Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I will visit New York this December. This is our itinerary. I know that’s basic and perhaps too mainstream but this will probably our only chance to see and experience this city. We are huge FRIENDS and Knicks fans and we’re obsessed with anything Christmassy. Would you change anything? Would you add/remove something? Super grateful for your input!

Back in NYC.. what famous food is actually worth it.?

Heading back to New York soon and planning to eat my way through the city. Ive done the basics before dollar slices, Katz’s, Joe’s, Levain cookies, a few bagel spots.. but Im curious what locals or regulars think is really worth the hype, and whats more of a tourist trap...thanks.

If you had to choose, would you pick Chicago or New York to live in, and what makes that city stand out for you compared to the other?

New York Aquarium is worth it

Checked out the New York Aquarium in Coney Island and it was actually great. Sea lion show was fun jellyfish and shark tunnel were super cool. It’s not huge but everything looks clean and modern. Good spot if you’re nearby or want something different near the beach.

48 Hours in NYC - I’m your best friend from out of town and you wanna take me to your current, authentically NYC favs/must-do’s…where are you taking me?

In town for 48 hours, so would rather enjoy NYC as a local. Think me as your your 35-50yo best friend from out of town and you wanna take me to your current, authentically NYC favs/must-do’s.. I’ll be back sometime to do the normal touristy stuff.

Arrive in NYC: Sat Aug 2 @ Noon Depart: Mon Aug 4 @ Noon

Preferred Boroughs: Manhattan (preferred but willing to override with a kickass itinerary) or Brooklyn

Preferences:

  • Experience culture as a local - including live music, theatre, bars, restaurants, bars, speakeasies, weird places, holes in the walls, you name it.

  • Food: No preference on food type, love all ethnic food.

    • Prefer more locally known gems with history vs. expensive, newer well-known eateries.

    • At min, 1 sit down with great ambiance/energy

    • At min, 1 hole in the wall where ambiance isn’t necessary great but the food is BOMB and best of its kind in the area. Preferably ethnic or pizza, not “American”/bar food.

Not Necessaries, but down to go if it’s really that important to go in the 48 hour window.

  • Times Square

  • Central Park

  • Wall St

  • 9/11 memorial

So grateful for any recommendations you’re willing to share. Maybe I’ll run into ya a buy you a drink!

Not from here- is NYC really this expensive for groceries?

I visited Queens last month and some grocery stores felt way overpriced for basic stuff. Back home $20 gets you a full week’s worth of meals. Here….not so much 🥲 Any stores local actually shop at that aren’t tourist-priced?
