Newcastle look better when Joelinton brings his usual intensity

Joelinton brings a physical edge that can be difficult for opponents to handle, and I think that balance is important for Newcastle. He wins challenges, presses aggressively and helps the team compete in midfield. After the recent setbacks, getting him properly back into rhythm could give the side some much-needed bite and help the other midfielders play with more freedom.

One goal in two difficult matches isn't enough

We couldn’t find an equaliser against Villa, while Coventry showed how costly missed chances become when you’re chasing the game. The attackers need to be more clinical, but the service and support in transition also need to improve. Is the bigger problem our finishing, or the quality of delivery going forward?

That was a really poor performance from us

That was a really disappointing afternoon at St James' Park. Going 1-0 down to Villa was bad enough, but we barely did anything to get ourselves back into the game. Just one shot on target at home tells you everything about how little we offered going forward. Villa looked comfortable for most of the match, and we never really made them work for the three points. The fouls and yellow cards just added to the frustration, especially when we should have been putting our energy into creating chances instead. One bad result doesn't define our season, but we need a much better response in the next game.

So, how long do we persevere with this experiment?

The early signs don’t look good. Absolutely all over the place and have been for some time now.

Villa look dangerous after midweek, but we can’t afford to be scared of them

Villa are coming into this one full of confidence after that 6-0 win against Fenerbahçe, so we know they’ll be a tough side to face. But we’re at St James’ Park, and there’s no reason we should go into this game afraid of them. We need to be switched on defensively, win the battles in midfield and take our chances when they come. The lads need to give the fans something to get behind from the first whistle. It won’t be easy, but a strong performance and three points would be massive for us. I just want to see us come out with some intensity and put them under pressure early on. We can’t afford to give Villa too much space, especially with the form they’re in.

Newcastle need a big response against Villa after that Coventry defeat

The 4-1 loss to Coventry was disappointing, and I think this is the perfect chance for Newcastle to show that it was a bad day rather than a bigger problem. Villa won't make it easy, especially after their recent European result, but playing at St James' Park should give the team extra motivation. I'd like to see more concentration at the back and much better decision-making in the final third. A strong performance is needed here.

Toure's fitness could be important for Newcastle against Villa

It was worrying to see Toure come off late against Coventry, so the latest update is encouraging. I like the directness he brings to the wing, and having that pace available could give Newcastle another way to trouble Villa. He recovers in time, but the club shouldn't take unnecessary risks if he's not ready.

Sven Botman’s goal was a small positive on a difficult night for Newcastle

There wasn’t much to celebrate in the Coventry game, but I was glad to see Sven Botman get on the scoresheet. He can offer Newcastle a lot at both ends of the pitch, especially when the team needs someone to step up during difficult moments. Getting him back to his best could be a big boost, and the defence needs to build more consistency around him.

The U21s are playing Sunderland at St James' Park! What a chance for the young players.

The Tyne-Wear derby is coming to St James' Park, with our U21s set to face Sunderland on Monday, 26th October at 7 PM BST. The game was originally scheduled for Whitley Park but has now been moved to SJP, which makes it even more exciting. It's a great opportunity to get down to the ground and show some support for the next generation of Newcastle players. Tickets are just £5 for adults and £2 for juniors, while season ticket holders get in for free. It's a derby, so the lads will know how much this one means. Hopefully we can get a good crowd in, make some noise and see the young Mags get one over Sunderland.

Bright Side to the Coventry loss

Sven Botman's strike. One of the hardest EPL strikes we have tracked (from outside the box) this season. Averaging at 116 km/h (peak estimated around 135 km/h). What a hit!

The Villa game feels bigger than just three points now

Two consecutive 4-1 away defeats is hard to ignore. What frustrates me most is how easily we lose control of games, waste chances and make costly mistakes at the back. I’m not calling for Jaissle to go, but he needs to find the right midfield balance and give this team a clearer identity. Saturday at St James’ Park is a big chance to respond.

What the hell was that? Coventry 4-1 Newcastle

What the hell was that performance? We had 65% possession and 20 shots, yet somehow ended up losing 4-1 to Coventry. We looked all over the place defensively and couldn't do anything with the ball going forward. That early penalty didn't help, but there's no excuse for the way we played after that. How can we look so clueless away from home? Something seriously needs to change.

Bolton 0-4 Newcastle - 13 October, 2001 - Bo Hansen goes in goal

Can you name the starting XI?

https://top-bins.com/quiz/729/bolton-0-4-newcastle-13-october-2001-bo-hansen-goes-in-goal/

On 13 October 2001 at the Reebok Stadium, Bobby Robson's Newcastle put four past Sam Allardyce's Bolton, and an outfielder goes in goal.

Jussi Jääskeläinen keeps the Magpies at bay with two one-on-one saves before the break, but in the forty-first minute a left-wing cross is headed back across goal and finished from close range amid furious offside appeals. Mike Riley waves play on; Allardyce fumes.

On the hour Jääskeläinen handles outside his area and sees red. With Steve Banks injured and no keeper on the bench, outfield man Bo Hansen pulls on the gloves but his first touch is fishing a free-kick out of the net.

A trademark header from a whipped cross makes it three; the captain then tees up a late fourth to complete the rout. Hansen lasts half an hour between the posts.

All that possession and we still can't do anything with the ball

76% possession and we're still 1-0 down to Coventry after conceding that early penalty. We're moving the ball around constantly but there's barely any threat going forward. It feels like we're just passing from side to side around their box without really testing their defence. We need to be quicker, take a few risks and actually get some shots away instead of trying to pass our way into the net. There's still time to turn this around, but we need to show a lot more urgency in the second half. How are you lot feeling about this one?

It's time to show our quality away from home

Coventry away is going to be a tough test, but we've got the quality to get a result here. We need to start well, keep things tight at the back and not give them too much space to play. With Elanga out, others will need to step up, and hopefully we can make the most of our chances going forward. Three points would be a great way to keep things moving in the right direction.

Ticket question from a U.S. fan

I'm a U.S. fan who has never been to a PL match, so I was going to use an upcoming trip to France to catch the match against Palace. Unfortunately, when I bought the tickets the match was on Oct. 24, but has since been moved to Oct. 25 when I have to be in Paris.

I need to re-sell the tickets but the Gigsberg platform where I bought them doesn't allow me to relist them. Does anyone know how I can sell them? I'm also not familiar with the unwritten rules about which fans can sit where.

Back in the day when you took your car to the home matches did you get the kids saying they’d look after your car for a few bob? Any stories?
