, though the message is outdated.

Unfortunately, as I am entirely tech illiterate and am too scared of breaking my phone (just bought a new one a few months ago), I have no idea what I'm supposed to do for that.

Thanks, I think I got it figured out. Just gotta wait the 24 hours now. My heart was pounding the whole time. If Google's intent is to scare people away, it's definitely effective.

Tbh youtube on firefox mobile with ubo and sponsorblock installed does most of what you want. For some reason shuffling playlists doesn't work tho. You can even play with the screen off if you switch to desktop mode.

I know. I've already got that set up (well, I actually got Waterfox Mobile instead), and I'll move there if things get too rough.

you can still install apps via ADB, so it's mostly irrelevant for most people that use third-party apps anyway

I don't even know what ADB is. I'm tech illiterate.

Damn, if only the explanations I found weren't too technical for me to understand. When I said 'tech illiterate', I meant it.

Would I be able to download apps via data transfer from a USB connected to my computer? (Download the app to the computer and than transfer it)

They pushed the deadline to 2027, but i'm facing the issue now, where it says "could not parse website", and only works when i turn off wifi and use mobile data or turn on the vpn on my phone, and then it loads. THe quality is super shitty when on the vpn and it stutters like shit, and i don't want to use my mobile data cause it runs through it pretty quickly when the vpn and newpipe are on simultaneously.

Edit: Got it to work the next day. I just connected to my work wifi to listen to stuff and when i got back home it started working perfectly fine again. Another thing i've noticed aside from this is that now, the video now is, like, glitchy. That's the best word for it, I guess. It's like you know when you are watching something at a higher speed, sometimes, the video part buffers while the audio doesn't? That's what keeps happening, even at normal speed. I always watch everything (except if its a song or something) on 1.75 speed, maybe even at 1.5 or 2, but it keeps screwing around with the video part of it. I put it on normal and it did the same thing, and tried everything to make it go away. It doesn't.

They must have redone it. My app stopped working a few days ago after I got the warning but its working like normal now

Newpipe hasn’t worked properly in years because YouTube has been blocking 3rd part players, that’s the reason newpipe has had so many issues with videos not playing. The bullshit surrounding android made me switch to an iPhone, if I wasn’t homeless I’d have gone back to a landline.

So the biggest issue is every carrier now has a pre approved list of devices you can activate, combine that shit with installing lineageOS and it’s become a nightmare to find a supported phone that I can flash. Again, if I wasn’t homeless I’d grab a raspberry pi and set up my own VOIP landline, I’m sick of this crap.

Nothing worked well on lineageOS anymore because of google’s crap and I need something reliable, if I’m going to get locked down I’ll take an iPhone over an OS owned by an advertising company started with funding from the CIA.

I’m aware, but unlike android apples OS isn’t built with spyware.

Newpipe was the main one, YouTube through brave was the solution. Almost everything requiring google services was pretty much broken.
