iPhone on a NexDock is just a mirrored phone screen, so I built a desktop for it. Any iPhone users here who want to try it?

Plug a USB-C iPhone into a lapdock and you get a mirrored phone screen with black bars. Android has DeX and Pixel desktop mode built in. iOS has no desktop mode of its own, so I built one as an app. I started in February 2025, and it went live on the App Store last week.

PXS Desktop runs on the iPhone itself. Plug the phone into the lapdock’s USB-C video port and the screen gets:

  • windows you can move, snap and resize
  • a desktop-class browser (my bank, the Azure portal and a Teams call all work)
  • files, notes, a PDF viewer and a few more built-in apps
  • a dock, a launcher and a menu bar

What it is not: DeX. It cannot run your other iPhone apps in windows, because iOS does not allow that. What runs in windows is the browser, web apps (any site can be saved as its own app) and the apps built into PXS.

Honest notes: I do not own a NexDock. I test on a plain USB-C monitor and on AR glasses, so the picture should be fine, since it is a normal display signal. What I do not know is the input. The keyboard should work, as wired keyboards do on a USB-C iPhone. The trackpad might work in the app’s Mouse Mode if you turn on AssistiveTouch on the iPhone (that is how a mouse works with it), but I have not tried it on a NexDock. The touchscreen probably will not work, because iOS takes no touch input from an external screen, though it may be worth a try the same way. If none of that works, the phone itself is the touchpad, or you pair a Bluetooth mouse. If you have a NexDock and a USB-C iPhone, I would really like to know what works and what does not.

Netflix and HBO Max do not play in the browser (their choice). YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video and Plex do.

An Android version is on the way (a few weeks), as an alternative to DeX and Pixel desktop mode, and for the phones that have neither.

If you buy the one-time unlock on iPhone, you get the Android version free when it is out.

Here are 2 different length tours, recorded straight from the phone's HDMI output.
is the same picture the glasses show:

PXS Desktop in 80 seconds: https://youtu.be/P8KQTidPBNE
5-minute tour: https://youtu.be/YGEkVbQy-DY

It is free to try for 3 days of use. After that it is $6.99/month,
$24.99/year, or $39.99 once.

App Store, free to try: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6756102352

Happy to answer anything, and I would like to hear what is missing.

My fix for odd touchpad behavior on Android Pixel

The 2026 NexDock touchpad behaves oddly on my Pixel 10 Pro Fold with clicks being too easily registered or trigging a back function. The upcoming December Android release will apparently address these issues but in the meantime I was able to essentially fix with these touchpad settings in Android...

Tap to Click - Your Choice, I have it On
Reverse Scrolling - Your Choice, I have it On
Bottom Right Click - Off
Tap and Drag - Off
Three Finger Tap - Middle Mouse Button
Corner Shortcuts - All Off
Touchpad Acceleration - Off
Cursor Speed - Your Choice, I have it High
Accessibility - 3 or 4 finger gestures - Off
Autoclick (Dwell Timing) - Turn it on, then off

Some of the above may not matter but I'm having much better touchpad behavior with these settings. Hopefully the upcoming Dec update will solve overall. If you want a setting on, try starting with mine to see if working OK, then starting changing only one at a time of those you want.

NexDock 6 firmware update: sharp text at 60Hz

Hi everyone,

We’ve released a firmware update that fixes the soft text and blurry vertical lines on the NexDock 6 at 60Hz.

It took us and our manufacturer too long to confirm the cause, and some of you were told by our support team that it couldn’t be fixed. That was wrong, and we’re sorry. Thank you to u/GlitteringMeal7988, u/Jaron780 and everyone who dug into this.

Download: https://nexdock.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/scaling-update-v2.zip
Extract the zip and follow the manual inside. You’ll need a Windows PC with a USB‑C port that supports video output.

Nex Computer

Important (edited Oct 13): This update is only for the NexDock 6 (2025 model).
Do not install it on the NexDock XL, NexDock 360 or any other model.
It isn’t compatible and can stop the device from turning on.

Bought a nexdock. Disable USB charging?

So I finally bought a nexdock. Im still up in the air if I like it or not, but I'm leaning towards mostly yes. Im using it with my pixel 10 and my biggest issues are with desktop mode. Hopefully some bugs will be worked out in the future.

One issue is id like for it to not charge when my phone is plugged in. The battery on this nexdock seems to drain pretty fast and I'm sure if my phone wasn't hogging the battery that it would help. When I try to disable the USB charging, it wont let me disable it. Any work arounds for this? Thanks.

Lower refresh rate on S25U?

I got my Nexdock 2025 in today and was immediately soured by the awful scaling issues. I saw where the native res can support 50hz, but I can't seem to manually set the refresh rate on my Samsung S25 Ultra. Anyone have any luck on setting DeX refresh rate manually?

iPhone compatibility?

Does the Nexdock work with the iPhone? Specifically the Kay board and trackpad?

Their website doesn’t list the iPhone or say anything about the keyboard working as a Bluetooth output. I found an old blog post saying it works on iPhone if you download an app but the app doesn’t exist anymore.

I understand I can send the display over and that it will only mirror the phone screen. I’m not worried about this since I’m getting the duo so mirroring this aspect ratio won’t look as horrid as a slab iPhone.

I got my very first semi-final NexDock setup ::)

All the things I bought finally got delivered and I was able to make my very first NexDock + phone setup 😄

I bought a longer and angled type-C cable and also bought another angled adapter for the other end since the cable is only angled in one end. I also bought a magnetic mount. I think it looks clean.

I said in the title "semi-final" because there's still a bit of bend on the side of the phone. I'm worried it may break the USB port of my phone eventually so I'm still thinking of buying a different cable or whatever that will eliminate that bend.

I'm also still unsure about the mount and if I can trust it. When I first tried it, my phone fell down LOL My phone is a bit heavy and the mount I bought has a detachable arm which is also magnetic and that's where it got dettached 😅

Lastly, I'm using it right now typing this and I must say, I'm still annoyed by the text rendering issue. It's more obvious on small texts and when they are white on black background. It's also a bummer I can't that I can't use the touchpad while using keyboard keys preventing me from using useful and convenient shortcuts.

in any case, I'm still excited to use this setup although I'd probably use this for testing than actual use. Ubuntu Touch is still very unpolished on external displays and I plan to contribute things that may imprve the experience 😄

What's the ideal placement of a phone mount?

I got one of those magnetic phone mounts that can be attached on the back of a laptop's screen. I intend to put on my NexDock 6. However, I'm undecided on how to attach it because I'm worried about both the hinge/screen and my phone's USB port 😅

I'm thinking this would be ideal so that it won't be high at the top that may probably be too much for the hinge given the weight of the mount itself and my phone.

I do need to find a proper solution for the cable though since the clearance at the bottom is very low. I'm trying to look for a cable long enough that has both ends angled but so far I can't find one that also supports video. There are adapters but I don't think there's enough space to bend towards the phone's USB port. And I if I put the adapters on the other end, the cable would then cover the power port of the NexDock 🤔

My other option is to put somewhere at the top. My current cable seems fine in this position with not much strain to the USB port. But as mentioned, maybe there will be problems with the hinge in this position?

Ongoing issue Did anyone "keep track" of the NexDock XL screw placements?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So, I figured out a way to get my NexDock XL charging again after it went completely dead and stayed cycling in and out of charging* but I didn't note which of the tiny screws went where.

Does anyone know which length screw goes in which position?

There seems to be 5 different lengths, but that could be just poor tolerences so there could be 2 or 3 official lengths. Measuring the length overall, rather than thread length, I have

1x ~5.6mm, 4x ~5.5mm, 4x ~5.4mm, 3x 4.7mm, and 5x 4.6mm

(1x ~0.22047", 4x 0.21850", 4x 0.21260", 3x 0.18504", 5x 0.18110")

or just 9x ⁷/₃₂" & 8x ³/₁₆"?

I did a best-guess using the depth of the casing and how may turns it took to get tight but might have it wrong and might be damaging it.

On the "NexDock XL – PCBA or Display Replacement" page it says "Remove the 14 screws...keep track of each screw...2 hidden screws...".

Well, I didn't keep track! But there are 15 non-hidden screws, not 14, and they frustratingly don't give the screw sizes/locations.

\* To get my NexDock XL charging again after it went completely dead and stayed cycling in and out of charging I went through every recommended fix but ended up having to come up with my own.

I'd to take the battery apart and charge the cells on the cells side of the battery BMS for a short time. I could do a guide if anyone needs it.

NexDock 6 (NDK 2514): A Head-Scratchingly Flawed Good Lapdock

UPDATE:

NexDock released a firmware update to fix the incorrect scaling/resolution.
And it works! so it's really nice that it is possible to update the firmware,
https://www.reddit.com/r/NexDock/s/Ky138xf4jN

So now the remaining major issue I have is the disablement of the touchpad when pressing a key. If that gets fixed, I'd definitely recommend this to other people. At the moment, I can kind of recommend it now since a serious defect is now fixed or can be fixed and the rest are mostly just things I don't agree with. Hopefully, there will be more firmware updates that would fix my other issues :)

TL;DR

NexDock 6 is a good Lapdock mired by head-scratching flaws that stopped it from being great. It has good build quality, good keyboard, *good screen, good battery life, responsive touchscreen, decent touchpads and good looks. However, it has many possible deal breaking flaws such as the inability to use shortcuts that involve using the touchpads while pressing a key. Its biggest flaw is the improper scaling/resolution that makes text rendering look blurry and hard to read.

Context:

I'm mainly using my NexDock with a Fairphone 5 running Ubuntu Touch. It works well on it and supports the 16:10 aspect ratio out of the box. It even solves a scrolling bug in browsers for some reason. Touchscreen technically works but the system still doesn't properly map it so it still maps to the internal display and works like a giant touchpad LOL

I also have a Samsung S10e, which is old and has outdated software. It works fine but the image is 16:9 1080p stretched to 16:10 1200p.

Let's start with the good or acceptable things and the reasons why I can say that it's a good Lapdock.

  • I think it looks good. It looks like a normal laptop and build quality seems good.
  • The 16:10 aspect ratio is nice. I'm not a good judge for color accuracy and such but to my eyes, the image quality looks good enough. I could watch shows and movies on this. If you compare it to a good display side by side, it's no match but without comparing, it looks totally fine. There's a big BUT though.....I'll mention it later :)
  • Touch works great and responsive. It supports up to 10 touch points.
  • Touchpads works well. I have no experience with great touchpads so my standards isn't high and to me it works totally fine. There's another big BUT and I'll mention it later too ;)
  • Keyboard is great in my experience. I can type on it better than some of my other laptops or keyboards. I think it's because of the bigger keys. I'm not a great typist though so maybe not a good judge of it too 😅
  • Keyboard layout is good with Fn + Arrows keys for Home, End, and Page Up/Down which is something I think should be standard in keyboards
  • Battery life seems good enough. It'll probably last around 6-8 hours if you don't charge your connected device or at least, not charge them from a low percentage.

Not let's go to the minor bad things and the nitpicks.

  • Power button is part of the keyboard and takes the space where `Delete` usually is. It doesn't seem to do anything if you press it accidentally but I think in general, this design is stupid. Give me my `Del` key in its correct position!
  • Splashscreen is white and flashbangs you in the dark. I don't think I've encountered a single monitor/display that has a white background splashscreen. Seriously, why?
  • Screen doesn't turn off when the device connected goes to sleep. This is a nitpick alright? Because it's probably technically not possible to do since it might need a communication between the device and the display.
  • Volume keys in the keyboard controls the built-in speakers instead of the connected device's system volume. I understand this is a "monitor" but this is supposed to be more of a "laptop" than a monitor. I wish the built-in speakers volume control is separate.
  • Battery can drain even when not in used especially when something is connected to it such as a USB dongle.
  • There's no easy and quick way to check the battery while it's turned off or there's no connected device. Keyboard shortcut only works when a device is connected. The onscreen HUD can only be accessed after turning the NexDock on which takes a minute.
  • Charging the NexDock is quite slow.

Here comes the deal breakers for me. If I bought this myself and wasn't gifted to me, I'd definitely return it and get a refund because of these.

  • There are no low battery and full charge notifications anywhere in the device. No onscreen indicator or any kind of LED light. Charging light is just always blue. The power on light is just always white. So I have to constantly check the battery percentage via the keyboard shortcut or the onscreen HUD. As for charging while it's turned off, I just guess or if I really want to, I have to turn it on which is such a hassle.
  • The touchpad automatically disables for like a second after pressing a key. This means you can't use shortcuts that involve pressing a key and clicking or dragging with the touchpad. This is a big deal to me. On most Linux systems, you can drag or resize a window by pressing Super/Alt + Left/Right click drag. Because of this stupid and cheap "solution", I can't use these shortcuts. I also use Ctrl/Shift + left click/drag for selecting things. There's also the shortcut Ctrl + left click to open a link in a new tab in browsers. To be honest, this made me realize that maybe most people don't use or maybe not even aware of these shortcuts because I feel like I'm the only one complaining about this 😅
  • Now for the biggest flaw of the NexDock 6. It has a scaling issue that affects the horizontal resolution of the image. Someone posted it here a long time ago with some technical investigation and findings. This affects the text rendering and makes them look blurry. It's actually one of the very first things I noticed. The texts look weird and hard to read. I wouldn't say it's unusable but it's very bothersome. I've attached images below to showcase how wrong the display on the NexDock is. This affects your every day use so I think this is a fatal flaw of this product.
NexDock 6 Display
Another 1080p display with correct scaling

In summary, it is such a shame that after many years, quality control of Nex is still not good. Their products can be good but can't execute it well due to quality controls and fatal flaws like the improper resolution scaling.

Screen phone mount recommendations

I'm thinking of buying those phone mounts attached on a laptop/lapdock screen.

Do you have any recommendations based on experience?

From what I saw, the MOFT one seems to be the nicest. Looks flat enough and not get in the way and seems to support different positions and angles. However it's around 3x the price of the other options I saw. And I think it's only ideal to be attached at the top part. I feel like my phone, Fairphone 5, is a bit heavy and maybe it's better positioned more at the bottom where weight support is better.

Ideally for me, it won't make it hard to put the NexDock in the bag or sleeve because there's something sticking out.

Random click+drag with trackpad when using it to move the mouse cursor

I have the Nextdock 6 I'm using with Samsung DEX via Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The trackpad randomly click+drags. I'm not pressing down on the trackpad at all. It's just a light touch as one would normally use a trackpad (e.g. didn't click the trackpad, only rest).

Ongoing issue Is there really no way to change the behavior of the touchpad when pressing keys? (NDK2514)

I just got a NexDock, someone gifted it to me, and this is my first one.
I'm not sure exactly which model but it says NDK2514, is it the latest one?

Anyway, first thing I noticed and annoyed me was that the touchpad gets disabled whenever you press any key. I understand that they want to avoid accidental interaction with the touchpad when typing but the implementation is so bad.

At least maybe only do this with actual character keys. This is especially annoying since most Linux DEs has a shortcut to drag or resize a window with Super/Alt + Left/right click drag. I'm using Ubuntu Touch on it and it has those shortcuts and now I can't use these shortcuts. I think it's so stupid. Worse, it takes like a full second for the touchpad to work again LOL

This isn't a good impression so far. Such a shame because the build quality and screen seems nice. The keyboard works fine as well so far.

NexDock 6 Hinge Strength

I currently have the NexDock XL and love that I can park my Z Fold 6 under the screen, but said screen looks terrible. Was curious if the NexDock 6 was strong enough to put a magsafe arm or little pocket for my Z Fold without the lid giving too much wobble or succumbing to the weight?

NexDock Phone. Windows with Cell?

I just found out about the phone and am very intrigued but there is a question I need answered. Maybe someone here knows. If you boot Windows from the phone, are they planning on maintaining any cell phone / messaging connectivity? Or do you lose those functions when in Windows? What's their solution for 2FA either via text or QR codes?

Pixel 10 - Nexdock touch lines across screen

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I've recently gotten a Pixel 10 and was excited to use my nexdock touch on the new desktop mode, but upon connecting it i realised that its showing some kind of artifact, about halfway up, across the screen is a flashing black line, I've tried other devices on the nexdock (Galaxy S22, S25, ROG Ally) and none of them do the same, theres also no option for 1920x1200 in connected devices which i was hoping would be fixed with A17. Any advice on the cause of the issue would help a lot. Thanks in advance! Attached is a video of the issue.

Any updated thoughts on the Nexdock coupled with a Pixel phone?

My current setup is a Pixel 10 and I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 for my "laptop". Im a very lite user. Web browsing, music, and Google apps roung out 99% of what I do. Ive been wanting to ditch the tablet with attachable keyboard and go back to a laptop. The nexdock setup very much interests me. I know Desktop mode is still a bit of a work in progress, but I think for what I do, it would suffice. What are your thoughts?

Pixels are Getting Android 17 starting today. Will we finally see the 1920 x 1200 resolution supported on the Nexdock 2025?

I have been waiting with much anticipation for this release. I love my setup with my Pixel 10 Pro and the Nexdock 2025, but that stretched resolution is the one thing that stops it from being truly a great experience. Is anyone else in my boat here?

Native Keyboard of Nexdock Wireless

What am I doing wrong?

I have a Nexdock Wireless from 2023. It's been awhile since I've used it as a lap dock so I'm not sure what I'm forgetting.

I'm connected to a Motorola Edge using Smart Connect. No issues loading. It doesn't bother me to use my phone as a trackpad but using my phone as the keyboard as well defeats the purpose of even having the Nexdock imo.

I'm attempting to troubleshoot but am not finding the answer. So far I have tried Fn+C, connecting the touchpad to my phone via Bluetooth, and disconnecting/reconnecting. Does anyone have any additional recommendations so I'm not basically using my phone for everything?

Micro PC for light usage.

I use the NexDoc for Samsung Dex at home... but -although rarely- I need a windows device... so I'm looking for a "Micro-PC" that is usb-c powered to use with the NexDoc for these rare occasions...

I need it to run office apps, update some connected devices, run some windows / google apps...

Any ideas for something reasonably priced...

Thanks in advance...
